Ne sois point sage à tes propres yeux, Crains l'Éternel, et détourne-toi du mal:

Ce sera la santé pour tes muscles, Et un rafraîchissement pour tes os.

Honore l'Éternel avec tes biens, Et avec les prémices de tout ton revenu:

- So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine. Car l'Éternel châtie celui qu'il aime, Comme un père l'enfant qu'il chérit.
- For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth. Car le gain qu'elle procure est préférable à celui de l'argent, Et le profit qu'on en tire vaut mieux que l'or;
- For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. - She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. Ses voies sont des voies agréables, Et tous ses sentiers sont paisibles.
- Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. (Ⅱ) - αἱ ὁδοὶ αὐτη̃ς ὁδοὶ καλαί καὶ πάντες οἱ τρίβοι αὐτη̃ς ἐν εἰρήνη̨ (Ⅲ) - Viæ ejus viæ pulchræ,/ et omnes semitæ illius pacificæ./ (Ⅳ) - 17 ׃3 דרכיה דרכי נעם וכל נתיבותיה שלום (Ⅴ)

Elle est un arbre de vie pour ceux qui la saisissent, Et ceux qui la possèdent sont heureux.
- She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her. (Ⅱ) - ξύλον ζωη̃ς ἐστι πα̃σι τοι̃ς ἀντεχομένοις αὐτη̃ς καὶ τοι̃ς ἐπερειδομένοις ἐπ' αὐτὴν ὡς ἐπὶ κύριον ἀσφαλής (Ⅲ) - Lignum vitæ est his qui apprehenderint eam,/ et qui tenuerit eam beatus./ (Ⅳ) - 18 ׃3 עץ חיים היא למחזיקים בה ותמכיה מאשר פ (Ⅴ)

C'est par la sagesse que l'Éternel a fondé la terre, C'est par l'intelligence qu'il a affermi les cieux;
- The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens. (Ⅱ) - ὁ θεὸς τη̨̃ σοφία̨ ἐθεμελίωσεν τὴν γη̃ν ἡτοίμασεν δὲ οὐρανοὺς ἐν φρονήσει (Ⅲ) - Dominus sapientia fundavit terram ;/ stabilivit cælos prudentia./ (Ⅳ) - 19 ׃3 יהוה בחכמה יסד ארץ כונן שמים בתבונה (Ⅴ)

C'est par sa science que les abîmes se sont ouverts, Et que les nuages distillent la rosée.

- My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion: (Ⅱ) - υἱέ μὴ παραρρυη̨̃ς τήρησον δὲ ἐμὴν βουλὴν καὶ ἔννοιαν (Ⅲ) - Fili mi, ne effluant hæc ab oculis tuis./ Custodi legem atque consilium,/ (Ⅳ) - 21 ׃3 בני אל ילזו מעיניך נצר תשיה ומזמה (Ⅴ)

Elles seront la vie de ton âme, Et l'ornement de ton cou.
- So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck. (Ⅱ) - ἵνα ζήση̨ ἡ ψυχή σου καὶ χάρις ἠ̨̃ περὶ σω̨̃ τραχήλω̨ (Ⅲ) - et erit vita animæ tuæ,/ et gratia faucibus tuis./ (Ⅳ) - 22 ׃3 ויהיו חיים לנפשך וחן לגרגרתיך (Ⅴ)

Alors tu marcheras avec assurance dans ton chemin, Et ton pied ne heurtera pas.
- Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble. (Ⅱ) - ἵνα πορεύη̨ πεποιθὼς ἐν εἰρήνη̨ πάσας τὰς ὁδούς σου ὁ δὲ πούς σου οὐ μὴ προσκόψη̨ (Ⅲ) - Tunc ambulabis fiducialiter in via tua,/ et pes tuus non impinget./ (Ⅳ) - 23 ׃3 אז תלך לבטח דרכך ורגלך לא תגוף (Ⅴ)

Si tu te couches, tu seras sans crainte; Et quand tu seras couché, ton sommeil sera doux.
- When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet. (Ⅱ) - ἐὰν γὰρ κάθη̨ ἄφοβος ἔση̨ ἐὰν δὲ καθεύδη̨ς ἡδέως ὑπνώσεις (Ⅲ) - Si dormieris, non timebis ;/ quiesces, et suavis erit somnus tuus./ (Ⅳ) - 24 ׃3 אם תשכב לא תפחד ושכבת וערבה שנתך (Ⅴ)

Ne redoute ni une terreur soudaine, Ni une attaque de la part des méchants;
- Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh. (Ⅱ) - καὶ οὐ φοβηθήση̨ πτόησιν ἐπελθου̃σαν οὐδὲ ὁρμὰς ἀσεβω̃ν ἐπερχομένας (Ⅲ) - Ne paveas repentino terrore,/ et irruentes tibi potentias impiorum./ (Ⅳ) - 25 ׃3 אל תירא מפחד פתאם ומשאת רשעים כי תבא (Ⅴ)

Car l'Éternel sera ton assurance, Et il préservera ton pied de toute embûche.
- For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken. (Ⅱ) - ὁ γὰρ κύριος ἔσται ἐπὶ πασω̃ν ὁδω̃ν σου καὶ ἐρείσει σὸν πόδα ἵνα μὴ σαλευθη̨̃ς (Ⅲ) - Dominus enim erit in latere tuo,/ et custodiet pedem tuum, ne capiaris.]\ (Ⅳ) - 26 ׃3 כי יהוה יהיה בכסלך ושמר רגלך מלכד (Ⅴ)

Ne refuse pas un bienfait à celui qui y a droit, Quand tu as le pouvoir de l'accorder.
- Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it. (Ⅱ) - μὴ ἀπόσχη̨ εὐ̃ ποιει̃ν ἐνδεη̃ ἡνίκα ἂν ἔχη̨ ἡ χείρ σου βοηθει̃ν (Ⅲ) - Noli prohibere benefacere eum qui potest :/ si vales, et ipse benefac./ (Ⅳ) - 27 ׃3 אל תמנע טוב מבעליו בהיות לאל *ידיך **ידך לעשות (Ⅴ)

Ne dis pas à ton prochain: Va et reviens, Demain je donnerai! quand tu as de quoi donner.
- Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee. (Ⅱ) - μὴ εἴπης ἐπανελθὼν ἐπάνηκε καὶ αὔριον δώσω δυνατου̃ σου ὄντος εὐ̃ ποιει̃ν οὐ γὰρ οἰ̃δας τί τέξεται ἡ ἐπιου̃σα (Ⅲ) - Ne dicas amico tuo : Vade, et revertere : cras dabo tibi :/ cum statim possis dare./ (Ⅳ) - 28 ׃3 אל תאמר *לרעיך **לרעך לך ושוב ומחר אתן ויש אתך (Ⅴ)

Ne médite pas le mal contre ton prochain, Lorsqu'il demeure tranquillement près de toi.
- Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee. (Ⅱ) - μὴ τεκτήνη̨ ἐπὶ σὸν φίλον κακὰ παροικου̃ντα καὶ πεποιθότα ἐπὶ σοί (Ⅲ) - Ne moliaris amico tuo malum,/ cum ille in te habeat fiduciam./ (Ⅳ) - 29 ׃3 אל תחרש על רעך רעה והוא יושב לבטח אתך (Ⅴ)

Ne conteste pas sans motif avec quelqu'un, Lorsqu'il ne t'a point fait de mal.
- Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm. (Ⅱ) - μὴ φιλεχθρήση̨ς πρὸς ἄνθρωπον μάτην μή τι εἰς σὲ ἐργάσηται κακόν (Ⅲ) - Ne contendas adversus hominem frustra,/ cum ipse tibi nihil mali fecerit./ (Ⅳ) - 30 ׃3 אל *תרוב **תריב עם אדם חנם אם לא גמלך רעה (Ⅴ)

Ne porte pas envie à l'homme violent, Et ne choisis aucune de ses voies.

Car l'Éternel a en horreur les hommes pervers, Mais il est un ami pour les hommes droits;
- For the froward is abomination to the LORD: but his secret is with the righteous. (Ⅱ) - ἀκάθαρτος γὰρ ἔναντι κυρίου πα̃ς παράνομος ἐν δὲ δικαίοις οὐ συνεδριάζει (Ⅲ) - quia abominatio Domini est omnis illusor,/ et cum simplicibus sermocinatio ejus./ (Ⅳ) - 32 ׃3 כי תועבת יהוה נלוז ואת ישרים סודו (Ⅴ)

La malédiction de l'Éternel est dans la maison du méchant, Mais il bénit la demeure des justes;
- The curse of the LORD is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just. (Ⅱ) - κατάρα θεου̃ ἐν οἴκοις ἀσεβω̃ν ἐπαύλεις δὲ δικαίων εὐλογου̃νται (Ⅲ) - Egestas a Domino in domo impii ;/ habitacula autem justorum benedicentur./ (Ⅳ) - 33 ׃3 מארת יהוה בבית רשע ונוה צדיקים יברך (Ⅴ)

Il se moque des moqueurs, Mais il fait grâce aux humbles;
- Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly. (Ⅱ) - κύριος ὑπερηφάνοις ἀντιτάσσεται ταπεινοι̃ς δὲ δίδωσιν χάριν (Ⅲ) - Ipse deludet illusores,/ et mansuetis dabit gratiam./ (Ⅳ) - 34 ׃3 אם ללצים הוא יליץ *ולעניים **ולענוים יתן חן (Ⅴ)

Les sages hériteront la gloire, Mais les insensés ont la honte en partage.
