- Les personnes issues de Jacob étaient au nombre de soixante-dix en tout. Joseph était alors en Égypte. (Ⅱ) - And all the souls that came out of the loins of Jacob were seventy souls: for Joseph was in Egypt already. - Les enfants d'Israël furent féconds et multiplièrent, ils s'accrurent et devinrent de plus en plus puissants. Et le pays en fut rempli. (Ⅱ) - And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them. Surrexit interea rex novus super Ægyptum, qui ignorabat Joseph.
- Il s'éleva sur l'Égypte un nouveau roi, qui n'avait point connu Joseph. (Ⅱ) - Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph. (Ⅲ) - ἀνέστη δὲ βασιλεὺς ἕτερος ἐπ' Αἴγυπτον ὃς οὐκ ἤ̨δει τὸν Ιωσηφ (Ⅳ) - 8 ׃1 ויקם מלך חדש על מצרים אשר לא ידע את יוסף (Ⅴ)

Et ait ad populum suum : Ecce, populus filiorum Israël multus, et fortior nobis est.
- Il dit à son peuple: Voilà les enfants d'Israël qui forment un peuple plus nombreux et plus puissant que nous. (Ⅱ) - And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we: (Ⅲ) - εἰ̃πεν δὲ τω̨̃ ἕθνει αὐτου̃ ἰδοὺ τὸ γένος τω̃ν υἱω̃ν Ισραηλ μέγα πλη̃θος καὶ ἰσχύει ὑπὲρ ἡμα̃ς (Ⅳ) - 9 ׃1 ויאמר אל עמו הנה עם בני ישראל רב ועצום ממנו (Ⅴ)

Venite, sapienter opprimamus eum, ne forte multiplicetur : et si ingruerit contra nos bellum, addatur inimicis nostris, expugnatisque nobis egrediatur de terra.
- Allons! montrons-nous habiles à son égard; empêchons qu'il ne s'accroisse, et que, s'il survient une guerre, il ne se joigne à nos ennemis, pour nous combattre et sortir ensuite du pays. (Ⅱ) - Come on, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there falleth out any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and so get them up out of the land. (Ⅲ) - δευ̃τε οὐ̃ν κατασοφισώμεθα αὐτούς μήποτε πληθυνθη̨̃ καί ἡνίκα ἂν συμβη̨̃ ἡμι̃ν πόλεμος προστεθήσονται καὶ οὑ̃τοι πρὸς τοὺς ὑπεναντίους καὶ ἐκπολεμήσαντες ἡμα̃ς ἐξελεύσονται ἐκ τη̃ς γη̃ς (Ⅳ) - 10 ׃1 הבה נתחכמה לו פן ירבה והיה כי תקראנה מלחמה ונוסף גם הוא על שנאינו ונלחם בנו ועלה מן הארץ (Ⅴ)

Præposuit itaque eis magistros operum, ut affligerent eos oneribus : ædificaveruntque urbes tabernaculorum Pharaoni, Phithom et Ramesses.
- Et l'on établit sur lui des chefs de corvées, afin de l'accabler de travaux pénibles. C'est ainsi qu'il bâtit les villes de Pithom et de Ramsès, pour servir de magasins à Pharaon. (Ⅱ) - Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Raamses. (Ⅲ) - καὶ ἐπέστησεν αὐτοι̃ς ἐπιστάτας τω̃ν ἔργων ἵνα κακώσωσιν αὐτοὺς ἐν τοι̃ς ἔργοις καὶ ὠ̨κοδόμησαν πόλεις ὀχυρὰς τω̨̃ Φαραω τήν τε Πιθωμ καὶ Ραμεσση καὶ Ων ἥ ἐστιν 'Ηλίου πόλις (Ⅳ) - 11 ׃1 וישימו עליו שרי מסים למען ענתו בסבלתם ויבן ערי מסכנות לפרעה את פתם ואת רעמסס (Ⅴ)

Quantoque opprimebant eos, tanto magis multiplicabantur, et crescebant :
- Mais plus on l'accablait, plus il multipliait et s'accroissait; et l'on prit en aversion les enfants d'Israël. (Ⅱ) - But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were grieved because of the children of Israel. (Ⅲ) - καθότι δὲ αὐτοὺς ἐταπείνουν τοσούτω̨ πλείους ἐγίνοντο καὶ ἴσχυον σφόδρα σφόδρα καὶ ἐβδελύσσοντο οἱ Αἰγύπτιοι ἀπὸ τω̃ν υἱω̃ν Ισραηλ (Ⅳ) - 12 ׃1 וכאשר יענו אתו כן ירבה וכן יפרץ ויקצו מפני בני ישראל (Ⅴ)

- Alors les Égyptiens réduisirent les enfants d'Israël à une dure servitude. (Ⅱ) - And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigor: (Ⅲ) - καὶ κατεδυνάστευον οἱ Αἰγύπτιοι τοὺς υἱοὺς Ισραηλ βία̨ (Ⅳ) - 13 ׃1 ויעבדו מצרים את בני ישראל בפרך (Ⅴ)

atque ad amaritudinem perducebant vitam eorum operibus duris luti et lateris, omnique famulatu, quo in terræ operibus premebantur.
- Ils leur rendirent la vie amère par de rudes travaux en argile et en briques, et par tous les ouvrages des champs: et c'était avec cruauté qu'ils leur imposaient toutes ces charges. (Ⅱ) - And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, in mortar, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field: all their service, wherein they made them serve, was with rigor. (Ⅲ) - καὶ κατωδύνων αὐτω̃ν τὴν ζωὴν ἐν τοι̃ς ἔργοις τοι̃ς σκληροι̃ς τω̨̃ πηλω̨̃ καὶ τη̨̃ πλινθεία̨ καὶ πα̃σι τοι̃ς ἔργοις τοι̃ς ἐν τοι̃ς πεδίοις κατὰ πάντα τὰ ἔργα ὡ̃ν κατεδουλου̃ντο αὐτοὺς μετὰ βίας (Ⅳ) - 14 ׃1 וימררו את חייהם בעבדה קשה בחמר ובלבנים ובכל עבדה בשדה את כל עבדתם אשר עבדו בהם בפרך (Ⅴ)

Dixit autem rex Ægypti obstetricibus Hebræorum, quarum una vocabatur Sephora, altera Phua,
- Le roi d'Égypte parla aussi aux sages-femmes des Hébreux, nommées l'une Schiphra, et l'autre Pua. (Ⅱ) - And the king of Egypt spake to the Hebrew midwives, of which the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah: (Ⅲ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν ὁ βασιλεὺς τω̃ν Αἰγυπτίων ται̃ς μαίαις τω̃ν Εβραίων τη̨̃ μια̨̃ αὐτω̃ν ἡ̨̃ ὄνομα Σεπφωρα καὶ τὸ ὄνομα τη̃ς δευτέρας Φουα (Ⅳ) - 15 ׃1 ויאמר מלך מצרים למילדת העברית אשר שם האחת שפרה ושם השנית פועה (Ⅴ)

præcipiens eis : Quando obstetricabitis Hebræas, et partus tempus advenerit : si masculus fuerit, interficite eum : si femina, reservate.
- Il leur dit: Quand vous accoucherez les femmes des Hébreux et que vous les verrez sur les sièges, si c'est un garçon, faites-le mourir; si c'est une fille, laissez-la vivre. (Ⅱ) - And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live. (Ⅲ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν ὅταν μαιου̃σθε τὰς Εβραίας καὶ ὠ̃σιν πρὸς τω̨̃ τίκτειν ἐὰν μὲν ἄρσεν ἠ̨̃ ἀποκτείνατε αὐτό ἐὰν δὲ θη̃λυ περιποιει̃σθε αὐτό (Ⅳ) - 16 ׃1 ויאמר בילדכן את העבריות וראיתן על האבנים אם בן הוא והמתן אתו ואם בת היא וחיה (Ⅴ)

Timuerunt autem obstetrices Deum, et non fecerunt juxta præceptum regis Ægypti, sed conservabant mares.
- Mais les sages-femmes craignirent Dieu, et ne firent point ce que leur avait dit le roi d'Égypte; elles laissèrent vivre les enfants. (Ⅱ) - But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive. (Ⅲ) - ἐφοβήθησαν δὲ αἱ μαι̃αι τὸν θεὸν καὶ οὐκ ἐποίησαν καθότι συνέταξεν αὐται̃ς ὁ βασιλεὺς Αἰγύπτου καὶ ἐζωογόνουν τὰ ἄρσενα (Ⅳ) - 17 ׃1 ותיראן המילדת את האלהים ולא עשו כאשר דבר אליהן מלך מצרים ותחיין את הילדים (Ⅴ)

Quibus ad se accersitis, rex ait : Quidnam est hoc quod facere voluistis, ut pueros servaretis ?
- Le roi d'Égypte appela les sages-femmes, et leur dit: Pourquoi avez-vous agi ainsi, et avez-vous laissé vivre les enfants? (Ⅱ) - And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said unto them, Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the men children alive? (Ⅲ) - ἐκάλεσεν δὲ ὁ βασιλεὺς Αἰγύπτου τὰς μαίας καὶ εἰ̃πεν αὐται̃ς τί ὅτι ἐποιήσατε τὸ πρα̃γμα του̃το καὶ ἐζωογονει̃τε τὰ ἄρσενα (Ⅳ) - 18 ׃1 ויקרא מלך מצרים למילדת ויאמר להן מדוע עשיתן הדבר הזה ותחיין את הילדים (Ⅴ)

Quæ responderunt : Non sunt Hebreæ sicut ægyptiæ mulieres : ipsæ enim obstetricandi habent scientiam, et priusquam veniamus ad eas, pariunt.
- Les sages-femmes répondirent à Pharaon: C'est que les femmes des Hébreux ne sont pas comme les Égyptiennes; elles sont vigoureuses et elles accouchent avant l'arrivée de la sage-femme. (Ⅱ) - And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come in unto them. (Ⅲ) - εἰ̃παν δὲ αἱ μαι̃αι τω̨̃ Φαραω οὐχ ὡς γυναι̃κες Αἰγύπτου αἱ Εβραι̃αι τίκτουσιν γὰρ πρὶν ἢ εἰσελθει̃ν πρὸς αὐτὰς τὰς μαίας καὶ ἔτικτον (Ⅳ) - 19 ׃1 ותאמרן המילדת אל פרעה כי לא כנשים המצרית העברית כי חיות הנה בטרם תבוא אלהן המילדת וילדו (Ⅴ)

Bene ergo fecit Deus obstetricibus : et crevit populus, confortatusque est nimis.
- Dieu fit du bien aux sages-femmes; et le peuple multiplia et devint très nombreux. (Ⅱ) - Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty. (Ⅲ) - εὐ̃ δὲ ἐποίει ὁ θεὸς ται̃ς μαίαις καὶ ἐπλήθυνεν ὁ λαὸς καὶ ἴσχυεν σφόδρα (Ⅳ) - 20 ׃1 וייטב אלהים למילדת וירב העם ויעצמו מאד (Ⅴ)

Et quia timuerunt obstetrices Deum, ædificavit eis domos.
- Parce que les sages-femmes avaient eu la crainte de Dieu, Dieu fit prospérer leurs maisons. (Ⅱ) - And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses. (Ⅲ) - ἐπειδὴ ἐφοβου̃ντο αἱ μαι̃αι τὸν θεόν ἐποίησαν ἑαυται̃ς οἰκίας (Ⅳ) - 21 ׃1 ויהי כי יראו המילדת את האלהים ויעש להם בתים (Ⅴ)

Præcepit ergo Pharao omni populo suo, dicens : Quidquid masculini sexus natum fuerit, in flumen projicite : quidquid feminini, reservate.
- Alors Pharaon donna cet ordre à tout son peuple: Vous jetterez dans le fleuve tout garçon qui naîtra, et vous laisserez vivre toutes les filles. (Ⅱ) - And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive. (Ⅲ) - συνέταξεν δὲ Φαραω παντὶ τω̨̃ λαω̨̃ αὐτου̃ λέγων πα̃ν ἄρσεν ὃ ἐὰν τεχθη̨̃ τοι̃ς Εβραίοις εἰς τὸν ποταμὸν ῥίψατε καὶ πα̃ν θη̃λυ ζωογονει̃τε αὐτό (Ⅳ) - 22 ׃1 ויצו פרעה לכל עמו לאמר כל הבן הילוד היארה תשליכהו וכל הבת תחיון ס (Ⅴ)
