Jacob quoque abiit itinere quo cœperat : fueruntque ei obviam angeli Dei.
- Jacob poursuivit son chemin; et des anges de Dieu le rencontrèrent. (Ⅱ) - And Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him. (Ⅲ) - καὶ Ιακωβ ἀπη̃λθεν εἰς τὴν ἑαυτου̃ ὁδόν καὶ ἀναβλέψας εἰ̃δεν παρεμβολὴν θεου̃ παρεμβεβληκυι̃αν καὶ συνήντησαν αὐτω̨̃ οἱ ἄγγελοι του̃ θεου̃ (Ⅳ) - 2 ׃32 ויעקב הלך לדרכו ויפגעו בו מלאכי אלהים (Ⅴ)

Quos cum vidisset, ait : Castra Dei sunt hæc : et appellavit nomen loci illius Mahanaim, id est, Castra.
- En les voyant, Jacob dit: C'est le camp de Dieu! Et il donna à ce lieu le nom de Mahanaïm. (Ⅱ) - And when Jacob saw them, he said, This is God's host: and he called the name of that place Mahanaim. (Ⅲ) - εἰ̃πεν δὲ Ιακωβ ἡνίκα εἰ̃δεν αὐτούς Παρεμβολὴ θεου̃ αὕτη καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα του̃ τόπου ἐκείνου Παρεμβολαί (Ⅳ) - 3 ׃32 ויאמר יעקב כאשר ראם מחנה אלהים זה ויקרא שם המקום ההוא מחנים פ (Ⅴ)

Misit autem et nuntios ante se ad Esau fratrem suum in terram Seir, in regionem Edom :
- Jacob envoya devant lui des messagers à Ésaü, son frère, au pays de Séir, dans le territoire d'Édom. (Ⅱ) - And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother unto the land of Seir, the country of Edom. (Ⅲ) - ἀπέστειλεν δὲ Ιακωβ ἀγγέλους ἔμπροσθεν αὐτου̃ πρὸς Ησαυ τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτου̃ εἰς γη̃ν Σηιρ εἰς χώραν Εδωμ (Ⅳ) - 4 ׃32 וישלח יעקב מלאכים לפניו אל עשו אחיו ארצה שעיר שדה אדום (Ⅴ)

præcepitque eis, dicens : Sic loquimini domino meo Esau : Hæc dicit frater tuus Jacob : Apud Laban peregrinatus sum, et fui usque in præsentem diem.
- Il leur donna cet ordre: Voici ce que vous direz à mon seigneur Ésaü: Ainsi parle ton serviteur Jacob: J'ai séjourné chez Laban, et j'y suis resté jusqu'à présent; (Ⅱ) - And he commanded them, saying, Thus shall ye speak unto my lord Esau; Thy servant Jacob saith thus, I have sojourned with Laban, and stayed there until now: (Ⅲ) - καὶ ἐνετείλατο αὐτοι̃ς λέγων οὕτως ἐρει̃τε τω̨̃ κυρίω̨ μου Ησαυ οὕτως λέγει ὁ παι̃ς σου Ιακωβ μετὰ Λαβαν παρώ̨κησα καὶ ἐχρόνισα ἕως του̃ νυ̃ν (Ⅳ) - 5 ׃32 ויצו אתם לאמר כה תאמרון לאדני לעשו כה אמר עבדך יעקב עם לבן גרתי ואחר עד עתה (Ⅴ)

Habeo boves, et asinos, et oves, et servos, et ancillas : mittoque nunc legationem ad dominum meum, ut inveniam gratiam in conspectu tuo.
- j'ai des boeufs, des ânes, des brebis, des serviteurs et des servantes, et j'envoie l'annoncer à mon seigneur, pour trouver grâce à tes yeux. (Ⅱ) - And I have oxen, and asses, flocks, and menservants, and womenservants: and I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find grace in thy sight. (Ⅲ) - καὶ ἐγένοντό μοι βόες καὶ ὄνοι καὶ πρόβατα καὶ παι̃δες καὶ παιδίσκαι καὶ ἀπέστειλα ἀναγγει̃λαι τω̨̃ κυρίω̨ μου Ησαυ ἵνα εὕρη̨ ὁ παι̃ς σου χάριν ἐναντίον σου (Ⅳ) - 6 ׃32 ויהי לי שור וחמור צאן ועבד ושפחה ואשלחה להגיד לאדני למצא חן בעיניך (Ⅴ)

Reversique sunt nuntii ad Jacob, dicentes : Venimus ad Esau fratrem tuum, et ecce properat tibi in occursum cum quadringentis viris.
- Les messagers revinrent auprès de Jacob, en disant: Nous sommes allés vers ton frère Ésaü; et il marche à ta rencontre, avec quatre cents hommes. (Ⅱ) - And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, We came to thy brother Esau, and also he cometh to meet thee, and four hundred men with him. (Ⅲ) - καὶ ἀνέστρεψαν οἱ ἄγγελοι πρὸς Ιακωβ λέγοντες ἤλθομεν πρὸς τὸν ἀδελφόν σου Ησαυ καὶ ἰδοὺ αὐτὸς ἔρχεται εἰς συνάντησίν σοι καὶ τετρακόσιοι ἄνδρες μετ' αὐτου̃ (Ⅳ) - 7 ׃32 וישבו המלאכים אל יעקב לאמר באנו אל אחיך אל עשו וגם הלך לקראתך וארבע מאות איש עמו (Ⅴ)

Timuit Jacob valde : et perterritus divisit populum qui secum erat, greges quoque et oves, et boves, et camelos, in duas turmas,
- Jacob fut très effrayé, et saisi d'angoisse. Il partagea en deux camps les gens qui étaient avec lui, les brebis, les boeufs et les chameaux; (Ⅱ) - Then Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed: and he divided the people that was with him, and the flocks, and herds, and the camels, into two bands; (Ⅲ) - ἐφοβήθη δὲ Ιακωβ σφόδρα καὶ ἠπορει̃το καὶ διει̃λεν τὸν λαὸν τὸν μετ' αὐτου̃ καὶ τοὺς βόας καὶ τὰ πρόβατα εἰς δύο παρεμβολάς (Ⅳ) - 8 ׃32 ויירא יעקב מאד ויצר לו ויחץ את העם אשר אתו ואת הצאן ואת הבקר והגמלים לשני מחנות (Ⅴ)

dicens : Si venerit Esau ad unam turmam, et percusserit eam, alia turma, quæ relicta est, salvabitur.
- et il dit: Si Ésaü vient contre l'un des camps et le bat, le camp qui restera pourra se sauver. (Ⅱ) - And said, If Esau come to the one company, and smite it, then the other company which is left shall escape. (Ⅲ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν Ιακωβ ἐὰν ἔλθη̨ Ησαυ εἰς παρεμβολὴν μίαν καὶ ἐκκόψη̨ αὐτήν ἔσται ἡ παρεμβολὴ ἡ δευτέρα εἰς τὸ σώ̨ζεσθαι (Ⅳ) - 9 ׃32 ויאמר אם יבוא עשו אל המחנה האחת והכהו והיה המחנה הנשאר לפליטה (Ⅴ)

Dixitque Jacob : Deus patris mei Abraham, et Deus patris mei Isaac : Domine qui dixisti mihi : Revertere in terram tuam, et in locum nativitatis tuæ, et benefaciam tibi :
- Jacob dit: Dieu de mon père Abraham, Dieu de mon père Isaac, Éternel, qui m'as dit: Retourne dans ton pays et dans ton lieu de naissance, et je te ferai du bien! (Ⅱ) - And Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, the LORD which saidst unto me, Return unto thy country, and to thy kindred, and I will deal well with thee: (Ⅲ) - εἰ̃πεν δὲ Ιακωβ ὁ θεὸς του̃ πατρός μου Αβρααμ καὶ ὁ θεὸς του̃ πατρός μου Ισαακ κύριε ὁ εἴπας μοι ἀπότρεχε εἰς τὴν γη̃ν τη̃ς γενέσεώς σου καὶ εὐ̃ σε ποιήσω (Ⅳ) - 10 ׃32 ויאמר יעקב אלהי אבי אברהם ואלהי אבי יצחק יהוה האמר אלי שוב לארצך ולמולדתך ואיטיבה עמך (Ⅴ)

minor sum cunctis miserationibus tuis, et veritate tua quam explevisti servo tuo. In baculo meo transivi Jordanem istum : et nunc cum duabus turmis regredior.
- Je suis trop petit pour toutes les grâces et pour toute la fidélité dont tu as usé envers ton serviteur; car j'ai passé ce Jourdain avec mon bâton, et maintenant je forme deux camps. (Ⅱ) - I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and of all the truth, which thou hast showed unto thy servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I am become two bands. (Ⅲ) - ἱκανου̃ταί μοι ἀπὸ πάσης δικαιοσύνης καὶ ἀπὸ πάσης ἀληθείας ἡ̃ς ἐποίησας τω̨̃ παιδί σου ἐν γὰρ τη̨̃ ῥάβδω̨ μου διέβην τὸν Ιορδάνην του̃τον νυ̃ν δὲ γέγονα εἰς δύο παρεμβολάς (Ⅳ) - 11 ׃32 קטנתי מכל החסדים ומכל האמת אשר עשית את עבדך כי במקלי עברתי את הירדן הזה ועתה הייתי לשני מחנות (Ⅴ)

Erue me de manu fratris mei Esau, quia valde eum timeo : ne forte veniens percutiat matrem cum filiis.
- Délivre-moi, je te prie, de la main de mon frère, de la main d'Ésaü! car je crains qu'il ne vienne, et qu'il ne me frappe, avec la mère et les enfants. (Ⅱ) - Deliver me, I pray thee, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau: for I fear him, lest he will come and smite me, and the mother with the children. (Ⅲ) - ἐξελου̃ με ἐκ χειρὸς του̃ ἀδελφου̃ μου Ησαυ ὅτι φοβου̃μαι ἐγὼ αὐτόν μήποτε ἐλθὼν πατάξη̨ με καὶ μητέρα ἐπὶ τέκνοις (Ⅳ) - 12 ׃32 הצילני נא מיד אחי מיד עשו כי ירא אנכי אתו פן יבוא והכני אם על בנים (Ⅴ)

Tu locutus es quod benefaceres mihi, et dilatares semen meum sicut arenam maris, quæ præ multitudine numerari non potest.
- Et toi, tu as dit: Je te ferai du bien, et je rendrai ta postérité comme le sable de la mer, si abondant qu'on ne saurait le compter. (Ⅱ) - And thou saidst, I will surely do thee good, and make thy seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude. (Ⅲ) - σὺ δὲ εἰ̃πας καλω̃ς εὐ̃ σε ποιήσω καὶ θήσω τὸ σπέρμα σου ὡς τὴν ἄμμον τη̃ς θαλάσσης ἣ οὐκ ἀριθμηθήσεται ἀπὸ του̃ πλήθους (Ⅳ) - 13 ׃32 ואתה אמרת היטב איטיב עמך ושמתי את זרעך כחול הים אשר לא יספר מרב (Ⅴ)

Cumque dormisset ibi nocte illa, separavit de his quæ habebat, munera Esau fratri suo,
- C'est dans ce lieu-là que Jacob passa la nuit. Il prit de ce qu'il avait sous la main, pour faire un présent à Ésaü, son frère: (Ⅱ) - And he lodged there that same night; and took of that which came to his hand a present for Esau his brother; (Ⅲ) - καὶ ἐκοιμήθη ἐκει̃ τὴν νύκτα ἐκείνην καὶ ἔλαβεν ὡ̃ν ἔφερεν δω̃ρα καὶ ἐξαπέστειλεν Ησαυ τω̨̃ ἀδελφω̨̃ αὐτου̃ (Ⅳ) - 14 ׃32 וילן שם בלילה ההוא ויקח מן הבא בידו מנחה לעשו אחיו (Ⅴ)

- deux cents chèvres et vingt boucs, deux cents brebis et vingt béliers, (Ⅱ) - Two hundred she goats, and twenty he goats, two hundred ewes, and twenty rams, (Ⅲ) - αἰ̃γας διακοσίας τράγους εἴκοσι πρόβατα διακόσια κριοὺς εἴκοσι (Ⅳ) - 15 ׃32 עזים מאתים ותישים עשרים רחלים מאתים ואילים עשרים (Ⅴ)

camelos fœtas cum pullis suis triginta, vaccas quadraginta, et tauros viginti, asinas viginti et pullos earum decem.
- trente femelles de chameaux avec leurs petits qu'elles allaitaient, quarante vaches et dix taureaux, vingt ânesses et dix ânes. (Ⅱ) - Thirty milch camels with their colts, forty kine, and ten bulls, twenty she asses, and ten foals. (Ⅲ) - καμήλους θηλαζούσας καὶ τὰ παιδία αὐτω̃ν τριάκοντα βόας τεσσαράκοντα ταύρους δέκα ὄνους εἴκοσι καὶ πώλους δέκα (Ⅳ) - 16 ׃32 גמלים מיניקות ובניהם שלשים פרות ארבעים ופרים עשרה אתנת עשרים ועירם[1] עשרה (Ⅴ)

Et misit per manus servorum suorum singulos seorsum greges, dixitque pueris suis : Antecedite me, et sit spatium inter gregem et gregem.
- Il les remit à ses serviteurs, troupeau par troupeau séparément, et il dit à ses serviteurs: Passez devant moi, et mettez un intervalle entre chaque troupeau. (Ⅱ) - And he delivered them into the hand of his servants, every drove by themselves; and said unto his servants, Pass over before me, and put a space betwixt drove and drove. (Ⅲ) - καὶ ἔδωκεν διὰ χειρὸς τοι̃ς παισὶν αὐτου̃ ποίμνιον κατὰ μόνας εἰ̃πεν δὲ τοι̃ς παισὶν αὐτου̃ προπορεύεσθε ἔμπροσθέν μου καὶ διάστημα ποιει̃τε ἀνὰ μέσον ποίμνης καὶ ποίμνης (Ⅳ) - 17 ׃32 ויתן ביד עבדיו עדר עדר לבדו ויאמר אל עבדיו עברו לפני ורוח תשימו בין עדר ובין עדר (Ⅴ)

Et præcepit priori, dicens : Si obvium habueris fratrem meum Esau, et interrogaverit te : Cujus es ? aut, Quo vadis ? aut, Cujus sunt ista quæ sequeris ?
- Il donna cet ordre au premier: Quand Ésaü, mon frère, te rencontrera, et te demandera: A qui es-tu? où vas-tu? et à qui appartient ce troupeau devant toi? (Ⅱ) - And he commanded the foremost, saying, When Esau my brother meeteth thee, and asketh thee, saying, Whose art thou? and whither goest thou? and whose are these before thee? (Ⅲ) - καὶ ἐνετείλατο τω̨̃ πρώτω̨ λέγων ἐάν σοι συναντήση̨ Ησαυ ὁ ἀδελφός μου καὶ ἐρωτα̨̃ σε λέγων τίνος εἰ̃ καὶ που̃ πορεύη̨ καὶ τίνος ταυ̃τα τὰ προπορευόμενά σου (Ⅳ) - 18 ׃32 ויצו את הראשון לאמר כי יפגשך[1] עשו אחי ושאלך[1] לאמר למי אתה ואנה תלך ולמי אלה לפניך (Ⅴ)

respondebis : Servi tui Jacob, munera misit domino meo Esau, ipse quoque post nos venit.
- tu répondras: A ton serviteur Jacob; c'est un présent envoyé à mon seigneur Ésaü; et voici, il vient lui-même derrière nous. (Ⅱ) - Then thou shalt say, They be thy servant Jacob's; it is a present sent unto my lord Esau: and, behold, also he is behind us. (Ⅲ) - ἐρει̃ς του̃ παιδός σου Ιακωβ δω̃ρα ἀπέσταλκεν τω̨̃ κυρίω̨ μου Ησαυ καὶ ἰδοὺ αὐτὸς ὀπίσω ἡμω̃ν (Ⅳ) - 19 ׃32 ואמרת לעבדך ליעקב מנחה הוא שלוחה לאדני לעשו והנה גם הוא אחרינו (Ⅴ)

Similiter dedit mandata secundo, et tertio, et cunctis qui sequebantur greges, dicens : Iisdem verbis loquimini ad Esau cum inveneritis eum.
- Il donna le même ordre au second, au troisième, et à tous ceux qui suivaient les troupeaux: C'est ainsi que vous parlerez à mon seigneur Ésaü, quand vous le rencontrerez. (Ⅱ) - And so commanded he the second, and the third, and all that followed the droves, saying, On this manner shall ye speak unto Esau, when ye find him. (Ⅲ) - καὶ ἐνετείλατο τω̨̃ πρώτω̨ καὶ τω̨̃ δευτέρω̨ καὶ τω̨̃ τρίτω̨ καὶ πα̃σι τοι̃ς προπορευομένοις ὀπίσω τω̃ν ποιμνίων τούτων λέγων κατὰ τὸ ῥη̃μα του̃το λαλήσατε Ησαυ ἐν τω̨̃ εὑρει̃ν ὑμα̃ς αὐτὸν (Ⅳ) - 20 ׃32 ויצו גם את השני גם את השלישי גם את כל ההלכים אחרי העדרים לאמר כדבר הזה תדברון אל עשו במצאכם אתו (Ⅴ)

Et addetis : Ipse quoque servus tuus Jacob iter nostrum insequitur. Dixit enim : Placabo illum muneribus quæ præcedunt, et postea videbo illum : forsitan propitiabitur mihi.
- Vous direz: Voici, ton serviteur Jacob vient aussi derrière nous. Car il se disait: Je l'apaiserai par ce présent qui va devant moi; ensuite je le verrai en face, et peut-être m'accueillera-t-il favorablement. (Ⅱ) - And say ye moreover, Behold, thy servant Jacob is behind us. For he said, I will appease him with the present that goeth before me, and afterward I will see his face; peradventure he will accept of me. (Ⅲ) - καὶ ἐρει̃τε ἰδοὺ ὁ παι̃ς σου Ιακωβ παραγίνεται ὀπίσω ἡμω̃ν εἰ̃πεν γάρ ἐξιλάσομαι τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτου̃ ἐν τοι̃ς δώροις τοι̃ς προπορευομένοις αὐτου̃ καὶ μετὰ του̃το ὄψομαι τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτου̃ ἴσως γὰρ προσδέξεται τὸ πρόσωπόν μου (Ⅳ) - 21 ׃32 ואמרתם גם הנה עבדך יעקב אחרינו כי אמר אכפרה פניו במנחה ההלכת לפני ואחרי כן אראה פניו אולי ישא פני (Ⅴ)

Præcesserunt itaque munera ante eum, ipse vero mansit nocte illa in castris.\
- Le présent passa devant lui; et il resta cette nuit-là dans le camp. (Ⅱ) - So went the present over before him: and himself lodged that night in the company. (Ⅲ) - καὶ παρεπορεύοντο τὰ δω̃ρα κατὰ πρόσωπον αὐτου̃ αὐτὸς δὲ ἐκοιμήθη τὴν νύκτα ἐκείνην ἐν τη̨̃ παρεμβολη̨̃ (Ⅳ) - 22 ׃32 ותעבר המנחה על פניו והוא לן בלילה ההוא במחנה (Ⅴ)

Cumque mature surrexisset, tulit duas uxores suas, et totidem famulas cum undecim filiis, et transivit vadum Jaboc.
- Il se leva la même nuit, prit ses deux femmes, ses deux servantes, et ses onze enfants, et passa le gué de Jabbok. (Ⅱ) - And he rose up that night, and took his two wives, and his two womenservants, and his eleven sons, and passed over the ford Jabbok. (Ⅲ) - ἀναστὰς δὲ τὴν νύκτα ἐκείνην ἔλαβεν τὰς δύο γυναι̃κας καὶ τὰς δύο παιδίσκας καὶ τὰ ἕνδεκα παιδία αὐτου̃ καὶ διέβη τὴν διάβασιν του̃ Ιαβοκ (Ⅳ) - 23 ׃32 ויקם בלילה הוא ויקח את שתי נשיו ואת שתי שפחתיו ואת אחד עשר ילדיו ויעבר את מעבר יבק (Ⅴ)

Traductisque omnibus quæ ad se pertinebant,
- Il les prit, leur fit passer le torrent, et le fit passer à tout ce qui lui appartenait. (Ⅱ) - And he took them, and sent them over the brook, and sent over that he had. (Ⅲ) - καὶ ἔλαβεν αὐτοὺς καὶ διέβη τὸν χειμάρρουν καὶ διεβίβασεν πάντα τὰ αὐτου̃ (Ⅳ) - 24 ׃32 ויקחם ויעברם את הנחל ויעבר את אשר לו[1] (Ⅴ)

mansit solus : et ecce vir luctabatur cum eo usque mane.
- Jacob demeura seul. Alors un homme lutta avec lui jusqu'au lever de l'aurore. (Ⅱ) - And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. (Ⅲ) - ὑπελείφθη δὲ Ιακωβ μόνος καὶ ἐπάλαιεν ἄνθρωπος μετ' αὐτου̃ ἕως πρωί (Ⅳ) - 25 ׃32 ויותר יעקב לבדו ויאבק איש עמו עד עלות השחר (Ⅴ)

Qui cum videret quod eum superare non posset, tetigit nervum femoris ejus, et statim emarcuit.
- Voyant qu'il ne pouvait le vaincre, cet homme le frappa à l'emboîture de la hanche; et l'emboîture de la hanche de Jacob se démit pendant qu'il luttait avec lui. (Ⅱ) - And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. (Ⅲ) - εἰ̃δεν δὲ ὅτι οὐ δύναται πρὸς αὐτόν καὶ ἥψατο του̃ πλάτους του̃ μηρου̃ αὐτου̃ καὶ ἐνάρκησεν τὸ πλάτος του̃ μηρου̃ Ιακωβ ἐν τω̨̃ παλαίειν αὐτὸν μετ' αὐτου̃ (Ⅳ) - 26 ׃32 וירא כי לא יכל לו ויגע בכף ירכו ותקע כף ירך יעקב בהאבקו עמו (Ⅴ)

Dixitque ad eum : Dimitte me : jam enim ascendit aurora. Respondit : Non dimittam te, nisi benedixeris mihi.
- Il dit: Laisse-moi aller, car l'aurore se lève. Et Jacob répondit: Je ne te laisserai point aller, que tu ne m'aies béni. (Ⅱ) - And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. (Ⅲ) - καὶ εἰ̃πεν αὐτω̨̃ ἀπόστειλόν με ἀνέβη γὰρ ὁ ὄρθρος ὁ δὲ εἰ̃πεν οὐ μή σε ἀποστείλω ἐὰν μή με εὐλογήση̨ς (Ⅳ) - 27 ׃32 ויאמר שלחני כי עלה השחר ויאמר לא אשלחך כי אם ברכתני (Ⅴ)

Ait ergo : Quod nomen est tibi ? Respondit : Jacob.

At ille : Nequaquam, inquit, Jacob appellabitur nomen tuum, sed Israël : quoniam si contra Deum fortis fuisti, quanto magis contra homines prævalebis ?
- Il dit encore: ton nom ne sera plus Jacob, mais tu seras appelé Israël; car tu as lutté avec Dieu et avec des hommes, et tu as été vainqueur. (Ⅱ) - And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. (Ⅲ) - εἰ̃πεν δὲ αὐτω̨̃ οὐ κληθήσεται ἔτι τὸ ὄνομά σου Ιακωβ ἀλλὰ Ισραηλ ἔσται τὸ ὄνομά σου ὅτι ἐνίσχυσας μετὰ θεου̃ καὶ μετὰ ἀνθρώπων δυνατός (Ⅳ) - 29 ׃32 ויאמר לא יעקב יאמר עוד שמך כי אם ישראל כי שרית עם אלהים ועם אנשים ותוכל (Ⅴ)

Interrogavit eum Jacob : Dic mihi, quo appellaris nomine ? Respondit : Cur quæris nomen meum ? Et benedixit ei in eodem loco.
- Jacob l'interrogea, en disant: Fais-moi je te prie, connaître ton nom. Il répondit: Pourquoi demandes-tu mon nom? Et il le bénit là. (Ⅱ) - And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there. (Ⅲ) - ἠρώτησεν δὲ Ιακωβ καὶ εἰ̃πεν ἀνάγγειλόν μοι τὸ ὄνομά σου καὶ εἰ̃πεν ἵνα τί του̃το ἐρωτα̨̃ς τὸ ὄνομά μου καὶ ηὐλόγησεν αὐτὸν ἐκει̃ (Ⅳ) - 30 ׃32 וישאל יעקב ויאמר הגידה נא שמך ויאמר למה זה תשאל לשמי ויברך אתו שם (Ⅴ)

Vocavitque Jacob nomen loci illius Phanuel, dicens : Vidi Deum facie ad faciem, et salva facta est anima mea.
- Jacob appela ce lieu du nom de Peniel: car, dit-il, j'ai vu Dieu face à face, et mon âme a été sauvée. (Ⅱ) - And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved. (Ⅲ) - καὶ ἐκάλεσεν Ιακωβ τὸ ὄνομα του̃ τόπου ἐκείνου Εἰ̃δος θεου̃ εἰ̃δον γὰρ θεὸν πρόσωπον πρὸς πρόσωπον καὶ ἐσώθη μου ἡ ψυχή (Ⅳ) - 31 ׃32 ויקרא יעקב שם המקום פניאל כי ראיתי אלהים פנים אל פנים ותנצל נפשי (Ⅴ)

Ortusque est ei statim sol, postquam transgressus est Phanuel : ipse vero claudicabat pede.
- Le soleil se levait, lorsqu'il passa Peniel. Jacob boitait de la hanche. (Ⅱ) - And as he passed over Penuel the sun rose upon him, and he halted upon his thigh. (Ⅲ) - ἀνέτειλεν δὲ αὐτω̨̃ ὁ ἥλιος ἡνίκα παρη̃λθεν τὸ Εἰ̃δος του̃ θεου̃ αὐτὸς δὲ ἐπέσκαζεν τω̨̃ μηρω̨̃ αὐτου̃ (Ⅳ) - 32 ׃32 ויזרח לו השמש כאשר עבר את פנואל והוא צלע על ירכו (Ⅴ)

Quam ob causam non comedunt nervum filii Israël, qui emarcuit in femore Jacob, usque in præsentem diem : eo quod tetigerit nervum femoris ejus, et obstupuerit.
- C'est pourquoi jusqu'à ce jour, les enfants d'Israël ne mangent point le tendon qui est à l'emboîture de la hanche; car Dieu frappa Jacob à l'emboîture de la hanche, au tendon. (Ⅱ) - Therefore the children of Israel eat not of the sinew which shrank, which is upon the hollow of the thigh, unto this day: because he touched the hollow of Jacob's thigh in the sinew that shrank. (Ⅲ) - ἕνεκεν τούτου οὐ μὴ φάγωσιν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ τὸ νευ̃ρον ὃ ἐνάρκησεν ὅ ἐστιν ἐπὶ του̃ πλάτους του̃ μηρου̃ ἕως τη̃ς ἡμέρας ταύτης ὅτι ἥψατο του̃ πλάτους του̃ μηρου̃ Ιακωβ του̃ νεύρου καὶ ἐνάρκησεν (Ⅳ) - 33 ׃32 על כן לא יאכלו בני ישראל את גיד הנשה אשר על כף הירך עד היום הזה כי נגע בכף ירך יעקב בגיד הנשה (Ⅴ)
