Now the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel, (for he was the firstborn; but forasmuch as he defiled his father's bed, his birthright was given unto the sons of Joseph the son of Israel: and the genealogy is not to be reckoned after the birthright.

For Judah prevailed above his brethren, and of him came the chief ruler; but the birthright was Joseph's:)

And eastward he inhabited unto the entering in of the wilderness from the river Euphrates: because their cattle were multiplied in the land of Gilead.
- à l'orient, il habitait jusqu'à l'entrée du désert depuis le fleuve de l'Euphrate, car leurs troupeaux étaient nombreux dans le pays de Galaad. And in the days of Saul they made war with the Hagarites, who fell by their hand: and they dwelt in their tents throughout all the east land of Gilead.

And the children of Gad dwelt over against them, in the land of Bashan unto Salcah:

And their brethren of the house of their fathers were, Michael, and Meshullam, and Sheba, and Jorai, and Jachan, and Zia, and Heber, seven.

And they dwelt in Gilead in Bashan, and in her towns, and in all the suburbs of Sharon, upon their borders.

All these were reckoned by genealogies in the days of Jotham king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam king of Israel.

The sons of Reuben, and the Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh, of valiant men, men able to bear buckler and sword, and to shoot with bow, and skillful in war, were four and forty thousand seven hundred and threescore, that went out to the war.

And they made war with the Hagarites, with Jetur, and Nephish, and Nodab.

And they were helped against them, and the Hagarites were delivered into their hand, and all that were with them: for they cried to God in the battle, and he was intreated of them; because they put their trust in him.
- Ils reçurent du secours contre eux, et les Hagaréniens et tous ceux qui étaient avec eux furent livrés entre leurs mains. Car, pendant le combat, ils avaient crié à Dieu, qui les exauça, parce qu'ils s'étaient confiés en lui. (Ⅱ) - καὶ κατίσχυσαν ἐπ' αὐτω̃ν καὶ ἐδόθησαν εἰς χει̃ρας αὐτω̃ν οἱ Αγαραι̃οι καὶ πάντα τὰ σκηνώματα αὐτω̃ν ὅτι πρὸς τὸν θεὸν ἐβόησαν ἐν τω̨̃ πολέμω̨ καὶ ἐπήκουσεν αὐτοι̃ς ὅτι ἤλπισαν ἐπ' αὐτόν (Ⅲ) - præbuerunt eis auxilium. Traditique sunt in manus eorum Agarei, et universi qui fuerant cum eis, quia Deum invocaverunt cum præliarentur : et exaudivit eos, eo quod credidissent in eum. (Ⅳ) - 20 ׃5 ויעזרו עליהם וינתנו בידם ההגריאים וכל שעמהם כי לאלהים זעקו במלחמה ונעתור להם כי בטחו בו (Ⅴ)

And they took away their cattle; of their camels fifty thousand, and of sheep two hundred and fifty thousand, and of asses two thousand, and of men an hundred thousand.
- Ils prirent leurs troupeaux, cinquante mille chameaux, deux cent cinquante mille brebis, deux mille ânes, et cent mille personnes; (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἠ̨χμαλώτευσαν τὴν ἀποσκευὴν αὐτω̃ν καμήλους πεντακισχιλίας καὶ προβάτων διακοσίας πεντήκοντα χιλιάδας ὄνους δισχιλίους καὶ ψυχὰς ἀνδρω̃ν ἑκατὸν χιλιάδας (Ⅲ) - Ceperuntque omnia quæ possederant, camelorum quinquaginta millia, et ovium ducenta quinquaginta millia, et asinos duo millia, et animas hominum centum millia. (Ⅳ) - 21 ׃5 וישבו מקניהם גמליהם חמשים אלף וצאן מאתים וחמשים אלף וחמורים אלפים ונפש אדם מאה אלף (Ⅴ)

For there fell down many slain, because the war was of God. And they dwelt in their steads until the captivity.
- car il y eut beaucoup de morts, parce que le combat venait de Dieu. Et ils s'établirent à leur place jusqu'au temps où ils furent emmenés captifs. (Ⅱ) - ὅτι τραυματίαι πολλοὶ ἔπεσον ὅτι παρὰ του̃ θεου̃ ὁ πόλεμος καὶ κατώ̨κησαν ἀντ' αὐτω̃ν ἕως τη̃ς μετοικεσίας (Ⅲ) - Vulnerati autem multi corruerunt : fuit enim bellum Domini. Habitaveruntque pro eis usque ad transmigrationem.\ (Ⅳ) - 22 ׃5 כי חללים רבים נפלו כי מהאלהים המלחמה וישבו תחתיהם עד הגלה פ (Ⅴ)

And the children of the half tribe of Manasseh dwelt in the land: they increased from Bashan unto Baalhermon and Senir, and unto mount Hermon.
- Les fils de la demi-tribu de Manassé habitaient dans le pays, depuis Basan jusqu'à Baal Hermon et à Senir, et à la montagne d'Hermon; ils étaient nombreux. (Ⅱ) - καὶ οἱ ἡμίσεις φυλη̃ς Μανασση κατώ̨κησαν ἐν τη̨̃ γη̨̃ ἀπὸ Βασαν ἕως Βααλερμων καὶ Σανιρ καὶ ὄρος Αερμων καὶ ἐν τω̨̃ Λιβάνω̨ αὐτοὶ ἐπλεονάσθησαν (Ⅲ) - Filii quoque dimidiæ tribus Manasse possederunt terram a finibus Basan usque Baal, Hermon, et Sanir, et montem Hermon : ingens quippe numerus erat. (Ⅳ) - 23 ׃5 ובני חצי שבט מנשה ישבו בארץ מבשן עד בעל חרמון ושניר והר חרמון המה רבו (Ⅴ)

And these were the heads of the house of their fathers, even Epher, and Ishi, and Eliel, and Azriel, and Jeremiah, and Hodaviah, and Jahdiel, mighty men of valor, famous men, and heads of the house of their fathers.
- Voici les chefs des maisons de leurs pères: Épher, Jischeï, Éliel, Azriel, Jérémie, Hodavia et Jachdiel, vaillants hommes, gens de renom, chefs des maisons de leurs pères. (Ⅱ) - καὶ οὑ̃τοι ἀρχηγοὶ οἴκου πατριω̃ν αὐτω̃ν Οφερ καὶ Ισεϊ καὶ Ελιηλ καὶ Εσδριηλ καὶ Ιερμια καὶ Ωδουια καὶ Ιεδιηλ ἄνδρες ἰσχυροὶ δυνάμει ἄνδρες ὀνομαστοί ἄρχοντες τω̃ν οἴκων πατριω̃ν αὐτω̃ν (Ⅲ) - Et hi fuerunt principes domus cognationis eorum : Epher, et Jesi, et Eliel, et Ezriel, et Jeremia, et Odoia, et Jediel, viri fortissimi et potentes, et nominati duces in familiis suis. (Ⅳ) - 24 ׃5 ואלה ראשי בית אבותם ועפר וישעי ואליאל ועזריאל וירמיה והודויה ויחדיאל אנשים גבורי חיל אנשי שמות ראשים לבית אבותם (Ⅴ)

And they transgressed against the God of their fathers, and went a whoring after the gods of the people of the land, whom God destroyed before them.
- Mais ils péchèrent contre le Dieu de leurs pères, et ils se prostituèrent après les dieux des peuples du pays, que Dieu avait détruits devant eux. (Ⅱ) - καὶ ἠθέτησαν ἐν θεω̨̃ πατέρων αὐτω̃ν καὶ ἐπόρνευσαν ὀπίσω θεω̃ν λαω̃ν τη̃ς γη̃ς οὓς ἐξη̃ρεν ὁ θεὸς ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτω̃ν (Ⅲ) - Reliquerunt autem Deum patrum suorum, et fornicati sunt post deos populorum terræ, quos abstulit Deus coram eis. (Ⅳ) - 25 ׃5 וימעלו באלהי אבותיהם ויזנו אחרי אלהי עמי הארץ אשר השמיד אלהים מפניהם (Ⅴ)

And the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Assyria, and the spirit of Tilgathpilneser king of Assyria, and he carried them away, even the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, and brought them unto Halah, and Habor, and Hara, and to the river Gozan, unto this day.
- Le Dieu d'Israël excita l'esprit de Pul, roi d'Assyrie, et l'esprit de Tilgath Pilnéser, roi d'Assyrie, et Tilgath Pilnéser emmena captifs les Rubénites, les Gadites et la demi-tribu de Manassé, et il les conduisit à Chalach, à Chabor, à Hara, et au fleuve de Gozan, où ils sont demeurés jusqu'à ce jour.
