But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,

And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet.

But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.
- S'il n'eût pas été vendu, ne te restait-il pas? Et, après qu'il a été vendu, le prix n'était-il pas à ta disposition? Comment as-tu pu mettre en ton coeur un pareil dessein? Ce n'est pas à des hommes que tu as menti, mais à Dieu. (Ⅱ) - οὐχὶ μένον σοὶ ἔμενεν καὶ πραθὲν ἐν τῇ σῇ ἐξουσίᾳ ὑπῆρχεν; τί ὅτι ἔθου ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ σου τὸ πρᾶγμα τοῦτο; οὐκ ἐψεύσω ἀνθρώποις ἀλλὰ τῷ θεῷ. (Ⅲ) - nonne manens tibi manebat, et venundatum in tua erat potestate ? quare posuisti in corde tuo hanc rem ? non es mentitus hominibus, sed Deo. (Ⅳ)

And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.

And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him.
- Les jeunes gens, s'étant levés, l'enveloppèrent, l'emportèrent, et l'ensevelirent. (Ⅱ) - ἀναστάντες δὲ οἱ νεώτεροι συνέστειλαν αὐτὸν καὶ ἐξενέγκαντες ἔθαψαν. (Ⅲ) - Surgentes autem juvenes amoverunt eum, et efferentes sepelierunt. (Ⅳ)

And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in.

And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much.

Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.
- Alors Pierre lui dit: Comment vous êtes-vous accordés pour tenter l'Esprit du Seigneur? Voici, ceux qui ont enseveli ton mari sont à la porte, et ils t'emporteront. Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.
- Au même instant, elle tomba aux pieds de l'apôtre, et expira. Les jeunes gens, étant entrés, la trouvèrent morte; ils l'emportèrent, et l'ensevelirent auprès de son mari. And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.

And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch.
- Beaucoup de miracles et de prodiges se faisaient au milieu du peuple par les mains des apôtres. And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them.

And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)

Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.
- en sorte qu'on apportait les malades dans les rues et qu'on les plaçait sur des lits et des couchettes, afin que, lorsque Pierre passerait, son ombre au moins couvrît quelqu'un d'eux. (Ⅱ) - ὥστε ⸂καὶ εἰς⸃ τὰς πλατείας ἐκφέρειν τοὺς ἀσθενεῖς καὶ τιθέναι ἐπὶ ⸀κλιναρίων καὶ κραβάττων, ἵνα ἐρχομένου Πέτρου κἂν ἡ σκιὰ ⸀ἐπισκιάσῃ τινὶ αὐτῶν. (Ⅲ) - ita ut in plateas ejicerent infirmos, et ponerent in lectulis et grabatis, ut, veniente Petro, saltem umbra illius obumbraret quemquam illorum, et liberarentur ab infirmitatibus suis. (Ⅳ)

There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.
- La multitude accourait aussi des villes voisines à Jérusalem, amenant des malades et des gens tourmentés par des esprits impurs; et tous étaient guéris. (Ⅱ) - συνήρχετο δὲ καὶ τὸ πλῆθος τῶν πέριξ ⸀πόλεων Ἰερουσαλήμ, φέροντες ἀσθενεῖς καὶ ὀχλουμένους ὑπὸ πνευμάτων ἀκαθάρτων, οἵτινες ἐθεραπεύοντο ἅπαντες. (Ⅲ) - Concurrebat autem et multitudo vicinarum civitatum Jerusalem, afferentes ægros, et vexatos a spiritibus immundis : qui curabantur omnes.\ (Ⅳ)

Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation,

And laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison.

But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said,

Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.
- Allez, tenez-vous dans le temple, et annoncez au peuple toutes les paroles de cette vie. (Ⅱ) - Πορεύεσθε καὶ σταθέντες λαλεῖτε ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ τῷ λαῷ πάντα τὰ ῥήματα τῆς ζωῆς ταύτης. (Ⅲ) - Ite, et stantes loquimini in templo plebi omnia verba vitæ hujus. (Ⅳ)

And when they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning, and taught. But the high priest came, and they that were with him, and called the council together, and all the senate of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.
- Ayant entendu cela, ils entrèrent dès le matin dans le temple, et se mirent à enseigner. Le souverain sacrificateur et ceux qui étaient avec lui étant survenus, ils convoquèrent le sanhédrin et tous les anciens des fils d'Israël, et ils envoyèrent chercher les apôtres à la prison. (Ⅱ) - ἀκούσαντες δὲ εἰσῆλθον ὑπὸ τὸν ὄρθρον εἰς τὸ ἱερὸν καὶ ἐδίδασκον. Παραγενόμενος δὲ ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς καὶ οἱ σὺν αὐτῷ συνεκάλεσαν τὸ συνέδριον καὶ πᾶσαν τὴν γερουσίαν τῶν υἱῶν Ἰσραήλ, καὶ ἀπέστειλαν εἰς τὸ δεσμωτήριον ἀχθῆναι αὐτούς. (Ⅲ) - Qui cum audissent, intraverunt diluculo in templum, et docebant. Adveniens autem princeps sacerdotum, et qui cum eo erant, convocaverunt concilium, et omnes seniores filiorum Israël : et miserunt ad carcerem ut adducerentur. (Ⅳ)

But when the officers came, and found them not in the prison, they returned and told,

Saying, The prison truly found we shut with all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within.

(Ⅲ) - dicentes : Carcerem quidem invenimus clausum cum omni diligentia, et custodes stantes ante januas : aperientes autem neminem intus invenimus. (Ⅳ)

Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow.
- Lorsqu'ils eurent entendu ces paroles, le commandant du temple et les principaux sacrificateurs ne savaient que penser des apôtres et des suites de cette affaire. (Ⅱ) - ὡς δὲ ἤκουσαν τοὺς λόγους τούτους ὅ ⸀τε στρατηγὸς τοῦ ἱεροῦ καὶ οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς, διηπόρουν περὶ αὐτῶν τί ἂν γένοιτο τοῦτο. (Ⅲ) - Ut autem audierunt hos sermones magistratus templi et principes sacerdotum, ambigebant de illis quidnam fieret. (Ⅳ)

Then came one and told them, saying, Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people.
- Quelqu'un vint leur dire: Voici, les hommes que vous avez mis en prison sont dans le temple, et ils enseignent le peuple. (Ⅱ) - παραγενόμενος δέ τις ἀπήγγειλεν αὐτοῖς ὅτι Ἰδοὺ οἱ ἄνδρες οὓς ἔθεσθε ἐν τῇ φυλακῇ εἰσὶν ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ ἑστῶτες καὶ διδάσκοντες τὸν λαόν. (Ⅲ) - Adveniens autem quidam, nuntiavit eis : Quia ecce viri quos posuistis in carcerem, sunt in templo, stantes et docentes populum.\ (Ⅳ)

Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence: for they feared the people, lest they should have been stoned.
- Alors le commandant partit avec les huissiers, et les conduisit sans violence, car ils avaient peur d'être lapidés par le peuple. (Ⅱ) - τότε ἀπελθὼν ὁ στρατηγὸς σὺν τοῖς ὑπηρέταις ⸀ἤγαγεν αὐτούς, οὐ μετὰ βίας, ἐφοβοῦντο γὰρ τὸν λαόν, ⸀μὴ λιθασθῶσιν. (Ⅲ) - Tunc abiit magistratus cum ministris, et adduxit illos sine vi : timebant enim populum ne lapidarentur. (Ⅳ)

And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them,
- Après qu'ils les eurent amenés en présence du sanhédrin, le souverain sacrificateur les interrogea en ces termes: (Ⅱ) - Ἀγαγόντες δὲ αὐτοὺς ἔστησαν ἐν τῷ συνεδρίῳ. καὶ ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτοὺς ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς (Ⅲ) - Et cum adduxissent illos, statuerunt in concilio : et interrogavit eos princeps sacerdotum, (Ⅳ)

Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us.
- Ne vous avons-nous pas défendu expressément d'enseigner en ce nom-là? Et voici, vous avez rempli Jérusalem de votre enseignement, et vous voulez faire retomber sur nous le sang de cet homme! (Ⅱ) - ⸀λέγων· Παραγγελίᾳ παρηγγείλαμεν ὑμῖν μὴ διδάσκειν ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματι τούτῳ, καὶ ἰδοὺ πεπληρώκατε τὴν Ἰερουσαλὴμ τῆς διδαχῆς ὑμῶν, καὶ βούλεσθε ἐπαγαγεῖν ἐφ’ ἡμᾶς τὸ αἷμα τοῦ ἀνθρώπου τούτου. (Ⅲ) - dicens : Præcipiendo præcepimus vobis ne doceretis in nomine isto, et ecce replestis Jerusalem doctrina vestra : et vultis inducere super nos sanguinem hominis istius.\ (Ⅳ)

Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.

Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.

And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.
- Nous sommes témoins de ces choses, de même que le Saint Esprit, que Dieu a donné à ceux qui lui obéissent. When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slay them.

Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space;
- Mais un pharisien, nommé Gamaliel, docteur de la loi, estimé de tout le peuple, se leva dans le sanhédrin, et ordonna de faire sortir un instant les apôtres. And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men.
- Puis il leur dit: Hommes Israélites, prenez garde à ce que vous allez faire à l'égard de ces gens. (Ⅱ) - εἶπέν τε πρὸς αὐτούς· Ἄνδρες Ἰσραηλῖται, προσέχετε ἑαυτοῖς ἐπὶ τοῖς ἀνθρώποις τούτοις τί μέλλετε πράσσειν. (Ⅲ) - dixitque ad illos : Viri Israëlitæ, attendite vobis super hominibus istis quid acturi sitis. (Ⅳ)

For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought.
- Car, il n'y a pas longtemps que parut Theudas, qui se donnait pour quelque chose, et auquel se rallièrent environ quatre cents hommes: il fut tué, et tous ceux qui l'avaient suivi furent mis en déroute et réduits à rien. (Ⅱ) - πρὸ γὰρ τούτων τῶν ἡμερῶν ἀνέστη Θευδᾶς, λέγων εἶναί τινα ἑαυτόν, ᾧ ⸀προσεκλίθη ⸂ἀνδρῶν ἀριθμὸς ὡς⸃ τετρακοσίων· ὃς ἀνῃρέθη, καὶ πάντες ὅσοι ἐπείθοντο αὐτῷ διελύθησαν καὶ ἐγένοντο εἰς οὐδέν. (Ⅲ) - Ante hos enim dies extitit Theodas, dicens se esse aliquem, cui consensit numerus virorum circiter quadringentorum : qui occisus est, et omnes qui credebant ei, dissipati sunt, et redacti ad nihilum. (Ⅳ)

After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed.
- Après lui, parut Judas le Galiléen, à l'époque du recensement, et il attira du monde à son parti: il périt aussi, et tous ceux qui l'avaient suivi furent dispersés. (Ⅱ) - μετὰ τοῦτον ἀνέστη Ἰούδας ὁ Γαλιλαῖος ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις τῆς ἀπογραφῆς καὶ ἀπέστησε ⸀λαὸν ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ· κἀκεῖνος ἀπώλετο καὶ πάντες ὅσοι ἐπείθοντο αὐτῷ διεσκορπίσθησαν. (Ⅲ) - Post hunc extitit Judas Galilæus in diebus professionis, et avertit populum post se : et ipse periit, et omnes quotquot consenserunt ei, dispersi sunt. (Ⅳ)

And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought:
- Et maintenant, je vous le dis ne vous occupez plus de ces hommes, et laissez-les aller. Si cette entreprise ou cette oeuvre vient des hommes, elle se détruira; (Ⅱ) - καὶ τὰ νῦν λέγω ὑμῖν, ἀπόστητε ἀπὸ τῶν ἀνθρώπων τούτων καὶ ⸀ἄφετε αὐτούς· (ὅτι ἐὰν ᾖ ἐξ ἀνθρώπων ἡ βουλὴ ⸀αὕτη ἢ τὸ ἔργον τοῦτο, καταλυθήσεται, (Ⅲ) - Et nunc itaque dico vobis, discedite ab hominibus istis, et sinite illos : quoniam si est ex hominibus consilium hoc aut opus, dissolvetur : (Ⅳ)

But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.
- mais si elle vient de Dieu, vous ne pourrez la détruire. Ne courez pas le risque d'avoir combattu contre Dieu. (Ⅱ) - εἰ δὲ ἐκ θεοῦ ἐστιν, οὐ ⸀δυνήσεσθε καταλῦσαι ⸀αὐτούς·) μήποτε καὶ θεομάχοι εὑρεθῆτε. ἐπείσθησαν δὲ αὐτῷ, (Ⅲ) - si vero ex Deo est, non poteritis dissolvere illud, ne forte et Deo repugnare inveniamini. Consenserunt autem illi. (Ⅳ)

And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.
- Ils se rangèrent à son avis. Et ayant appelé les apôtres, ils les firent battre de verges, ils leur défendirent de parler au nom de Jésus, et ils les relâchèrent. (Ⅱ) - καὶ προσκαλεσάμενοι τοὺς ἀποστόλους δείραντες παρήγγειλαν μὴ λαλεῖν ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματι τοῦ Ἰησοῦ καὶ ⸀ἀπέλυσαν. (Ⅲ) - Et convocantes Apostolos, cæsis denuntiaverunt ne omnino loquerentur in nomine Jesu, et dimiserunt eos. (Ⅳ)

And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.
- Les apôtres se retirèrent de devant le sanhédrin, joyeux d'avoir été jugés dignes de subir des outrages pour le nom de Jésus. (Ⅱ) - οἱ μὲν οὖν ἐπορεύοντο χαίροντες ἀπὸ προσώπου τοῦ συνεδρίου ὅτι ⸂κατηξιώθησαν ὑπὲρ τοῦ ὀνόματος⸃ ἀτιμασθῆναι· (Ⅲ) - Et illi quidem ibant gaudentes a conspectu concilii, quoniam digni habiti sunt pro nomine Jesu contumeliam pati. (Ⅳ)

And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.
- Et chaque jour, dans le temple et dans les maisons, ils ne cessaient d'enseigner, et d'annoncer la bonne nouvelle de Jésus Christ. (Ⅱ) - πᾶσάν τε ἡμέραν ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ καὶ κατ’ οἶκον οὐκ ἐπαύοντο διδάσκοντες καὶ εὐαγγελιζόμενοι ⸂τὸν χριστὸν Ἰησοῦν⸃. (Ⅲ) - Omni autem die non cessabant in templo et circa domos, docentes et evangelizantes Christum Jesum. (Ⅳ)
