Prière d'un malheureux, lorsqu'il est abattu et qu'il répand sa plainte devant l'Éternel.

Ne me cache pas ta face au jour de ma détresse! Incline vers moi ton oreille quand je crie! Hâte-toi de m'exaucer!
- Hide not thy face from me in the day when I am in trouble; incline thine ear unto me: in the day when I call answer me speedily. (Ⅱ) - μὴ ἀποστρέψη̨ς τὸ πρόσωπόν σου ἀπ' ἐμου̃ ἐν ἡ̨̃ ἂν ἡμέρα̨ θλίβωμαι κλι̃νον τὸ οὐ̃ς σου πρός με ἐν ἡ̨̃ ἂν ἡμέρα̨ ἐπικαλέσωμαί σε ταχὺ εἰσάκουσόν μου (Ⅲ) - Non avertas faciem tuam a me :/ in quacumque die tribulor, inclina ad me aurem tuam ;/ in quacumque die invocavero te, velociter exaudi me./ (Ⅳ) - 3 ׃102 אל תסתר פניך ממני ביום צר לי הטה אלי אזנך ביום אקרא מהר ענני (Ⅴ)

Car mes jours s'évanouissent en fumée, Et mes os sont enflammés comme un tison.
- For my days are consumed like smoke, and my bones are burned as an hearth. (Ⅱ) - ὅτι ἐξέλιπον ὡσεὶ καπνὸς αἱ ἡμέραι μου καὶ τὰ ὀστα̃ μου ὡσεὶ φρύγιον συνεφρύγησαν (Ⅲ) - Quia defecerunt sicut fumus dies mei,/ et ossa mea sicut cremium aruerunt./ (Ⅳ) - 4 ׃102 כי כלו בעשן ימי ועצמותי כמו קד נחרו (Ⅴ)

Mon coeur est frappé et se dessèche comme l'herbe; J'oublie même de manger mon pain.
- My heart is smitten, and withered like grass; so that I forget to eat my bread. (Ⅱ) - ἐπλήγη ὡσεὶ χόρτος καὶ ἐξηράνθη ἡ καρδία μου ὅτι ἐπελαθόμην του̃ φαγει̃ν τὸν ἄρτον μου (Ⅲ) - Percussus sum ut fœnum, et aruit cor meum,/ quia oblitus sum comedere panem meum./ (Ⅳ) - 5 ׃102 הוכה כעשב ויבש לבי כי שכחתי מאכל לחמי (Ⅴ)

- By reason of the voice of my groaning my bones cleave to my skin. (Ⅱ) - ἀπὸ φωνη̃ς του̃ στεναγμου̃ μου ἐκολλήθη τὸ ὀστου̃ν μου τη̨̃ σαρκί μου (Ⅲ) - A voce gemitus mei/ adhæsit os meum carni meæ./ (Ⅳ) - 6 ׃102 מקול אנחתי דבקה עצמי לבשרי (Ⅴ)

Je ressemble au pélican du désert, Je suis comme le chat-huant des ruines;
- I am like a pelican of the wilderness: I am like an owl of the desert. (Ⅱ) - ὡμοιώθην πελεκα̃νι ἐρημικω̨̃ ἐγενήθην ὡσεὶ νυκτικόραξ ἐν οἰκοπέδω̨ (Ⅲ) - Similis factus sum pellicano solitudinis ;/ factus sum sicut nycticorax in domicilio./ (Ⅳ) - 7 ׃102 דמיתי לקאת מדבר הייתי ככוס חרבות (Ⅴ)

Je n'ai plus de sommeil, et je suis Comme l'oiseau solitaire sur un toit.
- I watch, and am as a sparrow alone upon the house top. (Ⅱ) - ἠγρύπνησα καὶ ἐγενήθην ὡσεὶ στρουθίον μονάζον ἐπὶ δώματι (Ⅲ) - Vigilavi, et factus sum sicut passer solitarius in tecto./ (Ⅳ) - 8 ׃102 שקדתי ואהיה כצפור בודד על גג (Ⅴ)

Chaque jour mes ennemis m'outragent, Et c'est par moi que jurent mes adversaires en fureur.
- Mine enemies reproach me all the day; and they that are mad against me are sworn against me. (Ⅱ) - ὅλην τὴν ἡμέραν ὠνείδιζόν με οἱ ἐχθροί μου καὶ οἱ ἐπαινου̃ντές με κατ' ἐμου̃ ὤμνυον (Ⅲ) - Tota die exprobrabant mihi inimici mei,/ et qui laudabant me adversum me jurabant :/ (Ⅳ) - 9 ׃102 כל היום חרפוני אויבי מהוללי בי נשבעו (Ⅴ)

A cause de ta colère et de ta fureur; Car tu m'as soulevé et jeté au loin.

Mais toi, Éternel! tu règnes à perpétuité, Et ta mémoire dure de génération en génération.
- But thou, O LORD, shall endure for ever; and thy remembrance unto all generations. Tu te lèveras, tu auras pitié de Sion; Car le temps d'avoir pitié d'elle, Le temps fixé est à son terme;
- Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to favour her, yea, the set time, is come. (Ⅱ) - σὺ ἀναστὰς οἰκτιρήσεις τὴν Σιων ὅτι καιρὸς του̃ οἰκτιρη̃σαι αὐτήν ὅτι ἥκει καιρός (Ⅲ) - Tu exsurgens misereberis Sion,/ quia tempus miserendi ejus, quia venit tempus :/ (Ⅳ) - 14 ׃102 אתה תקום תרחם ציון כי עת לחננה כי בא מועד (Ⅴ)

Car tes serviteurs en aiment les pierres, Ils en chérissent la poussière.
- For thy servants take pleasure in her stones, and favour the dust thereof. (Ⅱ) - ὅτι εὐδόκησαν οἱ δου̃λοί σου τοὺς λίθους αὐτη̃ς καὶ τὸν χου̃ν αὐτη̃ς οἰκτιρήσουσιν (Ⅲ) - quoniam placuerunt servis tuis lapides ejus,/ et terræ ejus miserebuntur./ (Ⅳ) - 15 ׃102 כי רצו עבדיך את אבניה ואת עפרה יחננו (Ⅴ)

Alors les nations craindront le nom de l'Éternel, Et tous les rois de la terre ta gloire.
- So the heathen shall fear the name of the LORD, and all the kings of the earth thy glory. (Ⅱ) - καὶ φοβηθήσονται τὰ ἔθνη τὸ ὄνομα κυρίου καὶ πάντες οἱ βασιλει̃ς τη̃ς γη̃ς τὴν δόξαν σου (Ⅲ) - Et timebunt gentes nomen tuum, Domine,/ et omnes reges terræ gloriam tuam :/ (Ⅳ) - 16 ׃102 וייראו גוים את שם יהוה וכל מלכי הארץ את כבודך (Ⅴ)

Oui, l'Éternel rebâtira Sion, Il se montrera dans sa gloire.
- When the LORD shall build up Zion, he shall appear in his glory. (Ⅱ) - ὅτι οἰκοδομήσει κύριος τὴν Σιων καὶ ὀφθήσεται ἐν τη̨̃ δόξη̨ αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ) - quia ædificavit Dominus Sion,/ et videbitur in gloria sua./ (Ⅳ) - 17 ׃102 כי בנה יהוה ציון נראה בכבודו (Ⅴ)

Il est attentif à la prière du misérable, Il ne dédaigne pas sa prière.
- He will regard the prayer of the destitute, and not despise their prayer. (Ⅱ) - ἐπέβλεψεν ἐπὶ τὴν προσευχὴν τω̃ν ταπεινω̃ν καὶ οὐκ ἐξουδένωσεν τὴν δέησιν αὐτω̃ν (Ⅲ) - Respexit in orationem humilium/ et non sprevit precem eorum./ (Ⅳ) - 18 ׃102 פנה אל תפלת הערער ולא בזה את תפלתם (Ⅴ)

Que cela soit écrit pour la génération future, Et que le peuple qui sera créé célèbre l'Éternel!
- This shall be written for the generation to come: and the people which shall be created shall praise the LORD. (Ⅱ) - γραφήτω αὕτη εἰς γενεὰν ἑτέραν καὶ λαὸς ὁ κτιζόμενος αἰνέσει τὸν κύριον (Ⅲ) - Scribantur hæc in generatione altera,/ et populus qui creabitur laudabit Dominum./ (Ⅳ) - 19 ׃102 תכתב זאת לדור אחרון ועם נברא יהלל יה (Ⅴ)

Car il regarde du lieu élevé de sa sainteté; Du haut des cieux l'Éternel regarde sur la terre,
- For he hath looked down from the height of his sanctuary; from heaven did the LORD behold the earth; (Ⅱ) - ὅτι ἐξέκυψεν ἐξ ὕψους ἁγίου αὐτου̃ κύριος ἐξ οὐρανου̃ ἐπὶ τὴν γη̃ν ἐπέβλεψεν (Ⅲ) - Quia prospexit de excelso sancto suo ;/ Dominus de cælo in terram aspexit :/ (Ⅳ) - 20 ׃102 כי השקיף ממרום קדשו יהוה משמים אל ארץ הביט (Ⅴ)

- To hear the groaning of the prisoner; to loose those that are appointed to death; (Ⅱ) - του̃ ἀκου̃σαι τὸν στεναγμὸν τω̃ν πεπεδημένων του̃ λυ̃σαι τοὺς υἱοὺς τω̃ν τεθανατωμένων (Ⅲ) - ut audiret gemitus compeditorum ;/ ut solveret filios interemptorum :/ (Ⅳ) - 21 ׃102 לשמע אנקת אסיר לפתח בני תמותה (Ⅴ)

Afin qu'ils publient dans Sion le nom de l'Éternel, Et ses louanges dans Jérusalem,
- To declare the name of the LORD in Zion, and his praise in Jerusalem; (Ⅱ) - του̃ ἀναγγει̃λαι ἐν Σιων τὸ ὄνομα κυρίου καὶ τὴν αἴνεσιν αὐτου̃ ἐν Ιερουσαλημ (Ⅲ) - ut annuntient in Sion nomen Domini,/ et laudem ejus in Jerusalem :/ (Ⅳ) - 22 ׃102 לספר בציון שם יהוה ותהלתו בירושלם (Ⅴ)

Quand tous les peuples s'assembleront, Et tous les royaumes, pour servir l'Éternel.
- When the people are gathered together, and the kingdoms, to serve the LORD. (Ⅱ) - ἐν τω̨̃ συναχθη̃ναι λαοὺς ἐπὶ τὸ αὐτὸ καὶ βασιλείας του̃ δουλεύειν τω̨̃ κυρίω̨ (Ⅲ) - in conveniendo populos in unum, et reges,/ ut serviant Domino./ (Ⅳ) - 23 ׃102 בהקבץ עמים יחדו וממלכות לעבד את יהוה (Ⅴ)

- I said, O my God, take me not away in the midst of my days: thy years are throughout all generations. (Ⅱ) - μὴ ἀναγάγη̨ς με ἐν ἡμίσει ἡμερω̃ν μου ἐν γενεα̨̃ γενεω̃ν τὰ ἔτη σου (Ⅲ) - ne revoces me in dimidio dierum meorum,/ in generationem et generationem anni tui./ (Ⅳ) - 25 ׃102 אמר אלי אל תעלני בחצי ימי בדור דורים שנותיך (Ⅴ)

Tu as anciennement fondé la terre, Et les cieux sont l'ouvrage de tes mains.
- Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of thy hands. (Ⅱ) - κατ' ἀρχὰς σύ κύριε τὴν γη̃ν ἐθεμελίωσας καὶ ἔργα τω̃ν χειρω̃ν σού εἰσιν οἱ οὐρανοί (Ⅲ) - Initio tu, Domine, terram fundasti,/ et opera manuum tuarum sunt cæli./ (Ⅳ) - 26 ׃102 לפנים הארץ יסדת ומעשה ידיך שמים (Ⅴ)

Ils périront, mais tu subsisteras; Ils s'useront tous comme un vêtement; Tu les changeras comme un habit, et ils seront changés.
- They shall perish, but thou shalt endure: yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment; as a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed: (Ⅱ) - αὐτοὶ ἀπολου̃νται σὺ δὲ διαμενει̃ς καὶ πάντες ὡς ἱμάτιον παλαιωθήσονται καὶ ὡσεὶ περιβόλαιον ἀλλάξεις αὐτούς καὶ ἀλλαγήσονται (Ⅲ) - Ipsi peribunt, tu autem permanes ;/ et omnes sicut vestimentum veterascent./ Et sicut opertorium mutabis eos, et mutabuntur ;/ (Ⅳ) - 27 ׃102 המה יאבדו ואתה תעמד וכלם כבגד יבלו כלבוש תחליפם ויחלפו (Ⅴ)

Mais toi, tu restes le même, Et tes années ne finiront point.
- But thou art the same, and thy years shall have no end. (Ⅱ) - σὺ δὲ ὁ αὐτὸς εἰ̃ καὶ τὰ ἔτη σου οὐκ ἐκλείψουσιν (Ⅲ) - tu autem idem ipse es, et anni tui non deficient./ (Ⅳ) - 28 ׃102 ואתה הוא ושנותיך לא יתמו (Ⅴ)

Les fils de tes serviteurs habiteront leur pays, Et leur postérité s'affermira devant toi.
- The children of thy servants shall continue, and their seed shall be established before thee. (Ⅱ) - οἱ υἱοὶ τω̃ν δούλων σου κατασκηνώσουσιν καὶ τὸ σπέρμα αὐτω̃ν εἰς τὸν αἰω̃να κατευθυνθήσεται (Ⅲ) - Filii servorum tuorum habitabunt,/ et semen eorum in sæculum dirigetur.] (Ⅳ) - 29 ׃102 בני עבדיך ישכונו וזרעם לפניך יכון (Ⅴ)
