Maintenant encore ma plainte est une révolte, Mais la souffrance étouffe mes soupirs.
- Even to day is my complaint bitter: my stroke is heavier than my groaning. (Ⅱ) - καὶ δὴ οἰ̃δα ὅτι ἐκ χειρός μου ἡ ἔλεγξίς ἐστιν καὶ ἡ χεὶρ αὐτου̃ βαρει̃α γέγονεν ἐπ' ἐμω̨̃ στεναγμω̨̃ (Ⅲ) - Nunc quoque in amaritudine est sermo meus,/ et manus plagæ meæ aggravata est super gemitum meum./ (Ⅳ) - 2 ׃23 גם היום מרי שחי ידי כבדה על אנחתי (Ⅴ)

Oh! si je savais où le trouver, Si je pouvais arriver jusqu'à son trône,
- Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat! (Ⅱ) - τίς δ' ἄρα γνοίη ὅτι εὕροιμι αὐτὸν καὶ ἔλθοιμι εἰς τέλος (Ⅲ) - Quis mihi tribuat ut cognoscam et inveniam illum,/ et veniam usque ad solium ejus ?/ (Ⅳ) - 3 ׃23 מי יתן ידעתי ואמצאהו אבוא עד תכונתו (Ⅴ)

Je plaiderais ma cause devant lui, Je remplirais ma bouche d'arguments,
- I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments. (Ⅱ) - εἴποιμι δὲ ἐμαυτου̃ κρίμα τὸ δὲ στόμα μου ἐμπλήσαιμι ἐλέγχων (Ⅲ) - Ponam coram eo judicium,/ et os meum replebo increpationibus :/ (Ⅳ) - 4 ׃23 אערכה לפניו משפט ופי אמלא תוכחות (Ⅴ)

Je connaîtrais ce qu'il peut avoir à répondre, Je verrais ce qu'il peut avoir à me dire.
- I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would say unto me. (Ⅱ) - γνώ̨ην δὲ ῥήματα ἅ μοι ἐρει̃ αἰσθοίμην δὲ τίνα μοι ἀπαγγελει̃ (Ⅲ) - ut sciam verba quæ mihi respondeat,/ et intelligam quid loquatur mihi./ (Ⅳ) - 5 ׃23 אדעה מלים יענני ואבינה מה יאמר לי (Ⅴ)

Emploierait-il toute sa force à me combattre? Ne daignerait-il pas au moins m'écouter?
- Will he plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me. (Ⅱ) - καὶ εἰ ἐν πολλη̨̃ ἰσχύι ἐπελεύσεταί μοι εἰ̃τα ἐν ἀπειλη̨̃ μοι οὐ χρήσεται (Ⅲ) - Nolo multa fortitudine contendat mecum,/ nec magnitudinis suæ mole me premat./ (Ⅳ) - 6 ׃23 הברב כח[c] יריב עמדי לא אך הוא ישם בי (Ⅴ)

Ce serait un homme droit qui plaiderait avec lui, Et je serais pour toujours absous par mon juge.
- There the righteous might dispute with him; so should I be delivered for ever from my judge. (Ⅱ) - ἀλήθεια γὰρ καὶ ἔλεγχος παρ' αὐτου̃ ἐξαγάγοι δὲ εἰς τέλος τὸ κρίμα μου (Ⅲ) - Proponat æquitatem contra me,/ et perveniat ad victoriam judicium meum./ (Ⅳ) - 7 ׃23 שם ישר נוכח עמו ואפלטה לנצח משפטי (Ⅴ)

Mais, si je vais à l'orient, il n'y est pas; Si je vais à l'occident, je ne le trouve pas;
- Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him: (Ⅱ) - εἰς γὰρ πρω̃τα πορεύσομαι καὶ οὐκέτι εἰμί τὰ δὲ ἐπ' ἐσχάτοις τί οἰ̃δα (Ⅲ) - Si ad orientem iero, non apparet ;/ si ad occidentem, non intelligam eum./ (Ⅳ) - 8 ׃23 הן קדם אהלך ואיננו ואחור ולא אבין לו (Ⅴ)

Est-il occupé au nord, je ne puis le voir; Se cache-t-il au midi, je ne puis le découvrir.
- On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him: (Ⅱ) - ἀριστερὰ ποιήσαντος αὐτου̃ καὶ οὐ κατέσχον περιβαλει̃ δεξιά καὶ οὐκ ὄψομαι (Ⅲ) - Si ad sinistram, quid agam ? non apprehendam eum ;/ si me vertam ad dexteram, non videbo illum./ (Ⅳ) - 9 ׃23 שמאול בעשתו ולא אחז יעטף ימין ולא אראה (Ⅴ)

Il sait néanmoins quelle voie j'ai suivie; Et, s'il m'éprouvait, je sortirais pur comme l'or.
- But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold. (Ⅱ) - οἰ̃δεν γὰρ ἤδη ὁδόν μου διέκρινεν δέ με ὥσπερ τὸ χρυσίον (Ⅲ) - Ipse vero scit viam meam,/ et probavit me quasi aurum quod per ignem transit./ (Ⅳ) - 10 ׃23 כי ידע דרך עמדי בחנני כזהב אצא (Ⅴ)

Mon pied s'est attaché à ses pas; J'ai gardé sa voie, et je ne m'en suis point détourné.
- My foot hath held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined. (Ⅱ) - ἐξελεύσομαι δὲ ἐν ἐντάλμασιν αὐτου̃ ὁδοὺς γὰρ αὐτου̃ ἐφύλαξα καὶ οὐ μὴ ἐκκλίνω (Ⅲ) - Vestigia ejus secutus est pes meus :/ viam ejus custodivi, et non declinavi ex ea./ (Ⅳ) - 11 ׃23 באשרו אחזה רגלי דרכו שמרתי ולא אט (Ⅴ)

Je n'ai pas abandonné les commandements de ses lèvres; J'ai fait plier ma volonté aux paroles de sa bouche.
- Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food. (Ⅱ) - ἀπὸ ἐνταλμάτων αὐτου̃ καὶ οὐ μὴ παρέλθω ἐν δὲ κόλπω̨ μου ἔκρυψα ῥήματα αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ) - A mandatis labiorum ejus non recessi,/ et in sinu meo abscondi verba oris ejus./ (Ⅳ) - 12 ׃23 מצות שפתיו ולא אמיש מחקי צפנתי אמרי פיו (Ⅴ)

Mais sa résolution est arrêtée; qui s'y opposera? Ce que son âme désire, il l'exécute.
- But he is in one mind, and who can turn him? and what his soul desireth, even that he doeth. (Ⅱ) - εἰ δὲ καὶ αὐτὸς ἔκρινεν οὕτως τίς ἐστιν ὁ ἀντειπὼν αὐτω̨̃ ὃ γὰρ αὐτὸς ἠθέλησεν καὶ ἐποίησεν (Ⅲ) - Ipse enim solus est, et nemo avertere potest cogitationem ejus :/ et anima ejus quodcumque voluit, hoc fecit./ (Ⅳ) - 13 ׃23 והוא באחד ומי ישיבנו ונפשו אותה ויעש (Ⅴ)

Il accomplira donc ses desseins à mon égard, Et il en concevra bien d'autres encore.
- For he performeth the thing that is appointed for me: and many such things are with him. (Ⅱ) - διὰ του̃το ἐπ' αὐτω̨̃ ἐσπούδακα νουθετούμενος δὲ ἐφρόντισα αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ) - Cum expleverit in me voluntatem suam,/ et alia multa similia præsto sunt ei./ (Ⅳ) - 14 ׃23 כי ישלים חקי וכהנה רבות עמו (Ⅴ)

Voilà pourquoi sa présence m'épouvante; Quand j'y pense, j'ai peur de lui.
- Therefore am I troubled at his presence: when I consider, I am afraid of him. (Ⅱ) - ἐπὶ τούτω̨ ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτου̃ κατασπουδασθω̃ κατανοήσω καὶ πτοηθήσομαι ἐξ αὐτου̃ (Ⅲ) - Et idcirco a facie ejus turbatus sum,/ et considerans eum, timore sollicitor./ (Ⅳ) - 15 ׃23 על כן מפניו אבהל אתבונן ואפחד ממנו (Ⅴ)

Dieu a brisé mon courage, Le Tout Puissant m'a rempli d'effroi.
- For God maketh my heart soft, and the Almighty troubleth me: (Ⅱ) - κύριος δὲ ἐμαλάκυνεν τὴν καρδίαν μου ὁ δὲ παντοκράτωρ ἐσπούδασέν με (Ⅲ) - Deus mollivit cor meum,/ et Omnipotens conturbavit me./ (Ⅳ) - 16 ׃23 ואל הרך לבי ושדי הבהילני (Ⅴ)

Car ce ne sont pas les ténèbres qui m'anéantissent, Ce n'est pas l'obscurité dont je suis couvert.
- Because I was not cut off before the darkness, neither hath he covered the darkness from my face. (Ⅱ) - οὐ γὰρ ἤ̨δειν ὅτι ἐπελεύσεταί μοι σκότος πρὸ προσώπου δέ μου ἐκάλυψεν γνόφος (Ⅲ) - Non enim perii propter imminentes tenebras,/ nec faciem meam operuit caligo.] (Ⅳ) - 17 ׃23 כי לא נצמתי מפני חשך ומפני כסה אפל (Ⅴ)
