- Qui est celui qui obscurcit mes desseins Par des discours sans intelligence? (Ⅱ) - Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge? (Ⅲ) - τίς οὑ̃τος ὁ κρύπτων με βουλήν συνέχων δὲ ῥήματα ἐν καρδία̨ ἐμὲ δὲ οἴεται κρύπτειν (Ⅳ) - 2 ׃38 מי זה מחשיך עצה במלין בלי דעת (Ⅴ)

Accinge sicut vir lumbos tuos :/ interrogabo te, et responde mihi./
- Ceins tes reins comme un vaillant homme; Je t'interrogerai, et tu m'instruiras. (Ⅱ) - Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me. (Ⅲ) - ζω̃σαι ὥσπερ ἀνὴρ τὴν ὀσφύν σου ἐρωτήσω δέ σε σὺ δέ μοι ἀποκρίθητι (Ⅳ) - 3 ׃38 אזר נא כגבר חלציך ואשאלך והודיעני (Ⅴ)

Ubi eras quando ponebam fundamenta terræ ?/ indica mihi, si habes intelligentiam./
- Où étais-tu quand je fondais la terre? Dis-le, si tu as de l'intelligence. (Ⅱ) - Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding. (Ⅲ) - που̃ ἠ̃ς ἐν τω̨̃ θεμελιου̃ν με τὴν γη̃ν ἀπάγγειλον δέ μοι εἰ ἐπίστη̨ σύνεσιν (Ⅳ) - 4 ׃38 איפה היית ביסדי ארץ הגד אם ידעת בינה (Ⅴ)

Quis posuit mensuras ejus, si nosti ?/ vel quis tetendit super eam lineam ?/
- Qui en a fixé les dimensions, le sais-tu? Ou qui a étendu sur elle le cordeau? (Ⅱ) - Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it? (Ⅲ) - τίς ἔθετο τὰ μέτρα αὐτη̃ς εἰ οἰ̃δας ἢ τίς ὁ ἐπαγαγὼν σπαρτίον ἐπ' αὐτη̃ς (Ⅳ) - 5 ׃38 מי שם ממדיה כי תדע או מי נטה עליה קו (Ⅴ)

- Sur quoi ses bases sont-elles appuyées? Ou qui en a posé la pierre angulaire, (Ⅱ) - Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof; (Ⅲ) - ἐπὶ τίνος οἱ κρίκοι αὐτη̃ς πεπήγασιν τίς δέ ἐστιν ὁ βαλὼν λίθον γωνιαι̃ον ἐπ' αὐτη̃ς (Ⅳ) - 6 ׃38 על מה אדניה הטבעו או מי ירה אבן פנתה (Ⅴ)

cum me laudarent simul astra matutina,/ et jubilarent omnes filii Dei ?/
- Alors que les étoiles du matin éclataient en chants d'allégresse, Et que tous les fils de Dieu poussaient des cris de joie? (Ⅱ) - When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy? Quis conclusit ostiis mare,/ quando erumpebat quasi de vulva procedens ;/
- Qui a fermé la mer avec des portes, Quand elle s'élança du sein maternel; (Ⅱ) - Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb? (Ⅲ) - ἔφραξα δὲ θάλασσαν πύλαις ὅτε ἐμαίμασσεν ἐκ κοιλίας μητρὸς αὐτη̃ς ἐκπορευομένη (Ⅳ) - 8 ׃38 ויסך בדלתים ים בגיחו מרחם יצא (Ⅴ)

cum ponerem nubem vestimentum ejus,/ et caligine illud quasi pannis infantiæ obvolverem ?/
- Quand je fis de la nuée son vêtement, Et de l'obscurité ses langes; (Ⅱ) - When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it, (Ⅲ) - ἐθέμην δὲ αὐτη̨̃ νέφος ἀμφίασιν ὁμίχλη̨ δὲ αὐτὴν ἐσπαργάνωσα (Ⅳ) - 9 ׃38 בשומי ענן לבשו וערפל חתלתו (Ⅴ)

Circumdedi illud terminis meis,/ et posui vectem et ostia,/
- Quand je lui imposai ma loi, Et que je lui mis des barrières et des portes; (Ⅱ) - And brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors, (Ⅲ) - ἐθέμην δὲ αὐτη̨̃ ὅρια περιθεὶς κλει̃θρα καὶ πύλας (Ⅳ) - 10 ׃38 ואשבר עליו חקי ואשים בריח ודלתים (Ⅴ)

et dixi : Usque huc venies, et non procedes amplius,/ et hic confringes tumentes fluctus tuos./
- Quand je dis: Tu viendras jusqu'ici, tu n'iras pas au delà; Ici s'arrêtera l'orgueil de tes flots? (Ⅱ) - And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed? (Ⅲ) - εἰ̃πα δὲ αὐτη̨̃ μέχρι τούτου ἐλεύση̨ καὶ οὐχ ὑπερβήση̨ ἀλλ' ἐν σεαυτη̨̃ συντριβήσεταί σου τὰ κύματα (Ⅳ) - 11 ׃38 ואמר עד פה תבוא ולא תסיף ופא ישית בגאון גליך (Ⅴ)

- Depuis que tu existes, as-tu commandé au matin? As-tu montré sa place à l'aurore, (Ⅱ) - Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days; and caused the dayspring to know his place; (Ⅲ) - ἠ̃ ἐπὶ σου̃ συντέταχα φέγγος πρωινόν ἑωσφόρος δὲ εἰ̃δεν τὴν ἑαυτου̃ τάξιν (Ⅳ) - 12 ׃38 המימיך[1] צוית בקר *ידעתה *שחר **ידעתה[k] **השחר מקמו (Ⅴ)

Et tenuisti concutiens extrema terræ,/ et excussisti impios ex ea ?/
- Pour qu'elle saisisse les extrémités de la terre, Et que les méchants en soient secoués; (Ⅱ) - That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it? (Ⅲ) - ἐπιλαβέσθαι πτερύγων γη̃ς ἐκτινάξαι ἀσεβει̃ς ἐξ αὐτη̃ς (Ⅳ) - 13 ׃38 לאחז בכנפות הארץ וינערו רשע[7]ים ממנה (Ⅴ)

Restituetur ut lutum signaculum,/ et stabit sicut vestimentum :/
- Pour que la terre se transforme comme l'argile qui reçoit une empreinte, Et qu'elle soit parée comme d'un vêtement; (Ⅱ) - It is turned as clay to the seal; and they stand as a garment. (Ⅲ) - ἠ̃ σὺ λαβὼν γη̃ν πηλὸν ἔπλασας ζω̨̃ον καὶ λαλητὸν αὐτὸν ἔθου ἐπὶ γη̃ς (Ⅳ) - 14 ׃38 תתהפך כחמר חותם ויתיצבו כמו לבוש (Ⅴ)

auferetur ab impiis lux sua,/ et brachium excelsum confringetur./
- Pour que les méchants soient privés de leur lumière, Et que le bras qui se lève soit brisé? (Ⅱ) - And from the wicked their light is withholden, and the high arm shall be broken. (Ⅲ) - ἀφει̃λας δὲ ἀπὸ ἀσεβω̃ν τὸ φω̃ς βραχίονα δὲ ὑπερηφάνων συνέτριψας (Ⅳ) - 15 ׃38 וימנע מרשע[7]ים אורם וזרוע רמה תשבר (Ⅴ)

- As-tu pénétré jusqu'aux sources de la mer? T'es-tu promené dans les profondeurs de l'abîme? (Ⅱ) - Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? or hast thou walked in the search of the depth? (Ⅲ) - ἠ̃λθες δὲ ἐπὶ πηγὴν θαλάσσης ἐν δὲ ἴχνεσιν ἀβύσσου περιεπάτησας (Ⅳ) - 16 ׃38 הבאת עד נבכי ים ובחקר תהום התהלכת (Ⅴ)

- Les portes de la mort t'ont-elles été ouvertes? As-tu vu les portes de l'ombre de la mort? (Ⅱ) - Have the gates of death been opened unto thee? or hast thou seen the doors of the shadow of death? (Ⅲ) - ἀνοίγονται δέ σοι φόβω̨ πύλαι θανάτου πυλωροὶ δὲ ἅ̨δου ἰδόντες σε ἔπτηξαν (Ⅳ) - 17 ׃38 הנגלו לך שערי מות ושערי צלמות תראה (Ⅴ)

Numquid considerasti latitudinem terræ ?/ indica mihi, si nosti, omnia :/
- As-tu embrassé du regard l'étendue de la terre? Parle, si tu sais toutes ces choses. (Ⅱ) - Hast thou perceived the breadth of the earth? declare if thou knowest it all. (Ⅲ) - νενουθέτησαι δὲ τὸ εὐ̃ρος τη̃ς ὑπ' οὐρανόν ἀνάγγειλον δή μοι πόση τίς ἐστιν (Ⅳ) - 18 ׃38 התבננת עד רחבי ארץ הגד אם ידעת כלה (Ⅴ)

in qua via lux habitet,/ et tenebrarum quis locus sit :/
- Où est le chemin qui conduit au séjour de la lumière? Et les ténèbres, où ont-elles leur demeure? (Ⅱ) - Where is the way where light dwelleth? and as for darkness, where is the place thereof, (Ⅲ) - ποία̨ δὲ γη̨̃ αὐλίζεται τὸ φω̃ς σκότους δὲ ποι̃ος ὁ τόπος (Ⅳ) - 19 ׃38 אי זה הדרך ישכן אור וחשך אי זה מקמו (Ⅴ)

- Peux-tu les saisir à leur limite, Et connaître les sentiers de leur habitation? (Ⅱ) - That thou shouldest take it to the bound thereof, and that thou shouldest know the paths to the house thereof? (Ⅲ) - εἰ ἀγάγοις με εἰς ὅρια αὐτω̃ν εἰ δὲ καὶ ἐπίστασαι τρίβους αὐτω̃ν (Ⅳ) - 20 ׃38 כי תקחנו אל גבולו וכי תבין נתיבות ביתו (Ⅴ)

(Ⅱ) - To satisfy the desolate and waste ground; and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth? - Noues-tu les liens des Pléiades, Ou détaches-tu les cordages de l'Orion? (Ⅱ) - Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion? (Ⅲ) - συνη̃κας δὲ δεσμὸν Πλειάδος καὶ φραγμὸν 'Ωρίωνος ἤνοιξας (Ⅳ) - 31 ׃38 התקשר מעדנות כימה או משכות כסיל תפתח (Ⅴ)

(Ⅱ) - Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons?
