And after five days Ananias the high priest descended with the elders, and with a certain orator named Tertullus, who informed the governor against Paul.
- Cinq jours après, arriva le souverain sacrificateur Ananias, avec des anciens et un orateur nommé Tertulle. Ils portèrent plainte au gouverneur contre Paul. (Ⅱ) - Μετὰ δὲ πέντε ἡμέρας κατέβη ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς Ἁνανίας μετὰ ⸂πρεσβυτέρων τινῶν⸃ καὶ ῥήτορος Τερτύλλου τινός, οἵτινες ἐνεφάνισαν τῷ ἡγεμόνι κατὰ τοῦ Παύλου. (Ⅲ) - Post quinque autem dies descendit princeps sacerdotum Ananias, cum senioribus quibusdam, et Tertullo quodam oratore, qui adierunt præsidem adversus Paulum. (Ⅳ)

And when he was called forth, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, Seeing that by thee we enjoy great quietness, and that very worthy deeds are done unto this nation by thy providence,
- Paul fut appelé, et Tertulle se mit à l'accuser, en ces termes: (Ⅱ) - κληθέντος δὲ αὐτοῦ ἤρξατο κατηγορεῖν ὁ Τέρτυλλος λέγων· Πολλῆς εἰρήνης τυγχάνοντες διὰ σοῦ καὶ ⸀διορθωμάτων γινομένων τῷ ἔθνει τούτῳ διὰ τῆς σῆς προνοίας (Ⅲ) - Et citato Paulo cœpit accusare Tertullus, dicens : Cum in multa pace agamus per te, et multa corrigantur per tuam providentiam, (Ⅳ)

We accept it always, and in all places, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness.
- Très excellent Félix, tu nous fais jouir d'une paix profonde, et cette nation a obtenu de salutaires réformes par tes soins prévoyants; c'est ce que nous reconnaissons en tout et partout avec une entière gratitude. (Ⅱ) - πάντῃ τε καὶ πανταχοῦ ἀποδεχόμεθα, κράτιστε Φῆλιξ, μετὰ πάσης εὐχαριστίας. (Ⅲ) - semper et ubique suscipimus, optime Felix, cum omni gratiarum actione. (Ⅳ)

Notwithstanding, that I be not further tedious unto thee, I pray thee that thou wouldest hear us of thy clemency a few words.
- Mais, pour ne pas te retenir davantage, je te prie d'écouter, dans ta bonté, ce que nous avons à dire en peu de mots. (Ⅱ) - ἵνα δὲ μὴ ἐπὶ πλεῖόν σε ἐγκόπτω, παρακαλῶ ἀκοῦσαί σε ἡμῶν συντόμως τῇ σῇ ἐπιεικείᾳ. (Ⅲ) - Ne diutius autem te protraham, oro, breviter audias nos pro tua clementia. (Ⅳ)

For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes:
- Nous avons trouvé cet homme, qui est une peste, qui excite des divisions parmi tous les Juifs du monde, qui est chef de la secte des Nazaréens, (Ⅱ) - εὑρόντες γὰρ τὸν ἄνδρα τοῦτον λοιμὸν καὶ κινοῦντα ⸀στάσεις πᾶσι τοῖς Ἰουδαίοις τοῖς κατὰ τὴν οἰκουμένην πρωτοστάτην τε τῆς τῶν Ναζωραίων αἱρέσεως, (Ⅲ) - Invenimus hunc hominem pestiferum, et concitantem seditiones omnibus Judæis in universo orbe, et auctorem seditionis sectæ Nazarenorum : (Ⅳ)

Who also hath gone about to profane the temple: whom we took, and would have judged according to our law.
- et qui même a tenté de profaner le temple. Et nous l'avons arrêté. Nous avons voulu le juger selon notre loi; (Ⅱ) - ὃς καὶ τὸ ἱερὸν ἐπείρασεν βεβηλῶσαι, ὃν καὶ ⸀ἐκρατήσαμεν, (Ⅲ) - qui etiam templum violare conatus est, quem et apprehensum voluimus secundum legem nostram judicare. (Ⅳ)

But the chief captain Lysias came upon us, and with great violence took him away out of our hands,

Commanding his accusers to come unto thee: by examining of whom thyself mayest take knowledge of all these things, whereof we accuse him.
- en ordonnant à ses accusateurs de venir devant toi. Tu pourras toi-même, en l'interrogeant, apprendre de lui tout ce dont nous l'accusons. (Ⅱ) - παρ’ οὗ δυνήσῃ αὐτὸς ἀνακρίνας περὶ πάντων τούτων ἐπιγνῶναι ὧν ἡμεῖς κατηγοροῦμεν αὐτοῦ. (Ⅲ) - jubens accusatores ejus ad te venire : a quo poteris ipse judicans, de omnibus istis cognoscere, de quibus nos accusamus eum. (Ⅳ)

And the Jews also assented, saying that these things were so.
- Les Juifs se joignirent à l'accusation, soutenant que les choses étaient ainsi. (Ⅱ) - συνεπέθεντο δὲ καὶ οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι φάσκοντες ταῦτα οὕτως ἔχειν. (Ⅲ) - Adjecerunt autem et Judæi, dicentes hæc ita se habere. (Ⅳ)

Then Paul, after that the governor had beckoned unto him to speak, answered, Forasmuch as I know that thou hast been of many years a judge unto this nation, I do the more cheerfully answer for myself:
- Après que le gouverneur lui eut fait signe de parler, Paul répondit: Sachant que, depuis plusieurs années, tu es juge de cette nation, c'est avec confiance que je prends la parole pour défendre ma cause. (Ⅱ) - Ἀπεκρίθη ⸀τε ὁ Παῦλος νεύσαντος αὐτῷ τοῦ ἡγεμόνος λέγειν· Ἐκ πολλῶν ἐτῶν ὄντα σε κριτὴν τῷ ἔθνει τούτῳ ἐπιστάμενος ⸀εὐθύμως τὰ περὶ ἐμαυτοῦ ἀπολογοῦμαι, (Ⅲ) - Respondit autem Paulus (annuente sibi præside dicere) : Ex multis annis te esse judicem genti huic sciens, bono animo pro me satisfaciam. (Ⅳ)

Because that thou mayest understand, that there are yet but twelve days since I went up to Jerusalem for to worship.
- Il n'y a pas plus de douze jours, tu peux t'en assurer, que je suis monté à Jérusalem pour adorer. (Ⅱ) - δυναμένου σου ⸀ἐπιγνῶναι, ὅτι οὐ πλείους εἰσίν μοι ἡμέραι ⸀δώδεκα ἀφ’ ἧς ἀνέβην προσκυνήσων ⸀εἰς Ἰερουσαλήμ, (Ⅲ) - Potes enim cognoscere quia non plus sunt mihi dies quam duodecim, ex quo ascendi adorare in Jerusalem : (Ⅳ)

And they neither found me in the temple disputing with any man, neither raising up the people, neither in the synagogues, nor in the city:
- On ne m'a trouvé ni dans le temple, ni dans les synagogues, ni dans la ville, disputant avec quelqu'un, ou provoquant un rassemblement séditieux de la foule. (Ⅱ) - καὶ οὔτε ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ εὗρόν με πρός τινα διαλεγόμενον ἢ ⸀ἐπίστασιν ποιοῦντα ὄχλου οὔτε ἐν ταῖς συναγωγαῖς οὔτε κατὰ τὴν πόλιν, (Ⅲ) - et neque in templo invenerunt me cum aliquo disputantem, aut concursum facientem turbæ, neque in synagogis, neque in civitate : (Ⅳ)

Neither can they prove the things whereof they now accuse me.
- Et ils ne sauraient prouver ce dont ils m'accusent maintenant. (Ⅱ) - ⸀οὐδὲ ⸀παραστῆσαι δύνανταί ⸀σοι περὶ ὧν ⸀νυνὶ κατηγοροῦσίν μου. (Ⅲ) - neque probare possunt tibi de quibus nunc me accusant. (Ⅳ)

But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:
- Je t'avoue bien que je sers le Dieu de mes pères selon la voie qu'ils appellent une secte, croyant tout ce qui est écrit dans la loi et dans les prophètes, (Ⅱ) - ὁμολογῶ δὲ τοῦτό σοι ὅτι κατὰ τὴν ὁδὸν ἣν λέγουσιν αἵρεσιν οὕτως λατρεύω τῷ πατρῴῳ θεῷ, πιστεύων πᾶσι τοῖς κατὰ τὸν νόμον καὶ ⸂τοῖς ἐν⸃ τοῖς προφήταις γεγραμμένοις, (Ⅲ) - Confiteor autem hoc tibi, quod secundum sectam quam dicunt hæresim, sic deservio Patri et Deo meo, credens omnibus quæ in lege et prophetis scripta sunt : (Ⅳ)

And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.
- et ayant en Dieu cette espérance, comme ils l'ont eux-mêmes, qu'il y aura une résurrection des justes et des injustes. (Ⅱ) - ἐλπίδα ἔχων εἰς τὸν θεόν, ἣν καὶ αὐτοὶ οὗτοι προσδέχονται, ἀνάστασιν μέλλειν ⸀ἔσεσθαι δικαίων τε καὶ ἀδίκων· (Ⅲ) - spem habens in Deum, quam et hi ipsi exspectant, resurrectionem futuram justorum et iniquorum. (Ⅳ)

And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void to offence toward God, and toward men.
- C'est pourquoi je m'efforce d'avoir constamment une conscience sans reproche devant Dieu et devant les hommes. (Ⅱ) - ἐν τούτῳ ⸀καὶ αὐτὸς ἀσκῶ ἀπρόσκοπον συνείδησιν ⸀ἔχειν πρὸς τὸν θεὸν καὶ τοὺς ἀνθρώπους διὰ παντός. (Ⅲ) - In hoc et ipse studeo sine offendiculo conscientiam habere ad Deum et ad homines semper. (Ⅳ)

Now after many years I came to bring alms to my nation, and offerings.
- Après une absence de plusieurs années, je suis venu pour faire des aumônes à ma nation, et pour présenter des offrandes. (Ⅱ) - δι’ ἐτῶν δὲ πλειόνων ⸂ἐλεημοσύνας ποιήσων εἰς τὸ ἔθνος μου παρεγενόμην⸃ καὶ προσφοράς, (Ⅲ) - Post annos autem plures eleemosynas facturus in gentem meam, veni, et oblationes, et vota, (Ⅳ)

Whereupon certain Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, neither with multitude, nor with tumult.
- C'est alors que quelques Juifs d'Asie m'ont trouvé purifié dans le temple, sans attroupement ni tumulte. (Ⅱ) - ἐν ⸀αἷς εὗρόν με ἡγνισμένον ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ, οὐ μετὰ ὄχλου οὐδὲ μετὰ θορύβου, (Ⅲ) - in quibus invenerunt me purificatum in templo : non cum turba, neque cum tumultu. (Ⅳ)

Who ought to have been here before thee, and object, if they had ought against me.
- C'était à eux de paraître en ta présence et de se porter accusateurs, s'ils avaient quelque chose contre moi. (Ⅱ) - τινὲς δὲ ἀπὸ τῆς Ἀσίας Ἰουδαῖοι, οὓς ⸀ἔδει ἐπὶ σοῦ παρεῖναι καὶ κατηγορεῖν εἴ τι ἔχοιεν πρὸς ⸀ἐμέ, (Ⅲ) - Quidam autem ex Asia Judæi, quos oportebat apud te præsto esse, et accusare si quid haberent adversum me : (Ⅳ)

Or else let these same here say, if they have found any evil doing in me, while I stood before the council,
- Ou bien, que ceux-ci déclarent de quel crime ils m'ont trouvé coupable, lorsque j'ai comparu devant le sanhédrin, (Ⅱ) - ἢ αὐτοὶ οὗτοι εἰπάτωσαν τί ⸀εὗρον ἀδίκημα στάντος μου ἐπὶ τοῦ συνεδρίου (Ⅲ) - aut hi ipsi dicant si quid invenerunt in me iniquitatis cum stem in concilio, (Ⅳ)

Except it be for this one voice, that I cried standing among them, Touching the resurrection of the dead I am called in question by you this day.
- à moins que ce ne soit uniquement de ce cri que j'ai fait entendre au milieu d'eux: C'est à cause de la résurrection des morts que je suis aujourd'hui mis en jugement devant vous. (Ⅱ) - ἢ περὶ μιᾶς ταύτης φωνῆς ἧς ἐκέκραξα ⸂ἐν αὐτοῖς ἑστὼς⸃ ὅτι Περὶ ἀναστάσεως νεκρῶν ἐγὼ κρίνομαι σήμερον ⸀ἐφ’ ὑμῶν. (Ⅲ) - nisi de una hac solummodo voce qua clamavi inter eos stans : Quoniam de resurrectione mortuorum ego judicor hodie a vobis.\ (Ⅳ)

And when Felix heard these things, having more perfect knowledge of that way, he deferred them, and said, When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will know the uttermost of your matter.
- Félix, qui savait assez exactement ce qui concernait cette doctrine, les ajourna, en disant: Quand le tribun Lysias sera venu, j'examinerai votre affaire. (Ⅱ) - ⸂Ἀνεβάλετο δὲ αὐτοὺς ὁ Φῆλιξ⸃, ἀκριβέστερον εἰδὼς τὰ περὶ τῆς ὁδοῦ, ⸀εἴπας· Ὅταν Λυσίας ὁ χιλίαρχος καταβῇ διαγνώσομαι τὰ καθ’ ὑμᾶς· (Ⅲ) - Distulit autem illos Felix, certissime sciens de via hac, dicens : Cum tribunus Lysias descenderit, audiam vos. (Ⅳ)

And he commanded a centurion to keep Paul, and to let him have liberty, and that he should forbid none of his acquaintance to minister or come unto him.
- Et il donna l'ordre au centenier de garder Paul, en lui laissant une certaine liberté, et en n'empêchant aucun des siens de lui rendre des services. (Ⅱ) - ⸀διαταξάμενος τῷ ἑκατοντάρχῃ τηρεῖσθαι ⸀αὐτὸν ἔχειν τε ἄνεσιν καὶ μηδένα κωλύειν τῶν ἰδίων αὐτοῦ ⸀ὑπηρετεῖν αὐτῷ. (Ⅲ) - Jussitque centurioni custodire eum, et habere requiem, nec quemquam de suis prohibere ministrare ei. (Ⅳ)

And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.
- Quelques jours après, Félix vint avec Drusille, sa femme, qui était Juive, et il fit appeler Paul. Il l'entendit sur la foi en Christ. (Ⅱ) - Μετὰ δὲ ἡμέρας τινὰς παραγενόμενος ὁ Φῆλιξ σὺν Δρουσίλλῃ τῇ ⸀ἰδίᾳ γυναικὶ οὔσῃ Ἰουδαίᾳ μετεπέμψατο τὸν Παῦλον καὶ ἤκουσεν αὐτοῦ περὶ τῆς εἰς Χριστὸν ⸀Ἰησοῦν πίστεως. (Ⅲ) - Post aliquot autem dies veniens Felix cum Drusilla uxore sua, quæ erat Judæa, vocavit Paulum, et audivit ab eo fidem quæ est in Christum Jesum. (Ⅳ)

And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.
- Mais, comme Paul discourait sur la justice, sur la tempérance, et sur le jugement à venir, Félix, effrayé, dit: Pour le moment retire-toi; quand j'en trouverai l'occasion, je te rappellerai. (Ⅱ) - διαλεγομένου δὲ αὐτοῦ περὶ δικαιοσύνης καὶ ἐγκρατείας καὶ τοῦ κρίματος τοῦ ⸀μέλλοντος ἔμφοβος γενόμενος ὁ Φῆλιξ ἀπεκρίθη· Τὸ νῦν ἔχον πορεύου, καιρὸν δὲ μεταλαβὼν μετακαλέσομαί σε· (Ⅲ) - Disputante autem illo de justitia, et castitate, et de judicio futuro, tremefactus Felix, respondit : Quod nunc attinet, vade : tempore autem opportuno accersam te : (Ⅳ)

He hoped also that money should have been given him of Paul, that he might loose him: wherefore he sent for him the oftener, and communed with him.
- Il espérait en même temps que Paul lui donnerait de l'argent; aussi l'envoyait-il chercher assez fréquemment, pour s'entretenir avec lui. (Ⅱ) - ἅμα καὶ ἐλπίζων ὅτι χρήματα δοθήσεται αὐτῷ ὑπὸ τοῦ ⸀Παύλου· διὸ καὶ πυκνότερον αὐτὸν μεταπεμπόμενος ὡμίλει αὐτῷ. (Ⅲ) - simul et sperans quod pecunia ei daretur a Paulo, propter quod et frequenter accersens eum, loquebatur cum eo. (Ⅳ)

But after two years Porcius Festus came into Felix' room: and Felix, willing to shew the Jews a pleasure, left Paul bound.
- Deux ans s'écoulèrent ainsi, et Félix eut pour successeur Porcius Festus. Dans le désir de plaire aux Juifs, Félix laissa Paul en prison. (Ⅱ) - Διετίας δὲ πληρωθείσης ἔλαβεν διάδοχον ὁ Φῆλιξ Πόρκιον Φῆστον· θέλων τε ⸀χάριτα καταθέσθαι τοῖς Ἰουδαίοις ὁ Φῆλιξ κατέλιπε τὸν Παῦλον δεδεμένον. (Ⅲ) - Biennio autem expleto, accepit successorem Felix Portium Festum. Volens autem gratiam præstare Judæis Felix, reliquit Paulum vinctum. (Ⅳ)
