Now the Philistines gathered together their armies to battle, and were gathered together at Shochoh, which belongeth to Judah, and pitched between Shochoh and Azekah, in Ephesdammim.
- Les Philistins réunirent leurs armées pour faire la guerre, et ils se rassemblèrent à Soco, qui appartient à Juda; ils campèrent entre Soco et Azéka, à Éphès Dammim. (Ⅱ) - καὶ συνάγουσιν ἀλλόφυλοι τὰς παρεμβολὰς αὐτω̃ν εἰς πόλεμον καὶ συνάγονται εἰς Σοκχωθ τη̃ς Ιουδαίας καὶ παρεμβάλλουσιν ἀνὰ μέσον Σοκχωθ καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον Αζηκα ἐν Εφερμεμ (Ⅲ) - Congregantes autem Philisthiim agmina sua in prælium, convenerunt in Socho Judæ : et castrametati sunt inter Socho et Azeca in finibus Dommim. And Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together, and pitched by the valley of Elah, and set the battle in array against the Philistines.
- Saül et les hommes d'Israël se rassemblèrent aussi; ils campèrent dans la vallée des térébinthes, et ils se mirent en ordre de bataille contre les Philistins. (Ⅱ) - καὶ Σαουλ καὶ οἱ ἄνδρες Ισραηλ συνάγονται καὶ παρεμβάλλουσιν ἐν τη̨̃ κοιλάδι αὐτοὶ παρατάσσονται εἰς πόλεμον ἐξ ἐναντίας ἀλλοφύλων (Ⅲ) - Porro Saul et filii Israël congregati venerunt in Vallem terebinthi, et direxerunt aciem ad pugnandum contra Philisthiim. (Ⅳ) - 2 ׃17 ושאול ואיש ישראל נאספו ויחנו בעמק האלה ויערכו מלחמה לקראת פלשתים (Ⅴ)

And the Philistines stood on a mountain on the one side, and Israel stood on a mountain on the other side: and there was a valley between them.
- Les Philistins étaient vers la montagne d'un côté, et Israël était vers la montagne de l'autre côté: la vallée les séparait. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἀλλόφυλοι ἵστανται ἐπὶ του̃ ὄρους ἐνταυ̃θα καὶ Ισραηλ ἵσταται ἐπὶ του̃ ὄρους ἐνταυ̃θα καὶ ὁ αὐλὼν ἀνὰ μέσον αὐτω̃ν (Ⅲ) - Et Philisthiim stabant super montem ex parte hac, et Israël stabat supra montem ex altera parte : vallisque erat inter eos. (Ⅳ) - 3 ׃17 ופלשתים עמדים אל ההר מזה וישראל עמדים אל ההר מזה והגיא ביניהם (Ⅴ)

And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.
- Un homme sortit alors du camp des Philistins et s'avança entre les deux armées. Il se nommait Goliath, il était de Gath, et il avait une taille de six coudées et un empan. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐξη̃λθεν ἀνὴρ δυνατὸς ἐκ τη̃ς παρατάξεως τω̃ν ἀλλοφύλων Γολιαθ ὄνομα αὐτω̨̃ ἐκ Γεθ ὕψος αὐτου̃ τεσσάρων πήχεων καὶ σπιθαμη̃ς (Ⅲ) - Et egressus est vir spurius de castris Philisthinorum nomine Goliath, de Geth, altitudinis sex cubitorum et palmi : (Ⅳ) - 4 ׃17 ויצא איש הבנים ממחנות פלשתים גלית שמו מגת גבהו שש אמות וזרת (Ⅴ)

And he had an helmet of brass upon his head, and he was armed with a coat of mail; and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of brass.
- Sur sa tête était un casque d'airain, et il portait une cuirasse à écailles du poids de cinq mille sicles d'airain. (Ⅱ) - καὶ περικεφαλαία ἐπὶ τη̃ς κεφαλη̃ς αὐτου̃ καὶ θώρακα ἁλυσιδωτὸν αὐτὸς ἐνδεδυκώς καὶ ὁ σταθμὸς του̃ θώρακος αὐτου̃ πέντε χιλιάδες σίκλων χαλκου̃ καὶ σιδήρου (Ⅲ) - et cassis ærea super caput ejus, et lorica squamata induebatur. Porro pondus loricæ ejus, quinque millia siclorum æris erat : (Ⅳ) - 5 ׃17 וכובע נחשת על ראשו ושריון קשקשים הוא לבוש ומשקל השריון חמשת אלפים שקלים נחשת (Ⅴ)

And he had greaves of brass upon his legs, and a target of brass between his shoulders.
- Il avait aux jambes une armure d'airain, et un javelot d'airain entre les épaules. (Ⅱ) - καὶ κνημι̃δες χαλκαι̃ ἐπάνω τω̃ν σκελω̃ν αὐτου̃ καὶ ἀσπὶς χαλκη̃ ἀνὰ μέσον τω̃ν ὤμων αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ) - et ocreas æreas habebat in cruribus, et clypeus æreus tegebat humeros ejus. (Ⅳ) - 6 ׃17 ומצחת נחשת על רגליו וכידון נחשת בין כתפיו (Ⅴ)

And the staff of his spear was like a weaver's beam; and his spear's head weighed six hundred shekels of iron: and one bearing a shield went before him.
- Le bois de sa lance était comme une ensouple de tisserand, et la lance pesait six cents sicles de fer. Celui qui portait son bouclier marchait devant lui. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ὁ κοντὸς του̃ δόρατος αὐτου̃ ὡσεὶ μέσακλον ὑφαινόντων καὶ ἡ λόγχη αὐτου̃ ἑξακοσίων σίκλων σιδήρου καὶ ὁ αἴρων τὰ ὅπλα αὐτου̃ προεπορεύετο αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ) - Hastile autem hastæ ejus erat quasi liciatorium texentium : ipsum autem ferrum hastæ ejus sexcentos siclos habebat ferri : et armiger ejus antecedebat eum. (Ⅳ) - 7 ׃17 *וחץ **ועץ חניתו כמנור ארגים ולהבת חניתו שש מאות שקלים ברזל ונשא הצנה הלך לפניו (Ⅴ)

And he stood and cried unto the armies of Israel, and said unto them, Why are ye come out to set your battle in array? am not I a Philistine, and ye servants to Saul? choose you a man for you, and let him come down to me.
- Le Philistin s'arrêta; et, s'adressant aux troupes d'Israël rangées en bataille, il leur cria: Pourquoi sortez-vous pour vous ranger en bataille? Ne suis-je pas le Philistin, et n'êtes-vous pas des esclaves de Saül? Choisissez un homme qui descende contre moi! (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἔστη καὶ ἀνεβόησεν εἰς τὴν παράταξιν Ισραηλ καὶ εἰ̃πεν αὐτοι̃ς τί ἐκπορεύεσθε παρατάξασθαι πολέμω̨ ἐξ ἐναντίας ἡμω̃ν οὐκ ἐγώ εἰμι ἀλλόφυλος καὶ ὑμει̃ς Εβραι̃οι του̃ Σαουλ ἐκλέξασθε ἑαυτοι̃ς ἄνδρα καὶ καταβήτω πρός με (Ⅲ) - Stansque clamabat adversum phalangas Israël, et dicebat eis : Quare venistis parati ad prælium ? numquid ego non sum Philisthæus, et vos servi Saul ? eligite ex vobis virum, et descendat ad singulare certamen. (Ⅳ) - 8 ׃17 ויעמד ויקרא אל מערכת ישראל ויאמר להם למה תצאו לערך מלחמה הלוא אנכי הפלשתי ואתם עבדים לשאול ברו לכם איש וירד אלי (Ⅴ)

If he be able to fight with me, and to kill me, then will we be your servants: but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then shall ye be our servants, and serve us.
- S'il peut me battre et qu'il me tue, nous vous serons assujettis; mais si je l'emporte sur lui et que je le tue, vous nous serez assujettis et vous nous servirez. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐὰν δυνηθη̨̃ πρὸς ἐμὲ πολεμη̃σαι καὶ ἐὰν πατάξη̨ με καὶ ἐσόμεθα ὑμι̃ν εἰς δούλους ἐὰν δὲ ἐγὼ δυνηθω̃ καὶ πατάξω αὐτόν ἔσεσθε ἡμι̃ν εἰς δούλους καὶ δουλεύσετε ἡμι̃ν (Ⅲ) - Si quiverit pugnare mecum, et percusserit me, erimus vobis servi : si autem ego prævaluero, et percussero eum, vos servi eritis, et servietis nobis. (Ⅳ) - 9 ׃17 אם יוכל להלחם אתי והכני והיינו לכם לעבדים ואם אני אוכל לו והכיתיו והייתם לנו לעבדים ועבדתם אתנו (Ⅴ)

And the Philistine said, I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together.
- Le Philistin dit encore: Je jette en ce jour un défi à l'armée d'Israël! Donnez-moi un homme, et nous nous battrons ensemble. (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν ὁ ἀλλόφυλος ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ὠνείδισα τὴν παράταξιν Ισραηλ σήμερον ἐν τη̨̃ ἡμέρα̨ ταύτη̨ δότε μοι ἄνδρα καὶ μονομαχήσομεν ἀμφότεροι (Ⅲ) - Et aiebat Philisthæus : Ego exprobravi agminibus Israël hodie : date mihi virum, et ineat mecum singulare certamen. (Ⅳ) - 10 ׃17 ויאמר הפלשתי אני חרפתי את מערכות ישראל היום הזה תנו לי איש ונלחמה יחד (Ⅴ)

When Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and greatly afraid.
- Saül et tout Israël entendirent ces paroles du Philistin, et ils furent effrayés et saisis d'une grande crainte. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἤκουσεν Σαουλ καὶ πα̃ς Ισραηλ τὰ ῥήματα του̃ ἀλλοφύλου ταυ̃τα καὶ ἐξέστησαν καὶ ἐφοβήθησαν σφόδρα (Ⅲ) - Audiens autem Saul et omnes Israëlitæ sermones Philisthæi hujuscemodi, stupebant, et metuebant nimis.\ (Ⅳ) - 11 ׃17 וישמע שאול וכל ישראל את דברי הפלשתי האלה ויחתו ויראו מאד פ (Ⅴ)

Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehemjudah, whose name was Jesse; and he had eight sons: and the man went among men for an old man in the days of Saul.
- Or David était fils de cet Éphratien de Bethléhem de Juda, nommé Isaï, qui avait huit fils, et qui, du temps de Saül, était vieux, avancé en âge. (Ⅱ) - David autem erat filius viri Ephrathæi, de quo supra dictum est, de Bethlehem Juda, cui nomen erat Isai, qui habebat octo filios, et erat vir in diebus Saul senex, et grandævus inter viros. (Ⅳ) - 12 ׃17 ודוד בן איש אפרתי הזה מבית לחם יהודה ושמו ישי ולו שמנה בנים והאיש בימי שאול זקן בא באנשים (Ⅴ)

And the three eldest sons of Jesse went and followed Saul to the battle: and the names of his three sons that went to the battle were Eliab the firstborn, and next unto him Abinadab, and the third Shammah.
- Les trois fils aînés d'Isaï avaient suivi Saül à la guerre; le premier-né de ses trois fils qui étaient partis pour la guerre s'appelait Éliab, le second Abinadab, et le troisième Schamma. (Ⅱ) - Abierunt autem tres filii ejus majores post Saul in prælium : et nomina trium filiorum ejus qui perrexerunt ad bellum, Eliab primogenitus, et secundus Abinadab, tertiusque Samma. (Ⅳ) - 13 ׃17 וילכו שלשת בני ישי הגדלים הלכו אחרי שאול למלחמה ושם שלשת בניו אשר הלכו במלחמה אליאב הבכור ומשנהו אבינדב והשלשי שמה (Ⅴ)

And David was the youngest: and the three eldest followed Saul.
- David était le plus jeune. Et lorsque les trois aînés eurent suivi Saül, (Ⅱ) - David autem erat minimus. Tribus ergo majoribus secutis Saulem, (Ⅳ) - 14 ׃17 ודוד הוא הקטן ושלשה הגדלים הלכו אחרי שאול ס (Ⅴ)

But David went and returned from Saul to feed his father's sheep at Bethlehem.
- David s'en alla de chez Saül et revint à Bethléhem pour faire paître les brebis de son père. (Ⅱ) - abiit David, et reversus est a Saul ut pasceret gregem patris sui in Bethlehem. (Ⅳ) - 15 ׃17 ודוד הלך ושב מעל שאול לרעות את צאן אביו בית לחם (Ⅴ)

And the Philistine drew near morning and evening, and presented himself forty days.
- Le Philistin s'avançait matin et soir, et il se présenta pendant quarante jours. (Ⅱ) - Procedebat vero Philisthæus mane et vespere, et stabat quadraginta diebus. (Ⅳ) - 16 ׃17 ויגש הפלשתי השכם והערב ויתיצב ארבעים יום פ (Ⅴ)

And Jesse said unto David his son, Take now for thy brethren an ephah of this parched corn, and these ten loaves, and run to the camp of thy brethren;
- Isaï dit à David, son fils: Prends pour tes frères cet épha de grain rôti et ces dix pains, et cours au camp vers tes frères; (Ⅱ) - Dixit autem Isai ad David filium suum : Accipe fratribus tuis ephi polentæ, et decem panes istos, et curre in castra ad fratres tuos, (Ⅳ) - 17 ׃17 ויאמר ישי לדוד בנו קח נא לאחיך איפת הקליא הזה ועשרה לחם הזה והרץ המחנה לאחיך (Ⅴ)

And carry these ten cheeses unto the captain of their thousand, and look how thy brethren fare, and take their pledge.
- porte aussi ces dix fromages au chef de leur millier. Tu verras si tes frères se portent bien, et tu m'en donneras des nouvelles sûres. (Ⅱ) - et decem formellas casei has deferes ad tribunum : et fratres tuos visitabis, si recte agant : et cum quibus ordinati sunt, disce. (Ⅳ) - 18 ׃17 ואת עשרת חרצי החלב האלה תביא לשר האלף ואת אחיך תפקד לשלום ואת ערבתם תקח (Ⅴ)

Now Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel, were in the valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.
- Ils sont avec Saül et tous les hommes d'Israël dans la vallée des térébinthes, faisant la guerre aux Philistins. (Ⅱ) - Saul autem, et illi, et omnes filii Israël, in Valle terebinthi pugnabant adversum Philisthiim. (Ⅳ) - 19 ׃17 ושאול והמה וכל איש ישראל בעמק האלה נלחמים עם פלשתים (Ⅴ)

And David rose up early in the morning, and left the sheep with a keeper, and took, and went, as Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the trench, as the host was going forth to the fight, and shouted for the battle.
- David se leva de bon matin. Il laissa les brebis à un gardien, prit sa charge, et partit, comme Isaï le lui avait ordonné. Lorsqu'il arriva au camp, l'armée était en marche pour se ranger en bataille et poussait des cris de guerre. (Ⅱ) - Surrexit itaque David mane, et commendavit gregem custodi : et onustus abiit, sicut præceperat ei Isai. Et venit ad locum Magala, et ad exercitum, qui egressus ad pugnam vociferatus erat in certamine. (Ⅳ) - 20 ׃17 וישכם דוד בבקר ויטש את הצאן על שמר וישא וילך כאשר צוהו ישי ויבא המעגלה והחיל היצא אל המערכה והרעו במלחמה (Ⅴ)

For Israel and the Philistines had put the battle in array, army against army.
- Israël et les Philistins se formèrent en bataille, armée contre armée. (Ⅱ) - Direxerat enim aciem Israël, sed et Philisthiim ex adverso fuerant præparati. (Ⅳ) - 21 ׃17 ותערך ישראל ופלשתים מערכה לקראת מערכה (Ⅴ)

And David left his carriage in the hand of the keeper of the carriage, and ran into the army, and came and saluted his brethren.
- David remit les objets qu'il portait entre les mains du gardien des bagages, et courut vers les rangs de l'armée. Aussitôt arrivé, il demanda à ses frères comment ils se portaient. (Ⅱ) - Derelinquens ergo David vasa quæ attulerat sub manu custodis ad sarcinas, cucurrit ad locum certaminis, et interrogabat si omnia recte agerentur erga fratres suos. (Ⅳ) - 22 ׃17 ויטש דוד את הכלים מעליו על יד שומר הכלים וירץ המערכה ויבא וישאל לאחיו לשלום (Ⅴ)

And as he talked with them, behold, there came up the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, out of the armies of the Philistines, and spake according to the same words: and David heard them.
- Tandis qu'il parlait avec eux, voici, le Philistin de Gath, nommé Goliath, s'avança entre les deux armées, hors des rangs des Philistins. Il tint les mêmes discours que précédemment, et David les entendit. (Ⅱ) - Cumque adhuc ille loqueretur eis, apparuit vir ille spurius ascendens, Goliath nomine, Philisthæus de Geth, de castris Philisthinorum : et loquente eo hæc eadem verba audivit David. (Ⅳ) - 23 ׃17 והוא מדבר עמם והנה איש הבנים עולה גלית הפלשתי שמו מגת *ממערות **ממערכות[a] פלשתים וידבר כדברים האלה וישמע דוד (Ⅴ)

And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him, and were sore afraid.
- A la vue de cet homme, tous ceux d'Israël s'enfuirent devant lui et furent saisis d'une grande crainte. (Ⅱ) - Omnes autem Israëlitæ, cum vidissent virum, fugerunt a facie ejus, timentes eum valde.\ (Ⅳ) - 24 ׃17 וכל איש ישראל בראותם את האיש וינסו מפניו וייראו מאד (Ⅴ)

And the men of Israel said, Have ye seen this man that is come up? surely to defy Israel is he come up: and it shall be, that the man who killeth him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father's house free in Israel.
- Chacun disait: Avez-vous vu s'avancer cet homme? C'est pour jeter à Israël un défi qu'il s'est avancé! Si quelqu'un le tue, le roi le comblera de richesses, il lui donnera sa fille, et il affranchira la maison de son père en Israël. (Ⅱ) - Et dixit unus quispiam de Israël : Num vidistis virum hunc, qui ascendit ? ad exprobrandum enim Israëli ascendit. Virum ergo qui percusserit eum, ditabit rex divitiis magnis, et filiam suam dabit ei, et domum patris ejus faciet absque tributo in Israël. (Ⅳ) - 25 ׃17 ויאמר איש ישראל הראיתם האיש העלה הזה כי לחרף את ישראל עלה והיה האיש אשר יכנו יעשרנו המלך עשר גדול ואת בתו יתן לו ואת בית אביו יעשה חפשי בישראל (Ⅴ)

And David spake to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that killeth this Philistine, and taketh away the reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?
- David dit aux hommes qui se trouvaient près de lui: Que fera-t-on à celui qui tuera ce Philistin, et qui ôtera l'opprobre de dessus Israël? Qui est donc ce Philistin, cet incirconcis, pour insulter l'armée du Dieu vivant? (Ⅱ) - Et ait David ad viros qui stabant secum, dicens : Quid dabitur viro qui percusserit Philisthæum hunc, et tulerit opprobrium de Israël ? quis enim est hic Philisthæus incircumcisus, qui exprobravit acies Dei viventis ? (Ⅳ) - 26 ׃17 ויאמר דוד אל האנשים העמדים עמו לאמר מה יעשה לאיש אשר יכה את הפלשתי הלז והסיר חרפה מעל ישראל כי מי הפלשתי הערל הזה כי חרף מערכות אלהים חיים (Ⅴ)

And the people answered him after this manner, saying, So shall it be done to the man that killeth him.
- Le peuple, répétant les mêmes choses, lui dit: C'est ainsi que l'on fera à celui qui le tuera. (Ⅱ) - Referebat autem ei populus eumdem sermonem, dicens : Hæc dabuntur viro qui percusserit eum. (Ⅳ) - 27 ׃17 ויאמר לו העם כדבר הזה לאמר כה יעשה לאיש אשר יכנו (Ⅴ)

And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle.
- Éliab, son frère aîné, qui l'avait entendu parler à ces hommes, fut enflammé de colère contre David. Et il dit: Pourquoi es-tu descendu, et à qui as-tu laissé ce peu de brebis dans le désert? Je connais ton orgueil et la malice de ton coeur. C'est pour voir la bataille que tu es descendu. (Ⅱ) - Quod cum audisset Eliab frater ejus major, loquente eo cum aliis, iratus est contra David, et ait : Quare venisti, et quare dereliquisti pauculas oves illas in deserto ? Ego novi superbiam tuam, et nequitiam cordis tui : quia ut videres prælium, descendisti. (Ⅳ) - 28 ׃17 וישמע אליאב אחיו הגדול בדברו אל האנשים ויחר אף אליאב בדוד ויאמר למה זה ירדת ועל מי נטשת מעט הצאן ההנה במדבר אני ידעתי את זדנך ואת רע לבבך כי למען ראות המלחמה ירדת (Ⅴ)

And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause?
- David répondit: Qu'ai-je donc fait? ne puis-je pas parler ainsi? (Ⅱ) - Et dixit David : Quid feci ? numquid non verbum est ? (Ⅳ) - 29 ׃17 ויאמר דוד מה עשיתי עתה הלוא דבר הוא (Ⅴ)

And he turned from him toward another, and spake after the same manner: and the people answered him again after the former manner.
- Et il se détourna de lui pour s'adresser à un autre, et fit les mêmes questions. Le peuple lui répondit comme la première fois. (Ⅱ) - Et declinavit paululum ab eo ad alium : dixitque eumdem sermonem. Et respondit ei populus verbum sicut prius.\ (Ⅳ) - 30 ׃17 ויסב מאצלו אל מול אחר ויאמר כדבר הזה וישבהו העם דבר כדבר הראשון (Ⅴ)

And when the words were heard which David spake, they rehearsed them before Saul: and he sent for him.
- Lorsqu'on eut entendu les paroles prononcées par David, on les répéta devant Saül, qui le fit chercher. (Ⅱ) - Audita sunt autem verba quæ locutus est David, et annuntiata in conspectu Saul. (Ⅳ) - 31 ׃17 וישמעו[1] הדברים אשר דבר דוד ויגדו לפני שאול ויקחהו (Ⅴ)

And David said to Saul, Let no man's heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine.
- David dit à Saül: Que personne ne se décourage à cause de ce Philistin! Ton serviteur ira se battre avec lui. And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.
- Saül dit à David: Tu ne peux pas aller te battre avec ce Philistin, car tu es un enfant, et il est un homme de guerre dès sa jeunesse. (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν Σαουλ πρὸς Δαυιδ οὐ μὴ δυνήση̨ πορευθη̃ναι πρὸς τὸν ἀλλόφυλον του̃ πολεμει̃ν μετ' αὐτου̃ ὅτι παιδάριον εἰ̃ σύ καὶ αὐτὸς ἀνὴρ πολεμιστὴς ἐκ νεότητος αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ) - Et ait Saul ad David : Non vales resistere Philisthæo isti, nec pugnare adversus eum, quia puer es : hic autem vir bellator est ab adolescentia sua. And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father's sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock:

Et quand un lion ou un ours venait en enlever une du troupeau, (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν Δαυιδ πρὸς Σαουλ ποιμαίνων ἠ̃ν ὁ δου̃λός σου τω̨̃ πατρὶ αὐτου̃ ἐν τω̨̃ ποιμνίω̨ καὶ ὅταν ἤρχετο ὁ λέων καὶ ἡ ἄρκος καὶ ἐλάμβανεν πρόβατον ἐκ τη̃ς ἀγέλης (Ⅲ) - Dixitque David ad Saul : Pascebat servus tuus patris sui gregem, et veniebat leo vel ursus, et tollebat arietem de medio gregis : (Ⅳ) - 34 ׃17 ויאמר דוד אל שאול רעה היה עבדך לאביו בצאן ובא הארי ואת הדוב ונשא שה מהעדר (Ⅴ)

And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.
- je courais après lui, je le frappais, et j'arrachais la brebis de sa gueule. S'il se dressait contre moi, je le saisissais par la gorge, je le frappais, et je le tuais. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐξεπορευόμην ὀπίσω αὐτου̃ καὶ ἐπάταξα αὐτὸν καὶ ἐξέσπασα ἐκ του̃ στόματος αὐτου̃ καὶ εἰ ἐπανίστατο ἐπ' ἐμέ καὶ ἐκράτησα του̃ φάρυγγος αὐτου̃ καὶ ἐπάταξα καὶ ἐθανάτωσα αὐτόν (Ⅲ) - et persequebar eos, et percutiebam, eruebamque de ore eorum : et illi consurgebant adversum me, et apprehendebam mentum eorum, et suffocabam, interficiebamque eos. Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.
- C'est ainsi que ton serviteur a terrassé le lion et l'ours, et il en sera du Philistin, de cet incirconcis, comme de l'un d'eux, car il a insulté l'armée du Dieu vivant. (Ⅱ) - καὶ τὴν ἄρκον ἔτυπτεν ὁ δου̃λός σου καὶ τὸν λέοντα καὶ ἔσται ὁ ἀλλόφυλος ὁ ἀπερίτμητος ὡς ἓν τούτων οὐχὶ πορεύσομαι καὶ πατάξω αὐτὸν καὶ ἀφελω̃ σήμερον ὄνειδος ἐξ Ισραηλ διότι τίς ὁ ἀπερίτμητος οὑ̃τος ὃς ὠνείδισεν παράταξιν θεου̃ ζω̃ντος (Ⅲ) - Nam et leonem et ursum interfeci ego servus tuus : erit igitur et Philisthæus hic incircumcisus quasi unus ex eis. Nunc vadam, et auferam opprobrium populi : quoniam quis est iste Philisthæus incircumcisus, qui ausus est maledicere exercitui Dei viventis ? David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.
- David dit encore: L'Éternel, qui m'a délivré de la griffe du lion et de la patte de l'ours, me délivrera aussi de la main de ce Philistin. Et Saül dit à David: Va, et que l'Éternel soit avec toi! (Ⅱ) - κύριος ὃς ἐξείλατό με ἐκ χειρὸς του̃ λέοντος καὶ ἐκ χειρὸς τη̃ς ἄρκου αὐτὸς ἐξελει̃ταί με ἐκ χειρὸς του̃ ἀλλοφύλου του̃ ἀπεριτμήτου τούτου καὶ εἰ̃πεν Σαουλ πρὸς Δαυιδ πορεύου καὶ ἔσται κύριος μετὰ σου̃ (Ⅲ) - Et ait David : Dominus qui eripuit me de manu leonis, et de manu ursi, ipse me liberabit de manu Philisthæi hujus. And Saul armed David with his armor, and he put an helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of mail.
- Saül fit mettre ses vêtements à David, il plaça sur sa tête un casque d'airain, et le revêtit d'une cuirasse. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐνέδυσεν Σαουλ τὸν Δαυιδ μανδύαν καὶ περικεφαλαίαν χαλκη̃ν περὶ τὴν κεφαλὴν αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ) - Et induit Saul David vestimentis suis, et imposuit galeam æream super caput ejus, et vestivit eum lorica. (Ⅳ) - 38 ׃17 וילבש שאול את דוד מדיו ונתן קובע נחשת על ראשו וילבש אתו שריון (Ⅴ)

And David girded his sword upon his armor, and he assayed to go; for he had not proved it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off him.
- David ceignit l'épée de Saül par-dessus ses habits, et voulut marcher, car il n'avait pas encore essayé. Mais il dit à Saül: Je ne puis pas marcher avec cette armure, je n'y suis pas accoutumé. Et il s'en débarrassa. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἔζωσεν τὸν Δαυιδ τὴν ῥομφαίαν αὐτου̃ ἐπάνω του̃ μανδύου αὐτου̃ καὶ ἐκοπίασεν περιπατήσας ἅπαξ καὶ δίς καὶ εἰ̃πεν Δαυιδ πρὸς Σαουλ οὐ μὴ δύνωμαι πορευθη̃ναι ἐν τούτοις ὅτι οὐ πεπείραμαι καὶ ἀφαιρου̃σιν αὐτὰ ἀπ' αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ) - Accinctus ergo David gladio ejus super vestem suam, cœpit tentare si armatus posset incedere : non enim habebat consuetudinem. Dixitque David ad Saul : Non possum sic incedere, quia non usum habeo.\ Et deposuit ea, (Ⅳ) - 39 ׃17 ויחגר דוד את חרבו מעל למדיו ויאל ללכת כי לא נסה ויאמר דוד אל שאול לא אוכל ללכת באלה כי לא נסיתי ויסרם דוד מעליו (Ⅴ)

And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd's bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine.
- Il prit en main son bâton, choisit dans le torrent cinq pierres polies, et les mit dans sa gibecière de berger et dans sa poche. Puis, sa fronde à la main, il s'avança contre le Philistin. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἔλαβεν τὴν βακτηρίαν αὐτου̃ ἐν τη̨̃ χειρὶ αὐτου̃ καὶ ἐξελέξατο ἑαυτω̨̃ πέντε λίθους λείους ἐκ του̃ χειμάρρου καὶ ἔθετο αὐτοὺς ἐν τω̨̃ καδίω̨ τω̨̃ ποιμενικω̨̃ τω̨̃ ὄντι αὐτω̨̃ εἰς συλλογὴν καὶ σφενδόνην αὐτου̃ ἐν τη̨̃ χειρὶ αὐτου̃ καὶ προση̃λθεν πρὸς τὸν ἄνδρα τὸν ἀλλόφυλον (Ⅲ) - et tulit baculum suum, quem semper habebat in manibus : et elegit sibi quinque limpidissimos lapides de torrente, et misit eos in peram pastoralem quam habebat secum, et fundam manu tulit : et processit adversum Philisthæum. (Ⅳ) - 40 ׃17 ויקח מקלו בידו ויבחר לו חמשה חלקי אבנים מן הנחל וישם אתם בכלי הרעים אשר לו ובילקוט וקלעו בידו ויגש אל הפלשתי (Ⅴ)

And the Philistine came on and drew near unto David; and the man that bare the shield went before him.

And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance.
- Le Philistin regarda, et lorsqu'il aperçut David, il le méprisa, ne voyant en lui qu'un enfant, blond et d'une belle figure. (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃δεν Γολιαδ τὸν Δαυιδ καὶ ἠτίμασεν αὐτόν ὅτι αὐτὸς ἠ̃ν παιδάριον καὶ αὐτὸς πυρράκης μετὰ κάλλους ὀφθαλμω̃ν (Ⅲ) - Cumque inspexisset Philisthæus, et vidisset David, despexit eum. Erat enim adolescens, rufus, et pulcher aspectu. (Ⅳ) - 42 ׃17 ויבט הפלשתי ויראה את דוד ויבזהו כי היה נער ואדמני עם יפה מראה (Ⅴ)

And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
- Le Philistin dit à David: Suis-je un chien, pour que tu viennes à moi avec des bâtons? Et, après l'avoir maudit par ses dieux, (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν ὁ ἀλλόφυλος πρὸς Δαυιδ ὡσεὶ κύων ἐγώ εἰμι ὅτι σὺ ἔρχη̨ ἐπ' ἐμὲ ἐν ῥάβδω̨ καὶ λίθοις καὶ εἰ̃πεν Δαυιδ οὐχί ἀλλ' ἢ χείρω κυνός καὶ κατηράσατο ὁ ἀλλόφυλος τὸν Δαυιδ ἐν τοι̃ς θεοι̃ς αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ) - Et dixit Philisthæus ad David : Numquid ego canis sum, quod tu venis ad me cum baculo ? Et maledixit Philisthæus David in diis suis : (Ⅳ) - 43 ׃17 ויאמר הפלשתי אל דוד הכלב אנכי כי אתה בא אלי במקלות ויקלל הפלשתי את דוד באלהיו (Ⅴ)

And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field.
- il ajouta: Viens vers moi, et je donnerai ta chair aux oiseaux du ciel et aux bêtes des champs. (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν ὁ ἀλλόφυλος πρὸς Δαυιδ δευ̃ρο πρός με καὶ δώσω τὰς σάρκας σου τοι̃ς πετεινοι̃ς του̃ οὐρανου̃ καὶ τοι̃ς κτήνεσιν τη̃ς γη̃ς (Ⅲ) - dixitque ad David : Veni ad me, et dabo carnes tuas volatilibus cæli et bestiis terræ. (Ⅳ) - 44 ׃17 ויאמר הפלשתי אל דוד לכה אלי ואתנה את בשרך לעוף השמים ולבהמת השדה ס (Ⅴ)

Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.
- David dit au Philistin: Tu marches contre moi avec l'épée, la lance et le javelot; et moi, je marche contre toi au nom de l'Éternel des armées, du Dieu de l'armée d'Israël, que tu as insultée. (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰπεν Δαυιδ πρὸς τὸν ἀλλόφυλον σὺ ἔρχη̨ πρός με ἐν ῥομφαία̨ καὶ ἐν δόρατι καὶ ἐν ἀσπίδι κἀγὼ πορεύομαι πρὸς σὲ ἐν ὀνόματι κυρίου σαβαωθ θεου̃ παρατάξεως Ισραηλ ἣν ὠνείδισας σήμερον (Ⅲ) - Dixit autem David ad Philisthæum : Tu venis ad me cum gladio, et hasta, et clypeo : ego autem venio ad te in nomine Domini exercituum, Dei agminum Israël quibus exprobrasti (Ⅳ) - 45 ׃17 ויאמר דוד אל הפלשתי אתה בא אלי בחרב ובחנית ובכידון ואנכי בא אליך בשם יהוה צבאות אלהי מערכות ישראל אשר חרפת (Ⅴ)

This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcasses of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.
- Aujourd'hui l'Éternel te livrera entre mes mains, je t'abattrai et je te couperai la tête; aujourd'hui je donnerai les cadavres du camp des Philistins aux oiseaux du ciel et aux animaux de la terre. Et toute la terre saura qu'Israël a un Dieu. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἀποκλείσει σε κύριος σήμερον εἰς τὴν χει̃ρά μου καὶ ἀποκτενω̃ σε καὶ ἀφελω̃ τὴν κεφαλήν σου ἀπὸ σου̃ καὶ δώσω τὰ κω̃λά σου καὶ τὰ κω̃λα παρεμβολη̃ς ἀλλοφύλων ἐν ταύτη̨ τη̨̃ ἡμέρα̨ τοι̃ς πετεινοι̃ς του̃ οὐρανου̃ καὶ τοι̃ς θηρίοις τη̃ς γη̃ς καὶ γνώσεται πα̃σα ἡ γη̃ ὅτι ἔστιν θεὸς ἐν Ισραηλ (Ⅲ) - hodie, et dabit te Dominus in manu mea, et percutiam te, et auferam caput tuum a te : et dabo cadavera castrorum Philisthiim hodie volatilibus cæli, et bestiis terræ, ut sciat omnis terra quia est Deus in Israël, (Ⅳ) - 46 ׃17 היום הזה יסגרך יהוה בידי והכיתך והסרתי את ראשך מעליך ונתתי פגר מחנה פלשתים היום הזה לעוף השמים ולחית הארץ וידעו כל הארץ כי יש אלהים לישראל (Ⅴ)

And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD's, and he will give you into our hands.
- Et toute cette multitude saura que ce n'est ni par l'épée ni par la lance que l'Éternel sauve. Car la victoire appartient à l'Éternel. Et il vous livre entre nos mains. (Ⅱ) - καὶ γνώσεται πα̃σα ἡ ἐκκλησία αὕτη ὅτι οὐκ ἐν ῥομφαία̨ καὶ δόρατι σώ̨ζει κύριος ὅτι του̃ κυρίου ὁ πόλεμος καὶ παραδώσει κύριος ὑμα̃ς εἰς χει̃ρας ἡμω̃ν (Ⅲ) - et noverit universa ecclesia hæc, quia non in gladio nec in hasta salvat Dominus : ipsius enim est bellum, et tradet vos in manus nostras. (Ⅳ) - 47 ׃17 וידעו כל הקהל הזה כי לא בחרב ובחנית יהושיע יהוה כי ליהוה המלחמה ונתן אתכם בידנו (Ⅴ)

And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came, and drew nigh to meet David, that David hastened, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.
- Aussitôt que le Philistin se mit en mouvement pour marcher au-devant de David, David courut sur le champ de bataille à la rencontre du Philistin. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἀνέστη ὁ ἀλλόφυλος καὶ ἐπορεύθη εἰς συνάντησιν Δαυιδ (Ⅲ) - Cum ergo surrexisset Philisthæus, et veniret, et appropinquaret contra David, festinavit David et cucurrit ad pugnam ex adverso Philisthæi. (Ⅳ) - 48 ׃17 והיה כי קם הפלשתי וילך ויקרב לקראת דוד וימהר דוד וירץ המערכה לקראת הפלשתי (Ⅴ)

And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.
- Il mit la main dans sa gibecière, y prit une pierre, et la lança avec sa fronde; il frappa le Philistin au front, et la pierre s'enfonça dans le front du Philistin, qui tomba le visage contre terre. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἐξέτεινεν Δαυιδ τὴν χει̃ρα αὐτου̃ εἰς τὸ κάδιον καὶ ἔλαβεν ἐκει̃θεν λίθον ἕνα καὶ ἐσφενδόνησεν καὶ ἐπάταξεν τὸν ἀλλόφυλον ἐπὶ τὸ μέτωπον αὐτου̃ καὶ διέδυ ὁ λίθος διὰ τη̃ς περικεφαλαίας εἰς τὸ μέτωπον αὐτου̃ καὶ ἔπεσεν ἐπὶ πρόσωπον αὐτου̃ ἐπὶ τὴν γη̃ν (Ⅲ) - Et misit manum suam in peram, tulitque unum lapidem, et funda jecit, et circumducens percussit Philisthæum in fronte : et infixus est lapis in fronte ejus, et cecidit in faciem suam super terram. (Ⅳ) - 49 ׃17 וישלח דוד את ידו אל הכלי ויקח משם אבן ויקלע ויך את הפלשתי אל מצחו ותטבע האבן במצחו ויפל על פניו ארצה (Ⅴ)

So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.
- Ainsi, avec une fronde et une pierre, David fut plus fort que le Philistin; il le terrassa et lui ôta la vie, sans avoir d'épée à la main. (Ⅱ) - Prævaluitque David adversum Philisthæum in funda et lapide, percussumque Philisthæum interfecit. Cumque gladium non haberet in manu David, (Ⅳ) - 50 ׃17 ויחזק דוד מן הפלשתי בקלע ובאבן ויך את הפלשתי וימיתהו וחרב אין ביד דוד (Ⅴ)
