O lord, thou hast searched me, and known me.

Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.
- Tu sais quand je m'assieds et quand je me lève, Tu pénètres de loin ma pensée; (Ⅱ) - σὺ ἔγνως τὴν καθέδραν μου καὶ τὴν ἔγερσίν μου σὺ συνη̃κας τοὺς διαλογισμούς μου ἀπὸ μακρόθεν (Ⅲ) - tu cognovisti sessionem meam et resurrectionem meam./ (Ⅳ) - 2 ׃139 אתה ידעת שבתי וקומי בנתה לרעי מרחוק (Ⅴ)

Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.
- Tu sais quand je marche et quand je me couche, Et tu pénètres toutes mes voies. (Ⅱ) - τὴν τρίβον μου καὶ τὴν σχοι̃νόν μου σὺ ἐξιχνίασας καὶ πάσας τὰς ὁδούς μου προει̃δες (Ⅲ) - Intellexisti cogitationes meas de longe ;/ semitam meam et funiculum meum investigasti :/ (Ⅳ) - 3 ׃139 ארחי ורבעי זרית וכל דרכי הסכנתה (Ⅴ)

For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether.
- Car la parole n'est pas sur ma langue, Que déjà, ô Éternel! tu la connais entièrement. (Ⅱ) - ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν λόγος ἐν γλώσση̨ μου (Ⅲ) - et omnes vias meas prævidisti,/ quia non est sermo in lingua mea./ (Ⅳ) - 4 ׃139 כי אין מלה בלשוני הן יהוה ידעת כלה (Ⅴ)

Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.
- Tu m'entoures par derrière et par devant, Et tu mets ta main sur moi. (Ⅱ) - ἰδού κύριε σὺ ἔγνως πάντα τὰ ἔσχατα καὶ τὰ ἀρχαι̃α σὺ ἔπλασάς με καὶ ἔθηκας ἐπ' ἐμὲ τὴν χει̃ρά σου (Ⅲ) - Ecce, Domine, tu cognovisti omnia,/ novissima et antiqua./ Tu formasti me, et posuisti super me manum tuam./ (Ⅳ) - 5 ׃139 אחור וקדם צרתני ותשת עלי כפכה (Ⅴ)

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.
- Une science aussi merveilleuse est au-dessus de ma portée, Elle est trop élevée pour que je puisse la saisir. (Ⅱ) - ἐθαυμαστώθη ἡ γνω̃σίς σου ἐξ ἐμου̃ ἐκραταιώθη οὐ μὴ δύνωμαι πρὸς αὐτήν (Ⅲ) - Mirabilis facta est scientia tua ex me ;/ confortata est, et non potero ad eam./ (Ⅳ) - 6 ׃139 *פלאיה **פליאה דעת ממני נשגבה לא אוכל לה (Ⅴ)

Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
- Où irais-je loin de ton esprit, Et où fuirais-je loin de ta face? (Ⅱ) - που̃ πορευθω̃ ἀπὸ του̃ πνεύματός σου καὶ ἀπὸ του̃ προσώπου σου που̃ φύγω (Ⅲ) - Quo ibo a spiritu tuo ?/ et quo a facie tua fugiam ?/ (Ⅳ) - 7 ׃139 אנה אלך מרוחך ואנה מפניך אברח (Ⅴ)

If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.
- Si je monte aux cieux, tu y es; Si je me couche au séjour des morts, t'y voilà. (Ⅱ) - ἐὰν ἀναβω̃ εἰς τὸν οὐρανόν σὺ εἰ̃ ἐκει̃ ἐὰν καταβω̃ εἰς τὸν ἅ̨δην πάρει (Ⅲ) - Si ascendero in cælum, tu illic es ;/ si descendero in infernum, ades./ (Ⅳ) - 8 ׃139 אם אסק שמים שם אתה ואציעה שאול הנך (Ⅴ)

If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;
- Si je prends les ailes de l'aurore, Et que j'aille habiter à l'extrémité de la mer, (Ⅱ) - ἐὰν ἀναλάβοιμι τὰς πτέρυγάς μου κατ' ὄρθρον καὶ κατασκηνώσω εἰς τὰ ἔσχατα τη̃ς θαλάσσης (Ⅲ) - Si sumpsero pennas meas diluculo,/ et habitavero in extremis maris,/ (Ⅳ) - 9 ׃139 אשא כנפי שחר אשכנה באחרית ים (Ⅴ)

Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.
- Là aussi ta main me conduira, Et ta droite me saisira. (Ⅱ) - καὶ γὰρ ἐκει̃ ἡ χείρ σου ὁδηγήσει με καὶ καθέξει με ἡ δεξιά σου (Ⅲ) - etenim illuc manus tua deducet me,/ et tenebit me dextera tua./ (Ⅳ) - 10 ׃139 גם שם ידך תנחני ותאחזני ימינך (Ⅴ)

If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.
- Si je dis: Au moins les ténèbres me couvriront, La nuit devient lumière autour de moi; (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃πα ἄρα σκότος καταπατήσει με καὶ νὺξ φωτισμὸς ἐν τη̨̃ τρυφη̨̃ μου (Ⅲ) - Et dixi : Forsitan tenebræ conculcabunt me ;/ et nox illuminatio mea in deliciis meis./ (Ⅳ) - 11 ׃139 ואמר אך חשך ישופני ולילה אור בעדני (Ⅴ)

Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.
- Même les ténèbres ne sont pas obscures pour toi, La nuit brille comme le jour, Et les ténèbres comme la lumière. (Ⅱ) - ὅτι σκότος οὐ σκοτισθήσεται ἀπὸ σου̃ καὶ νὺξ ὡς ἡμέρα φωτισθήσεται ὡς τὸ σκότος αὐτη̃ς οὕτως καὶ τὸ φω̃ς αὐτη̃ς (Ⅲ) - Quia tenebræ non obscurabuntur a te,/ et nox sicut dies illuminabitur :/ sicut tenebræ ejus, ita et lumen ejus./ (Ⅳ) - 12 ׃139 גם חשך לא יחשיך ממך ולילה כיום יאיר כחשיכה כאורה (Ⅴ)

For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb.
- C'est toi qui as formé mes reins, Qui m'as tissé dans le sein de ma mère. (Ⅱ) - ὅτι σὺ ἐκτήσω τοὺς νεφρούς μου κύριε ἀντελάβου μου ἐκ γαστρὸς μητρός μου (Ⅲ) - Quia tu possedisti renes meos ;/ suscepisti me de utero matris meæ./ (Ⅳ) - 13 ׃139 כי אתה קנית כליתי תסכני בבטן אמי (Ⅴ)

I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
- Je te loue de ce que je suis une créature si merveilleuse. Tes oeuvres sont admirables, Et mon âme le reconnaît bien. (Ⅱ) - ἐξομολογήσομαί σοι ὅτι φοβερω̃ς ἐθαυμαστώθην θαυμάσια τὰ ἔργα σου καὶ ἡ ψυχή μου γινώσκει σφόδρα (Ⅲ) - Confitebor tibi, quia terribiliter magnificatus es ;/ mirabilia opera tua, et anima mea cognoscit nimis./ (Ⅳ) - 14 ׃139 אודך על כי נוראות נפליתי נפלאים מעשיך ונפשי ידעת מאד (Ⅴ)

My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
- Mon corps n'était point caché devant toi, Lorsque j'ai été fait dans un lieu secret, Tissé dans les profondeurs de la terre. (Ⅱ) - οὐκ ἐκρύβη τὸ ὀστου̃ν μου ἀπὸ σου̃ ὃ ἐποίησας ἐν κρυφη̨̃ καὶ ἡ ὑπόστασίς μου ἐν τοι̃ς κατωτάτοις τη̃ς γη̃ς (Ⅲ) - Non est occultatum os meum a te, quod fecisti in occulto ;/ et substantia mea in inferioribus terræ./ (Ⅳ) - 15 ׃139 לא נכחד עצמי ממך אשר עשיתי בסתר רקמתי בתחתיות ארץ (Ⅴ)

Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.
- Quand je n'étais qu'une masse informe, tes yeux me voyaient; Et sur ton livre étaient tous inscrits Les jours qui m'étaient destinés, Avant qu'aucun d'eux existât. (Ⅱ) - τὸ ἀκατέργαστόν μου εἴδοσαν οἱ ὀφθαλμοί σου καὶ ἐπὶ τὸ βιβλίον σου πάντες γραφήσονται ἡμέρας πλασθήσονται καὶ οὐθεὶς ἐν αὐτοι̃ς (Ⅲ) - Imperfectum meum viderunt oculi tui,/ et in libro tuo omnes scribentur./ Dies formabuntur, et nemo in eis./ (Ⅳ) - 16 ׃139 גלמי ראו עיניך ועל ספרך כלם יכתבו ימים יצרו *ולא **ולו אחד בהם (Ⅴ)

How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!
- Que tes pensées, ô Dieu, me semblent impénétrables! Que le nombre en est grand! (Ⅱ) - ἐμοὶ δὲ λίαν ἐτιμήθησαν οἱ φίλοι σου ὁ θεός λίαν ἐκραταιώθησαν αἱ ἀρχαὶ αὐτω̃ν (Ⅲ) - Mihi autem nimis honorificati sunt amici tui, Deus ;/ nimis confortatus est principatus eorum./ (Ⅳ) - 17 ׃139 ולי מה יקרו רעיך אל מה עצמו ראשיהם (Ⅴ)

If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.
- Si je les compte, elles sont plus nombreuses que les grains de sable. Je m'éveille, et je suis encore avec toi. (Ⅱ) - ἐξαριθμήσομαι αὐτούς καὶ ὑπὲρ ἄμμον πληθυνθήσονται ἐξηγέρθην καὶ ἔτι εἰμὶ μετὰ σου̃ (Ⅲ) - Dinumerabo eos, et super arenam multiplicabuntur./ Exsurrexi, et adhuc sum tecum./ (Ⅳ) - 18 ׃139 אספרם מחול ירבון הקיצתי ועודי עמך (Ⅴ)

Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: depart from me therefore, ye bloody men.
- O Dieu, puisses-tu faire mourir le méchant! Hommes de sang, éloignez-vous de moi! (Ⅱ) - ἐὰν ἀποκτείνη̨ς ἁμαρτωλούς ὁ θεός ἄνδρες αἱμάτων ἐκκλίνατε ἀπ' ἐμου̃ (Ⅲ) - Si occideris, Deus, peccatores,/ viri sanguinum, declinate a me :/ (Ⅳ) - 19 ׃139 אם תקטל אלוה רשע ואנשי דמים סורו מני (Ⅴ)

For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain.
- Ils parlent de toi d'une manière criminelle, Ils prennent ton nom pour mentir, eux, tes ennemis! (Ⅱ) - ὅτι ἐρει̃ς εἰς διαλογισμόν λήμψονται εἰς ματαιότητα τὰς πόλεις σου (Ⅲ) - quia dicitis in cogitatione :/ Accipient in vanitate civitates tuas./ (Ⅳ) - 20 ׃139 אשר יאמרך למזמה נשא לשוא עריך (Ⅴ)

Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee?
- Éternel, n'aurais-je pas de la haine pour ceux qui te haïssent, Du dégoût pour ceux qui s'élèvent contre toi? (Ⅱ) - οὐχὶ τοὺς μισου̃ντάς σε κύριε ἐμίσησα καὶ ἐπὶ τοι̃ς ἐχθροι̃ς σου ἐξετηκόμην (Ⅲ) - Nonne qui oderunt te, Domine, oderam,/ et super inimicos tuos tabescebam ?/ (Ⅳ) - 21 ׃139 הלוא משנאיך יהוה אשנא ובתקוממיך אתקוטט (Ⅴ)

I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies.

Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
- Sonde-moi, ô Dieu, et connais mon coeur! Éprouve-moi, et connais mes pensées! (Ⅱ) - δοκίμασόν με ὁ θεός καὶ γνω̃θι τὴν καρδίαν μου ἔτασόν με καὶ γνω̃θι τὰς τρίβους μου (Ⅲ) - Proba me, Deus, et scito cor meum ;/ interroga me, et cognosce semitas meas./ (Ⅳ) - 23 ׃139 חקרני אל ודע לבבי בחנני ודע שרעפי (Ⅴ)

And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
- Regarde si je suis sur une mauvaise voie, Et conduis-moi sur la voie de l'éternité! (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἰδὲ εἰ ὁδὸς ἀνομίας ἐν ἐμοί καὶ ὁδήγησόν με ἐν ὁδω̨̃ αἰωνία̨ (Ⅲ) - Et vide si via iniquitatis in me est,/ et deduc me in via æterna.] (Ⅳ) - 24 ׃139 וראה אם דרך עצב בי ונחני בדרך עולם (Ⅴ)
