1 ׃23 כי תשב ללחום את מושל בין תבין את אשר לפניך
- Si tu es à table avec un grand, Fais attention à ce qui est devant toi; (Ⅱ) - When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee: (Ⅲ) - ἐὰν καθίση̨ς δειπνει̃ν ἐπὶ τραπέζης δυναστω̃ν νοητω̃ς νόει τὰ παρατιθέμενά σοι (Ⅳ) - Quando sederis ut comedas cum principe,/ diligenter attende quæ apposita sunt ante faciem tuam./ (Ⅴ)

2 ׃23 ושמת שכין בלעך אם בעל נפש אתה
- Mets un couteau à ta gorge, Si tu as trop d'avidité. (Ⅱ) - And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite. (Ⅲ) - καὶ ἐπίβαλλε τὴν χει̃ρά σου εἰδὼς ὅτι τοιαυ̃τά σε δει̃ παρασκευάσαι (Ⅳ) - Et statue cultrum in gutture tuo :/ si tamen habes in potestate animam tuam./ (Ⅴ)

3 ׃23 אל תתאו[Q][q] למטעמותיו והוא לחם כזבים
- Ne convoite pas ses friandises: C'est un aliment trompeur. (Ⅱ) - Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat. (Ⅲ) - εἰ δὲ ἀπληστότερος εἰ̃ μὴ ἐπιθύμει τω̃ν ἐδεσμάτων αὐτου̃ ταυ̃τα γὰρ ἔχεται ζωη̃ς ψευδου̃ς (Ⅳ) - Ne desideres de cibis ejus,/ in quo est panis mendacii./ (Ⅴ)

4 ׃23 אל תיגע להעשיר מבינתך חדל
- Ne te tourmente pas pour t'enrichir, N'y applique pas ton intelligence. (Ⅱ) - Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom. (Ⅲ) - μὴ παρεκτείνου πένης ὢν πλουσίω̨ τη̨̃ δὲ ση̨̃ ἐννοία̨ ἀπόσχου (Ⅳ) - Noli laborare ut diteris,/ sed prudentiæ tuæ pone modum./ (Ⅴ)

5 ׃23 *התעוף **התעיף עיניך בו ואיננו כי עשה יעשה לו כנפים כנשר *ועיף **יעוף השמים פ
- Veux-tu poursuivre du regard ce qui va disparaître? Car la richesse se fait des ailes, Et comme l'aigle, elle prend son vol vers les cieux. (Ⅱ) - Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven. (Ⅲ) - ἐὰν ἐπιστήση̨ς τὸ σὸν ὄμμα πρὸς αὐτόν οὐδαμου̃ φανει̃ται κατεσκεύασται γὰρ αὐτω̨̃ πτέρυγες ὥσπερ ἀετου̃ καὶ ὑποστρέφει εἰς τὸν οἰ̃κον του̃ προεστηκότος αὐτου̃ (Ⅳ) - Ne erigas oculos tuos ad opes quas non potes habere,/ quia facient sibi pennas quasi aquilæ, et volabunt in cælum./ (Ⅴ)

6 ׃23 אל תלחם את לחם רע עין ואל *תתאו **תתאיו למטעמתיו
- Ne mange pas le pain de celui dont le regard est malveillant, Et ne convoite pas ses friandises; (Ⅱ) - Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainty meats: (Ⅲ) - μὴ συνδείπνει ἀνδρὶ βασκάνω̨ μηδὲ ἐπιθύμει τω̃ν βρωμάτων αὐτου̃ (Ⅳ) - Ne comedas cum homine invido,/ et ne desideres cibos ejus :/ (Ⅴ)

7 ׃23 כי כמו שער בנפשו כן הוא אכל ושתה יאמר לך ולבו בל עמך
- Car il est comme les pensées de son âme. Mange et bois, te dira-t-il; Mais son coeur n'est point avec toi. (Ⅱ) - For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee. (Ⅲ) - ὃν τρόπον γὰρ εἴ τις καταπίοι τρίχα οὕτως ἐσθίει καὶ πίνει (Ⅳ) - quoniam in similitudinem arioli et conjectoris/ æstimat quod ignorat./ Comede et bibe, dicet tibi ;/ et mens ejus non est tecum./ (Ⅴ)

8 ׃23 פתך אכלת תקיאנה ושחת דבריך הנעימים
- Tu vomiras le morceau que tu as mangé, Et tu auras perdu tes propos agréables. (Ⅱ) - The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words. (Ⅲ) - μηδὲ πρὸς σὲ εἰσαγάγη̨ς αὐτὸν καὶ φάγη̨ς τὸν ψωμόν σου μετ' αὐτου̃ ἐξεμέσει γὰρ αὐτὸν καὶ λυμανει̃ται τοὺς λόγους σου τοὺς καλούς (Ⅳ) - Cibos quos comederas evomes,/ et perdes pulchros sermones tuos./ (Ⅴ)

9 ׃23 באזני כסיל אל תדבר כי יבוז לשכל מליך
- Ne parle pas aux oreilles de l'insensé, Car il méprise la sagesse de tes discours. (Ⅱ) - Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words. (Ⅲ) - εἰς ὠ̃τα ἄφρονος μηδὲν λέγε μήποτε μυκτηρίση̨ τοὺς συνετοὺς λόγους σου (Ⅳ) - In auribus insipientium ne loquaris,/ qui despicient doctrinam eloquii tui./ (Ⅴ)

10 ׃23 אל תסג גבול עולם ובשדי יתומים אל תבא
- Ne déplace pas la borne ancienne, Et n'entre pas dans le champ des orphelins; (Ⅱ) - Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless: (Ⅲ) - μὴ μεταθη̨̃ς ὅρια αἰώνια εἰς δὲ κτη̃μα ὀρφανω̃ν μὴ εἰσέλθη̨ς (Ⅳ) - Ne attingas parvulorum terminos,/ et agrum pupillorum ne introëas :/ (Ⅴ)

11 ׃23 כי גאלם חזק הוא יריב את ריבם אתך
- Car leur vengeur est puissant: Il défendra leur cause contre toi. (Ⅱ) - For their redeemer is mighty; he shall plead their cause with thee. (Ⅲ) - ὁ γὰρ λυτρούμενος αὐτοὺς κύριος κραταιός ἐστιν καὶ κρινει̃ τὴν κρίσιν αὐτω̃ν μετὰ σου̃ (Ⅳ) - propinquus enim illorum fortis est,/ et ipse judicabit contra te causam illorum.]\ (Ⅴ)

12 ׃23 הביאה למוסר לבך ואזנך לאמרי דעת
- Ouvre ton coeur à l'instruction, Et tes oreilles aux paroles de la science. (Ⅱ) - Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge. (Ⅲ) - δὸς εἰς παιδείαν τὴν καρδίαν σου τὰ δὲ ὠ̃τά σου ἑτοίμασον λόγοις αἰσθήσεως (Ⅳ) - Ingrediatur ad doctrinam cor tuum,/ et aures tuæ ad verba scientiæ./ (Ⅴ)

13 ׃23 אל תמנע מנער מוסר כי תכנו בשבט לא ימות
- N'épargne pas la correction à l'enfant; Si tu le frappes de la verge, il ne mourra point. (Ⅱ) - Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die. (Ⅲ) - μὴ ἀπόσχη̨ νήπιον παιδεύειν ὅτι ἐὰν πατάξη̨ς αὐτὸν ῥάβδω̨ οὐ μὴ ἀποθάνη̨ (Ⅳ) - Noli subtrahere a puero disciplinam :/ si enim percusseris eum virga, non morietur./ (Ⅴ)

14 ׃23 אתה בשבט תכנו ונפשו משאול תציל
- En le frappant de la verge, Tu délivres son âme du séjour des morts. (Ⅱ) - Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell. (Ⅲ) - σὺ μὲν γὰρ πατάξεις αὐτὸν ῥάβδω̨ τὴν δὲ ψυχὴν αὐτου̃ ἐκ θανάτου ῥύση̨ (Ⅳ) - Tu virga percuties eum,/ et animam ejus de inferno liberabis./ (Ⅴ)

15 ׃23 בני אם חכם לבך ישמח לבי גם אני
- Mon fils, si ton coeur est sage, Mon coeur à moi sera dans la joie; (Ⅱ) - My son, if thine heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine. (Ⅲ) - υἱέ ἐὰν σοφὴ γένηταί σου ἡ καρδία εὐφρανει̃ς καὶ τὴν ἐμὴν καρδίαν (Ⅳ) - Fili mi, si sapiens fuerit animus tuus,/ gaudebit tecum cor meum :/ (Ⅴ)

16 ׃23 ותעלזנה כליותי בדבר שפתיך מישרים
- Mes entrailles seront émues d'allégresse, Quand tes lèvres diront ce qui est droit. (Ⅱ) - Yea, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things. (Ⅲ) - καὶ ἐνδιατρίψει λόγοις τὰ σὰ χείλη πρὸς τὰ ἐμὰ χείλη ἐὰν ὀρθὰ ὠ̃σιν (Ⅳ) - et exsultabunt renes mei,/ cum locuta fuerint rectum labia tua./ (Ⅴ)

17 ׃23 אל יקנא לבך בחטאים כי אם ביראת יהוה כל היום
- Que ton coeur n'envie point les pécheurs, Mais qu'il ait toujours la crainte de l'Éternel; (Ⅱ) - Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long. (Ⅲ) - μὴ ζηλούτω ἡ καρδία σου ἁμαρτωλούς ἀλλὰ ἐν φόβω̨ κυρίου ἴσθι ὅλην τὴν ἡμέραν (Ⅳ) - Non æmuletur cor tuum peccatores,/ sed in timore Domini esto tota die :/ (Ⅴ)

18 ׃23 כי אם יש אחרית ותקותך לא תכרת
- Car il est un avenir, Et ton espérance ne sera pas anéantie. (Ⅱ) - For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off. (Ⅲ) - ἐὰν γὰρ τηρήση̨ς αὐτά ἔσται σοι ἔκγονα ἡ δὲ ἐλπίς σου οὐκ ἀποστήσεται (Ⅳ) - quia habebis spem in novissimo,/ et præstolatio tua non auferetur./ (Ⅴ)

19 ׃23 שמע אתה בני וחכם ואשר בדרך לבך
- Écoute, mon fils, et sois sage; Dirige ton coeur dans la voie droite. (Ⅱ) - Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way. (Ⅲ) - ἄκουε υἱέ καὶ σοφὸς γίνου καὶ κατεύθυνε ἐννοίας ση̃ς καρδίας (Ⅳ) - Audi, fili mi, et esto sapiens,/ et dirige in via animum tuum./ (Ⅴ)

20 ׃23 אל תהי בסבאי יין בזללי בשר למו
- Ne sois pas parmi les buveurs de vin, Parmi ceux qui font excès des viandes: (Ⅱ) - Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh: (Ⅲ) - μὴ ἴσθι οἰνοπότης μηδὲ ἐκτείνου συμβολαι̃ς κρεω̃ν τε ἀγορασμοι̃ς (Ⅳ) - Noli esse in conviviis potatorum,/ nec in comessationibus eorum qui carnes ad vescendum conferunt :/ (Ⅴ)

21 ׃23 כי סבא וזולל יורש וקרעים תלביש נומה
- Car l'ivrogne et celui qui se livre à des excès s'appauvrissent, Et l'assoupissement fait porter des haillons. (Ⅱ) - For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags. (Ⅲ) - πα̃ς γὰρ μέθυσος καὶ πορνοκόπος πτωχεύσει καὶ ἐνδύσεται διερρηγμένα καὶ ῥακώδη πα̃ς ὑπνώδης (Ⅳ) - quia vacantes potibus et dantes symbola consumentur,/ et vestietur pannis dormitatio./ (Ⅴ)

22 ׃23 שמע לאביך זה ילדך ואל תבוז כי זקנה אמך
- Écoute ton père, lui qui t'a engendré, Et ne méprise pas ta mère, quand elle est devenue vieille. (Ⅱ) - Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old. (Ⅲ) - ἄκουε υἱέ πατρὸς του̃ γεννήσαντός σε καὶ μὴ καταφρόνει ὅτι γεγήρακέν σου ἡ μήτηρ (Ⅳ) - Audi patrem tuum, qui genuit te,/ et ne contemnas cum senuerit mater tua./ (Ⅴ)

23 ׃23 אמת קנה ואל תמכר חכמה ומוסר ובינה
- Acquiers la vérité, et ne la vends pas, La sagesse, l'instruction et l'intelligence. (Ⅱ) - Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding. (Ⅲ) - Veritatem eme, et noli vendere sapientiam,/ et doctrinam, et intelligentiam./ (Ⅴ)

24 ׃23 *גול **גיל *יגול **יגיל אבי צדיק *יולד **ויולד חכם *וישמח **ישמח בו
- Le père du juste est dans l'allégresse, Celui qui donne naissance à un sage aura de la joie. (Ⅱ) - The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him. (Ⅲ) - καλω̃ς ἐκτρέφει πατὴρ δίκαιος ἐπὶ δὲ υἱω̨̃ σοφω̨̃ εὐφραίνεται ἡ ψυχὴ αὐτου̃ (Ⅳ) - Exsultat gaudio pater justi ;/ qui sapientem genuit, lætabitur in eo./ (Ⅴ)

25 ׃23 ישמח אביך ואמך ותגל יולדתך
- Que ton père et ta mère se réjouissent, Que celle qui t'a enfanté soit dans l'allégresse! (Ⅱ) - Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice. (Ⅲ) - εὐφραινέσθω ὁ πατὴρ καὶ ἡ μήτηρ ἐπὶ σοί καὶ χαιρέτω ἡ τεκου̃σά σε (Ⅳ) - Gaudeat pater tuus et mater tua,/ et exsultet quæ genuit te./ (Ⅴ)

26 ׃23 תנה בני לבך לי ועיניך דרכי *תרצנה **תצרנה[a]
- Mon fils, donne-moi ton coeur, Et que tes yeux se plaisent dans mes voies. (Ⅱ) - My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways. (Ⅲ) - δός μοι υἱέ σὴν καρδίαν οἱ δὲ σοὶ ὀφθαλμοὶ ἐμὰς ὁδοὺς τηρείτωσαν (Ⅳ) - Præbe, fili mi, cor tuum mihi,/ et oculi tui vias meas custodiant./ (Ⅴ)

27 ׃23 כי שוחה עמקה זונה ובאר צרה נכריה
- Car la prostituée est une fosse profonde, Et l'étrangère un puits étroit. (Ⅱ) - For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit. (Ⅲ) - πίθος γὰρ τετρημένος ἐστὶν ἀλλότριος οἰ̃κος καὶ φρέαρ στενὸν ἀλλότριον (Ⅳ) - Fovea enim profunda est meretrix,/ et puteus angustus aliena./ (Ⅴ)

28 ׃23 אף היא כחתף תארב ובוגדים באדם תוסף
- Elle dresse des embûches comme un brigand, Et elle augmente parmi les hommes le nombre des perfides. (Ⅱ) - She also lieth in wait as for a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men. (Ⅲ) - οὑ̃τος γὰρ συντόμως ἀπολει̃ται καὶ πα̃ς παράνομος ἀναλωθήσεται (Ⅳ) - Insidiatur in via quasi latro,/ et quos incautos viderit, interficiet.]\ (Ⅴ)

29 ׃23 למי אוי למי אבוי למי *מדונים **מדינים למי שיח למי פצעים חנם למי חכללות עינים
- Pour qui les ah? pour qui les hélas? Pour qui les disputes? pour qui les plaintes? Pour qui les blessures sans raison? pour qui les yeux rouges? (Ⅱ) - Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes? (Ⅲ) - τίνι οὐαί τίνι θόρυβος τίνι κρίσις τίνι ἀηδίαι καὶ λέσχαι τίνι συντρίμματα διὰ κενη̃ς τίνος πέλειοι οἱ ὀφθαλμοί (Ⅳ) - Cui væ ? cujus patri væ ?/ cui rixæ ? cui foveæ ?/ cui sine causa vulnera ? cui suffusio oculorum ?/ (Ⅴ)

30 ׃23 למאחרים על היין לבאים לחקר ממסך
- Pour ceux qui s'attardent auprès du vin, Pour ceux qui vont déguster du vin mêlé. (Ⅱ) - They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine. (Ⅲ) - οὐ τω̃ν ἐγχρονιζόντων ἐν οἴνοις οὐ τω̃ν ἰχνευόντων που̃ πότοι γίνονται (Ⅳ) - nonne his qui commorantur in vino,/ et student calicibus epotandis ?/ (Ⅴ)

31 ׃23 אל תרא יין כי יתאדם כי יתן *בכיס **בכוס עינו יתהלך במישרים
- Ne regarde pas le vin qui paraît d'un beau rouge, Qui fait des perles dans la coupe, Et qui coule aisément. (Ⅱ) - Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. (Ⅲ) - μὴ μεθύσκεσθε οἴνω̨ ἀλλὰ ὁμιλει̃τε ἀνθρώποις δικαίοις καὶ ὁμιλει̃τε ἐν περιπάτοις ἐὰν γὰρ εἰς τὰς φιάλας καὶ τὰ ποτήρια δω̨̃ς τοὺς ὀφθαλμούς σου ὕστερον περιπατήσεις γυμνότερος ὑπέρου (Ⅳ) - Ne intuearis vinum quando flavescit,/ cum splenduerit in vitro color ejus :/ ingreditur blande,/ (Ⅴ)

32 ׃23 אחריתו כנחש ישך וכצפעני יפרש
- Il finit par mordre comme un serpent, Et par piquer comme un basilic. (Ⅱ) - At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder. (Ⅲ) - τὸ δὲ ἔσχατον ὥσπερ ὑπὸ ὄφεως πεπληγὼς ἐκτείνεται καὶ ὥσπερ ὑπὸ κεράστου διαχει̃ται αὐτω̨̃ ὁ ἰός (Ⅳ) - sed in novissimo mordebit ut coluber,/ et sicut regulus venena diffundet./ (Ⅴ)

33 ׃23 עיניך יראו זרות ולבך ידבר תהפכות
- Tes yeux se porteront sur des étrangères, Et ton coeur parlera d'une manière perverse. (Ⅱ) - Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things. (Ⅲ) - οἱ ὀφθαλμοί σου ὅταν ἴδωσιν ἀλλοτρίαν τὸ στόμα σου τότε λαλήσει σκολιά (Ⅳ) - Oculi tui videbunt extraneas,/ et cor tuum loquetur perversa./ (Ⅴ)

34 ׃23 והיית כשכב בלב ים וכשכב בראש חבל
- Tu seras comme un homme couché au milieu de la mer, Comme un homme couché sur le sommet d'un mât: (Ⅱ) - Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast. (Ⅲ) - καὶ κατακείση̨ ὥσπερ ἐν καρδία̨ θαλάσσης καὶ ὥσπερ κυβερνήτης ἐν πολλω̨̃ κλύδωνι (Ⅳ) - Et eris sicut dormiens in medio mari,/ et quasi sopitus gubernator, amisso clavo./ (Ⅴ)

35 ׃23 הכוני בל חליתי הלמוני בל ידעתי מתי אקיץ אוסיף אבקשנו עוד
- On m'a frappé,... je n'ai point de mal!... On m'a battu,... je ne sens rien!... Quand me réveillerai-je?... J'en veux encore! (Ⅱ) - They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again. (Ⅲ) - ἐρει̃ς δέ τύπτουσίν με καὶ οὐκ ἐπόνεσα καὶ ἐνέπαιξάν μοι ἐγὼ δὲ οὐκ ἤ̨δειν πότε ὄρθρος ἔσται ἵνα ἐλθὼν ζητήσω μεθ' ὡ̃ν συνελεύσομαι (Ⅳ) - Et dices : Verberaverunt me, sed non dolui ;/ traxerunt me, et ego non sensi./ Quando evigilabo, et rursus vina reperiam ?] (Ⅴ)
