1 ׃23 ויען איוב ויאמר
- Job prit la parole et dit: (Ⅱ) - Then Job answered and said, (Ⅲ) - ὑπολαβὼν δὲ Ιωβ λέγει (Ⅳ) - Respondens autem Job, ait : (Ⅴ)

2 ׃23 גם היום מרי שחי ידי כבדה על אנחתי
- Maintenant encore ma plainte est une révolte, Mais la souffrance étouffe mes soupirs. (Ⅱ) - Even to day is my complaint bitter: my stroke is heavier than my groaning. (Ⅲ) - καὶ δὴ οἰ̃δα ὅτι ἐκ χειρός μου ἡ ἔλεγξίς ἐστιν καὶ ἡ χεὶρ αὐτου̃ βαρει̃α γέγονεν ἐπ' ἐμω̨̃ στεναγμω̨̃ (Ⅳ) - Nunc quoque in amaritudine est sermo meus,/ et manus plagæ meæ aggravata est super gemitum meum./ (Ⅴ)

3 ׃23 מי יתן ידעתי ואמצאהו אבוא עד תכונתו
- Oh! si je savais où le trouver, Si je pouvais arriver jusqu'à son trône, (Ⅱ) - Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat! (Ⅲ) - τίς δ' ἄρα γνοίη ὅτι εὕροιμι αὐτὸν καὶ ἔλθοιμι εἰς τέλος (Ⅳ) - Quis mihi tribuat ut cognoscam et inveniam illum,/ et veniam usque ad solium ejus ?/ (Ⅴ)

4 ׃23 אערכה לפניו משפט ופי אמלא תוכחות
- Je plaiderais ma cause devant lui, Je remplirais ma bouche d'arguments, (Ⅱ) - I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments. (Ⅲ) - εἴποιμι δὲ ἐμαυτου̃ κρίμα τὸ δὲ στόμα μου ἐμπλήσαιμι ἐλέγχων (Ⅳ) - Ponam coram eo judicium,/ et os meum replebo increpationibus :/ (Ⅴ)

5 ׃23 אדעה מלים יענני ואבינה מה יאמר לי
- Je connaîtrais ce qu'il peut avoir à répondre, Je verrais ce qu'il peut avoir à me dire. (Ⅱ) - I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would say unto me. (Ⅲ) - γνώ̨ην δὲ ῥήματα ἅ μοι ἐρει̃ αἰσθοίμην δὲ τίνα μοι ἀπαγγελει̃ (Ⅳ) - ut sciam verba quæ mihi respondeat,/ et intelligam quid loquatur mihi./ (Ⅴ)

6 ׃23 הברב כח[c] יריב עמדי לא אך הוא ישם בי
- Emploierait-il toute sa force à me combattre? Ne daignerait-il pas au moins m'écouter? (Ⅱ) - Will he plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me. (Ⅲ) - καὶ εἰ ἐν πολλη̨̃ ἰσχύι ἐπελεύσεταί μοι εἰ̃τα ἐν ἀπειλη̨̃ μοι οὐ χρήσεται (Ⅳ) - Nolo multa fortitudine contendat mecum,/ nec magnitudinis suæ mole me premat./ (Ⅴ)

7 ׃23 שם ישר נוכח עמו ואפלטה לנצח משפטי
- Ce serait un homme droit qui plaiderait avec lui, Et je serais pour toujours absous par mon juge. (Ⅱ) - There the righteous might dispute with him; so should I be delivered for ever from my judge. (Ⅲ) - ἀλήθεια γὰρ καὶ ἔλεγχος παρ' αὐτου̃ ἐξαγάγοι δὲ εἰς τέλος τὸ κρίμα μου (Ⅳ) - Proponat æquitatem contra me,/ et perveniat ad victoriam judicium meum./ (Ⅴ)

8 ׃23 הן קדם אהלך ואיננו ואחור ולא אבין לו
- Mais, si je vais à l'orient, il n'y est pas; Si je vais à l'occident, je ne le trouve pas; (Ⅱ) - Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him: (Ⅲ) - εἰς γὰρ πρω̃τα πορεύσομαι καὶ οὐκέτι εἰμί τὰ δὲ ἐπ' ἐσχάτοις τί οἰ̃δα (Ⅳ) - Si ad orientem iero, non apparet ;/ si ad occidentem, non intelligam eum./ (Ⅴ)

9 ׃23 שמאול בעשתו ולא אחז יעטף ימין ולא אראה
- Est-il occupé au nord, je ne puis le voir; Se cache-t-il au midi, je ne puis le découvrir. (Ⅱ) - On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him: (Ⅲ) - ἀριστερὰ ποιήσαντος αὐτου̃ καὶ οὐ κατέσχον περιβαλει̃ δεξιά καὶ οὐκ ὄψομαι (Ⅳ) - Si ad sinistram, quid agam ? non apprehendam eum ;/ si me vertam ad dexteram, non videbo illum./ (Ⅴ)

10 ׃23 כי ידע דרך עמדי בחנני כזהב אצא
- Il sait néanmoins quelle voie j'ai suivie; Et, s'il m'éprouvait, je sortirais pur comme l'or. (Ⅱ) - But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold. (Ⅲ) - οἰ̃δεν γὰρ ἤδη ὁδόν μου διέκρινεν δέ με ὥσπερ τὸ χρυσίον (Ⅳ) - Ipse vero scit viam meam,/ et probavit me quasi aurum quod per ignem transit./ (Ⅴ)

11 ׃23 באשרו אחזה רגלי דרכו שמרתי ולא אט
- Mon pied s'est attaché à ses pas; J'ai gardé sa voie, et je ne m'en suis point détourné. (Ⅱ) - My foot hath held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined. (Ⅲ) - ἐξελεύσομαι δὲ ἐν ἐντάλμασιν αὐτου̃ ὁδοὺς γὰρ αὐτου̃ ἐφύλαξα καὶ οὐ μὴ ἐκκλίνω (Ⅳ) - Vestigia ejus secutus est pes meus :/ viam ejus custodivi, et non declinavi ex ea./ (Ⅴ)

12 ׃23 מצות שפתיו ולא אמיש מחקי צפנתי אמרי פיו
- Je n'ai pas abandonné les commandements de ses lèvres; J'ai fait plier ma volonté aux paroles de sa bouche. (Ⅱ) - Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food. (Ⅲ) - ἀπὸ ἐνταλμάτων αὐτου̃ καὶ οὐ μὴ παρέλθω ἐν δὲ κόλπω̨ μου ἔκρυψα ῥήματα αὐτου̃ (Ⅳ) - A mandatis labiorum ejus non recessi,/ et in sinu meo abscondi verba oris ejus./ (Ⅴ)

13 ׃23 והוא באחד ומי ישיבנו ונפשו אותה ויעש
- Mais sa résolution est arrêtée; qui s'y opposera? Ce que son âme désire, il l'exécute. (Ⅱ) - But he is in one mind, and who can turn him? and what his soul desireth, even that he doeth. (Ⅲ) - εἰ δὲ καὶ αὐτὸς ἔκρινεν οὕτως τίς ἐστιν ὁ ἀντειπὼν αὐτω̨̃ ὃ γὰρ αὐτὸς ἠθέλησεν καὶ ἐποίησεν (Ⅳ) - Ipse enim solus est, et nemo avertere potest cogitationem ejus :/ et anima ejus quodcumque voluit, hoc fecit./ (Ⅴ)

14 ׃23 כי ישלים חקי וכהנה רבות עמו
- Il accomplira donc ses desseins à mon égard, Et il en concevra bien d'autres encore. (Ⅱ) - For he performeth the thing that is appointed for me: and many such things are with him. (Ⅲ) - διὰ του̃το ἐπ' αὐτω̨̃ ἐσπούδακα νουθετούμενος δὲ ἐφρόντισα αὐτου̃ (Ⅳ) - Cum expleverit in me voluntatem suam,/ et alia multa similia præsto sunt ei./ (Ⅴ)

15 ׃23 על כן מפניו אבהל אתבונן ואפחד ממנו
- Voilà pourquoi sa présence m'épouvante; Quand j'y pense, j'ai peur de lui. (Ⅱ) - Therefore am I troubled at his presence: when I consider, I am afraid of him. (Ⅲ) - ἐπὶ τούτω̨ ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτου̃ κατασπουδασθω̃ κατανοήσω καὶ πτοηθήσομαι ἐξ αὐτου̃ (Ⅳ) - Et idcirco a facie ejus turbatus sum,/ et considerans eum, timore sollicitor./ (Ⅴ)

16 ׃23 ואל הרך לבי ושדי הבהילני
- Dieu a brisé mon courage, Le Tout Puissant m'a rempli d'effroi. (Ⅱ) - For God maketh my heart soft, and the Almighty troubleth me: (Ⅲ) - κύριος δὲ ἐμαλάκυνεν τὴν καρδίαν μου ὁ δὲ παντοκράτωρ ἐσπούδασέν με (Ⅳ) - Deus mollivit cor meum,/ et Omnipotens conturbavit me./ (Ⅴ)

17 ׃23 כי לא נצמתי מפני חשך ומפני כסה אפל
- Car ce ne sont pas les ténèbres qui m'anéantissent, Ce n'est pas l'obscurité dont je suis couvert. (Ⅱ) - Because I was not cut off before the darkness, neither hath he covered the darkness from my face. (Ⅲ) - οὐ γὰρ ἤ̨δειν ὅτι ἐπελεύσεταί μοι σκότος πρὸ προσώπου δέ μου ἐκάλυψεν γνόφος (Ⅳ) - Non enim perii propter imminentes tenebras,/ nec faciem meam operuit caligo.] (Ⅴ)
