In diebus autem illis venit Joannes Baptista prædicans in deserto Judææ,
- En ce temps-là parut Jean Baptiste, prêchant dans le désert de Judée. (Ⅱ) - In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, (Ⅲ) - Ἐν δὲ ταῖς ἡμέραις ἐκείναις παραγίνεται Ἰωάννης ὁ βαπτιστὴς κηρύσσων ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ τῆς Ἰουδαίας (Ⅳ)

et dicens : Pœnitentiam agite : appropinquavit enim regnum cælorum.
- Il disait: Repentez-vous, car le royaume des cieux est proche. (Ⅱ) - And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. (Ⅲ) - ⸀καὶ λέγων· Μετανοεῖτε, ἤγγικεν γὰρ ἡ βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν. (Ⅳ)

Hic est enim, qui dictus est per Isaiam prophetam dicentem : [Vox clamantis in deserto :/ Parate viam Domini ;/ rectas facite semitas ejus.]
- Jean est celui qui avait été annoncé par Ésaïe, le prophète, lorsqu'il dit: C'est ici la voix de celui qui crie dans le désert: Préparez le chemin du Seigneur, Aplanissez ses sentiers. (Ⅱ) - For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. (Ⅲ) - οὗτος γάρ ἐστιν ὁ ῥηθεὶς ⸀διὰ Ἠσαΐου τοῦ προφήτου λέγοντος· Φωνὴ βοῶντος ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ· Ἑτοιμάσατε τὴν ὁδὸν κυρίου, εὐθείας ποιεῖτε τὰς τρίβους αὐτοῦ. (Ⅳ)

Ipse autem Joannes habebat vestimentum de pilis camelorum, et zonam pelliceam circa lumbos suos : esca autem ejus erat locustæ, et mel silvestre.
- Jean avait un vêtement de poils de chameau, et une ceinture de cuir autour des reins. Il se nourrissait de sauterelles et de miel sauvage. (Ⅱ) - And the same John had his raiment of camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey. (Ⅲ) - αὐτὸς δὲ ὁ Ἰωάννης εἶχεν τὸ ἔνδυμα αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ τριχῶν καμήλου καὶ ζώνην δερματίνην περὶ τὴν ὀσφὺν αὐτοῦ, ἡ δὲ τροφὴ ⸂ἦν αὐτοῦ⸃ ἀκρίδες καὶ μέλι ἄγριον. (Ⅳ)

Tunc exibat ad eum Jerosolyma, et omnis Judæa, et omnis regio circa Jordanem ;
- Les habitants de Jérusalem, de toute la Judée et de tout le pays des environs du Jourdain, se rendaient auprès de lui; (Ⅱ) - Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan, (Ⅲ) - τότε ἐξεπορεύετο πρὸς αὐτὸν Ἱεροσόλυμα καὶ πᾶσα ἡ Ἰουδαία καὶ πᾶσα ἡ περίχωρος τοῦ Ἰορδάνου, (Ⅳ)

et baptizabantur ab eo in Jordane, confitentes peccata sua.
- et, confessant leurs péchés, ils se faisaient baptiser par lui dans le fleuve du Jourdain. (Ⅱ) - And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins. (Ⅲ) - καὶ ἐβαπτίζοντο ἐν τῷ Ἰορδάνῃ ⸀ποταμῷ ὑπ’ αὐτοῦ ἐξομολογούμενοι τὰς ἁμαρτίας αὐτῶν. (Ⅳ)

Videns autem multos pharisæorum, et sadducæorum, venientes ad baptismum suum, dixit eis : Progenies viperarum, quis demonstravit vobis fugere a ventura ira ?
- Mais, voyant venir à son baptême beaucoup de pharisiens et de sadducéens, il leur dit: Races de vipères, qui vous a appris à fuir la colère à venir? (Ⅱ) - But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? (Ⅲ) - Ἰδὼν δὲ πολλοὺς τῶν Φαρισαίων καὶ Σαδδουκαίων ἐρχομένους ἐπὶ τὸ βάπτισμα ⸀αὐτοῦ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Γεννήματα ἐχιδνῶν, τίς ὑπέδειξεν ὑμῖν φυγεῖν ἀπὸ τῆς μελλούσης ὀργῆς; (Ⅳ)

Facite ergo fructum dignum pœnitentiæ.
- Produisez donc du fruit digne de la repentance, (Ⅱ) - Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance: (Ⅲ) - ποιήσατε οὖν καρπὸν ἄξιον τῆς μετανοίας (Ⅳ)

Et ne velitis dicere intra vos : Patrem habemus Abraham. Dico enim vobis quoniam potens est Deus de lapidibus istis suscitare filios Abrahæ.
- et ne prétendez pas dire en vous-mêmes: Nous avons Abraham pour père! Car je vous déclare que de ces pierres-ci Dieu peut susciter des enfants à Abraham. (Ⅱ) - And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. (Ⅲ) - καὶ μὴ δόξητε λέγειν ἐν ἑαυτοῖς· Πατέρα ἔχομεν τὸν Ἀβραάμ, λέγω γὰρ ὑμῖν ὅτι δύναται ὁ θεὸς ἐκ τῶν λίθων τούτων ἐγεῖραι τέκνα τῷ Ἀβραάμ. (Ⅳ)

Jam enim securis ad radicem arborum posita est. Omnis ergo arbor, quæ non facit fructum bonum, excidetur, et in ignem mittetur.
- Déjà la cognée est mise à la racine des arbres: tout arbre donc qui ne produit pas de bons fruits sera coupé et jeté au feu. (Ⅱ) - And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. (Ⅲ) - ἤδη ⸀δὲ ἡ ἀξίνη πρὸς τὴν ῥίζαν τῶν δένδρων κεῖται· πᾶν οὖν δένδρον μὴ ποιοῦν καρπὸν καλὸν ἐκκόπτεται καὶ εἰς πῦρ βάλλεται. (Ⅳ)

Ego quidem baptizo vos in aqua in pœnitentiam : qui autem post me venturus est, fortior me est, cujus non sum dignus calceamenta portare : ipse vos baptizabit in Spiritu Sancto, et igni.
- Moi, je vous baptise d'eau, pour vous amener à la repentance; mais celui qui vient après moi est plus puissant que moi, et je ne suis pas digne de porter ses souliers. Lui, il vous baptisera du Saint Esprit et de feu. (Ⅱ) - I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: (Ⅲ) - Ἐγὼ μὲν ⸂ὑμᾶς βαπτίζω⸃ ἐν ὕδατι εἰς μετάνοιαν· ὁ δὲ ὀπίσω μου ἐρχόμενος ἰσχυρότερός μού ἐστιν, οὗ οὐκ εἰμὶ ἱκανὸς τὰ ὑποδήματα βαστάσαι· αὐτὸς ὑμᾶς βαπτίσει ἐν πνεύματι ἁγίῳ ⸂καὶ πυρί⸃· (Ⅳ)

Cujus ventilabrum in manu sua : et permundabit aream suam : et congregabit triticum suum in horreum, paleas autem comburet igni inextinguibili.\
- Il a son van à la main; il nettoiera son aire, et il amassera son blé dans le grenier, mais il brûlera la paille dans un feu qui ne s'éteint point. (Ⅱ) - Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire. (Ⅲ) - οὗ τὸ πτύον ἐν τῇ χειρὶ αὐτοῦ, καὶ διακαθαριεῖ τὴν ἅλωνα αὐτοῦ καὶ συνάξει τὸν σῖτον αὐτοῦ εἰς τὴν ⸀ἀποθήκην, τὸ δὲ ἄχυρον κατακαύσει πυρὶ ἀσβέστῳ. (Ⅳ)

Tunc venit Jesus a Galilæa in Jordanem ad Joannem, ut baptizaretur ab eo.
- Alors Jésus vint de la Galilée au Jourdain vers Jean, pour être baptisé par lui. (Ⅱ) - Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. (Ⅲ) - Τότε παραγίνεται ὁ Ἰησοῦς ἀπὸ τῆς Γαλιλαίας ἐπὶ τὸν Ἰορδάνην πρὸς τὸν Ἰωάννην τοῦ βαπτισθῆναι ὑπ’ αὐτοῦ. (Ⅳ)

Joannes autem prohibebat eum, dicens : Ego a te debeo baptizari, et tu venis ad me ?
- Mais Jean s'y opposait, en disant: C'est moi qui ai besoin d'être baptisé par toi, et tu viens à moi! (Ⅱ) - But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? (Ⅲ) - ὁ δὲ ⸀Ἰωάννης διεκώλυεν αὐτὸν λέγων· Ἐγὼ χρείαν ἔχω ὑπὸ σοῦ βαπτισθῆναι, καὶ σὺ ἔρχῃ πρός με; (Ⅳ)

Respondens autem Jesus, dixit ei : Sine modo : sic enim decet nos implere omnem justitiam. Tunc dimisit eum.
- Jésus lui répondit: Laisse faire maintenant, car il est convenable que nous accomplissions ainsi tout ce qui est juste. Et Jean ne lui résista plus. (Ⅱ) - And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him. (Ⅲ) - ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν ⸂πρὸς αὐτόν⸃· Ἄφες ἄρτι, οὕτως γὰρ πρέπον ἐστὶν ἡμῖν πληρῶσαι πᾶσαν δικαιοσύνην. τότε ἀφίησιν αὐτόν. (Ⅳ)

Baptizatus autem Jesus, confestim ascendit de aqua, et ecce aperti sunt ei cæli : et vidit Spiritum Dei descendentem sicut columbam, et venientem super se.
- Dès que Jésus eut été baptisé, il sortit de l'eau. Et voici, les cieux s'ouvrirent, et il vit l'Esprit de Dieu descendre comme une colombe et venir sur lui. (Ⅱ) - And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: (Ⅲ) - ⸂βαπτισθεὶς δὲ⸃ ὁ Ἰησοῦς ⸂εὐθὺς ἀνέβη⸃ ἀπὸ τοῦ ὕδατος· καὶ ἰδοὺ ⸀ἠνεῴχθησαν οἱ οὐρανοί, καὶ εἶδεν ⸀πνεῦμα θεοῦ καταβαῖνον ὡσεὶ ⸀περιστερὰν ἐρχόμενον ἐπ’ αὐτόν· (Ⅳ)

Et ecce vox de cælis dicens : Hic est Filius meus dilectus, in quo mihi complacui.
- Et voici, une voix fit entendre des cieux ces paroles: Celui-ci est mon Fils bien-aimé, en qui j'ai mis toute mon affection. (Ⅱ) - And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. (Ⅲ) - καὶ ἰδοὺ φωνὴ ἐκ τῶν οὐρανῶν λέγουσα· Οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ υἱός μου ὁ ἀγαπητός, ἐν ᾧ εὐδόκησα. (Ⅳ)
