Timor Domini principium sapientiæ ;/ sapientiam atque doctrinam stulti despiciunt.]\
- La crainte de l'Éternel est le commencement de la science; Les insensés méprisent la sagesse et l'instruction. (Ⅱ) - The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. Si dixerint : Veni nobiscum, insidiemur sanguini ;/ abscondamus tendiculas contra insontem frustra ;/
- S'ils disent: Viens avec nous! dressons des embûches, versons du sang, Tendons des pièges à celui qui se repose en vain sur son innocence, (Ⅱ) - If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause: (Ⅲ) - ἐλθὲ μεθ' ἡμω̃ν κοινώνησον αἵματος κρύψωμεν δὲ εἰς γη̃ν ἄνδρα δίκαιον ἀδίκως (Ⅳ) - 11 ׃1 אם יאמרו לכה אתנו נארבה לדם נצפנה לנקי חנם (Ⅴ)

- Mon fils, ne te mets pas en chemin avec eux, Détourne ton pied de leur sentier; (Ⅱ) - My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path: (Ⅲ) - μὴ πορευθη̨̃ς ἐν ὁδω̨̃ μετ' αὐτω̃ν ἔκκλινον δὲ τὸν πόδα σου ἐκ τω̃ν τρίβων αὐτω̃ν (Ⅳ) - 15 ׃1 בני אל תלך בדרך אתם מנע רגלך מנתיבתם (Ⅴ)

- Car leurs pieds courent au mal, Et ils ont hâte de répandre le sang. (Ⅱ) - For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood. (Ⅲ) - οἱ γὰρ πόδες αὐτω̃ν εἰς κακίαν τρέχουσιν καὶ ταχινοὶ του̃ ἐκχέαι αἱ̃μα (Ⅳ) - 16 ׃1 כי רגליהם לרע ירוצו וימהרו לשפך דם (Ⅴ)

Frustra autem jacitur rete/ ante oculos pennatorum./
- Mais en vain jette-t-on le filet Devant les yeux de tout ce qui a des ailes; (Ⅱ) - Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird. (Ⅲ) - οὐ γὰρ ἀδίκως ἐκτείνεται δίκτυα πτερωτοι̃ς (Ⅳ) - 17 ׃1 כי חנם מזרה הרשת בעיני כל בעל[U] כנף (Ⅴ)

Ipsi quoque contra sanguinem suum insidiantur,/ et moliuntur fraudes contra animas suas./
- Et eux, c'est contre leur propre sang qu'ils dressent des embûches, C'est à leur âme qu'ils tendent des pièges. (Ⅱ) - And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives. (Ⅲ) - αὐτοὶ γὰρ οἱ φόνου μετέχοντες θησαυρίζουσιν ἑαυτοι̃ς κακά ἡ δὲ καταστροφὴ ἀνδρω̃ν παρανόμων κακή (Ⅳ) - 18 ׃1 והם לדמם יארבו יצפנו לנפשתם (Ⅴ)

Sic semitæ omnis avari :/ animas possidentium rapiunt.]\
- Ainsi arrive-t-il à tout homme avide de gain; La cupidité cause la perte de ceux qui s'y livrent. (Ⅱ) - So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof. (Ⅲ) - αὑ̃ται αἱ ὁδοί εἰσιν πάντων τω̃ν συντελούντων τὰ ἄνομα τη̨̃ γὰρ ἀσεβεία̨ τὴν ἑαυτω̃ν ψυχὴν ἀφαιρου̃νται (Ⅳ) - 19 ׃1 כן ארחות כל בצע בצע את נפש בעליו יקח פ (Ⅴ)

Sapientia foris prædicat ;/ in plateis dat vocem suam :/
- La sagesse crie dans les rues, Elle élève sa voix dans les places: (Ⅱ) - Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets: (Ⅲ) - σοφία ἐν ἐξόδοις ὑμνει̃ται ἐν δὲ πλατείαις παρρησίαν ἄγει (Ⅳ) - 20 ׃1 חכמות בחוץ תרנה ברחבות תתן קולה (Ⅴ)

in capite turbarum clamitat ;/ in foribus portarum urbis profert verba sua, dicens :/
- Elle crie à l'entrée des lieux bruyants; Aux portes, dans la ville, elle fait entendre ses paroles: (Ⅱ) - She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying, (Ⅲ) - ἐπ' ἄκρων δὲ τειχέων κηρύσσεται ἐπὶ δὲ πύλαις δυναστω̃ν παρεδρεύει ἐπὶ δὲ πύλαις πόλεως θαρρου̃σα λέγει (Ⅳ) - 21 ׃1 בראש המיות תקרא בפתחי שערים בעיר אמריה תאמר (Ⅴ)

Usquequo, parvuli, diligitis infantiam,/ et stulti ea quæ sibi sunt noxia cupient,/ et imprudentes odibunt scientiam ?/
- Jusqu'à quand, stupides, aimerez-vous la stupidité? Jusqu'à quand les moqueurs se plairont-ils à la moquerie, Et les insensés haïront-ils la science? (Ⅱ) - How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge? (Ⅲ) - ὅσον ἂν χρόνον ἄκακοι ἔχωνται τη̃ς δικαιοσύνης οὐκ αἰσχυνθήσονται οἱ δὲ ἄφρονες τη̃ς ὕβρεως ὄντες ἐπιθυμηταί ἀσεβει̃ς γενόμενοι ἐμίσησαν αἴσθησιν (Ⅳ) - 22 ׃1 עד מתי פתים תאהבו פתי ולצים לצון חמדו להם וכסילים ישנאו דעת (Ⅴ)

convertimini ad correptionem meam./ En proferam vobis spiritum meum,/ et ostendam vobis verba mea./
- Tournez-vous pour écouter mes réprimandes! Voici, je répandrai sur vous mon esprit, Je vous ferez connaître mes paroles... (Ⅱ) - Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you. (Ⅲ) - καὶ ὑπεύθυνοι ἐγένοντο ἐλέγχοις ἰδοὺ προήσομαι ὑμι̃ν ἐμη̃ς πνοη̃ς ῥη̃σιν διδάξω δὲ ὑμα̃ς τὸν ἐμὸν λόγον (Ⅳ) - 23 ׃1 תשובו לתוכחתי הנה אביעה לכם רוחי אודיעה דברי אתכם (Ⅴ)

Quia vocavi, et renuistis ;/ extendi manum meam, et non fuit qui aspiceret :/
- Puisque j'appelle et que vous résistez, Puisque j'étends ma main et que personne n'y prend garde, (Ⅱ) - Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded; (Ⅲ) - ἐπειδὴ ἐκάλουν καὶ οὐχ ὑπηκούσατε καὶ ἐξέτεινον λόγους καὶ οὐ προσείχετε (Ⅳ) - 24 ׃1 יען קראתי ותמאנו נטיתי ידי ואין מקשיב (Ⅴ)

despexistis omne consilium meum,/ et increpationes meas neglexistis./
- Puisque vous rejetez tous mes conseils, Et que vous n'aimez pas mes réprimandes, (Ⅱ) - But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof: (Ⅲ) - ἀλλὰ ἀκύρους ἐποιει̃τε ἐμὰς βουλάς τοι̃ς δὲ ἐμοι̃ς ἐλέγχοις ἠπειθήσατε (Ⅳ) - 25 ׃1 ותפרעו כל עצתי ותוכחתי לא אביתם (Ⅴ)

Ego quoque in interitu vestro ridebo,/ et subsannabo cum vobis id quod timebatis advenerit./
- Moi aussi, je rirai quand vous serez dans le malheur, Je me moquerai quand la terreur vous saisira, (Ⅱ) - I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; (Ⅲ) - τοιγαρου̃ν κἀγὼ τη̨̃ ὑμετέρα̨ ἀπωλεία̨ ἐπιγελάσομαι καταχαρου̃μαι δέ ἡνίκα ἂν ἔρχηται ὑμι̃ν ὄλεθρος (Ⅳ) - 26 ׃1 גם אני באידכם אשחק אלעג בבא פחדכם (Ⅴ)

Cum irruerit repentina calamitas,/ et interitus quasi tempestas ingruerit ;/ quando venerit super vos tribulatio et angustia :/
- Quand la terreur vous saisira comme une tempête, Et que le malheur vous enveloppera comme un tourbillon, Quand la détresse et l'angoisse fondront sur vous. (Ⅱ) - When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you. (Ⅲ) - καὶ ὡς ἂν ἀφίκηται ὑμι̃ν ἄφνω θόρυβος ἡ δὲ καταστροφὴ ὁμοίως καταιγίδι παρη̨̃ καὶ ὅταν ἔρχηται ὑμι̃ν θλι̃ψις καὶ πολιορκία ἢ ὅταν ἔρχηται ὑμι̃ν ὄλεθρος (Ⅳ) - 27 ׃1 בבא *כשאוה **כשואה פחדכם ואידכם כסופה יאתה בבא עליכם צרה וצוקה (Ⅴ)

tunc invocabunt me, et non exaudiam ;/ mane consurgent, et non invenient me :/
- Alors ils m'appelleront, et je ne répondrai pas; Ils me chercheront, et ils ne me trouveront pas. (Ⅱ) - Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me: (Ⅲ) - ἔσται γὰρ ὅταν ἐπικαλέσησθέ με ἐγὼ δὲ οὐκ εἰσακούσομαι ὑμω̃ν ζητήσουσίν με κακοὶ καὶ οὐχ εὑρήσουσιν (Ⅳ) - 28 ׃1 אז יקראנני ולא אענה ישחרנני ולא ימצאנני (Ⅴ)

eo quod exosam habuerint disciplinam,/ et timorem Domini non susceperint,/
- Parce qu'ils ont haï la science, Et qu'ils n'ont pas choisi la crainte de l'Éternel, (Ⅱ) - For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD: (Ⅲ) - ἐμίσησαν γὰρ σοφίαν τὸν δὲ φόβον του̃ κυρίου οὐ προείλαντο (Ⅳ) - 29 ׃1 תחת כי שנאו דעת ויראת יהוה לא בחרו (Ⅴ)

nec acquieverint consilio meo,/ et detraxerint universæ correptioni meæ./
- Parce qu'ils n'ont point aimé mes conseils, Et qu'ils ont dédaigné toutes mes réprimandes, (Ⅱ) - They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. (Ⅲ) - οὐδὲ ἤθελον ἐμαι̃ς προσέχειν βουλαι̃ς ἐμυκτήριζον δὲ ἐμοὺς ἐλέγχους (Ⅳ) - 30 ׃1 לא אבו לעצתי נאצו כל תוכחתי (Ⅴ)

Comedent igitur fructus viæ suæ,/ suisque consiliis saturabuntur./
- Ils se nourriront du fruit de leur voie, Et ils se rassasieront de leurs propres conseils, (Ⅱ) - Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices. (Ⅲ) - τοιγαρου̃ν ἔδονται τη̃ς ἑαυτω̃ν ὁδου̃ τοὺς καρποὺς καὶ τη̃ς ἑαυτω̃ν ἀσεβείας πλησθήσονται (Ⅳ) - 31 ׃1 ויאכלו מפרי דרכם וממעצתיהם ישבעו (Ⅴ)

Aversio parvulorum interficiet eos,/ et prosperitas stultorum perdet illos./
- Car la résistance des stupides les tue, Et la sécurité des insensés les perd; (Ⅱ) - For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them. (Ⅲ) - ἀνθ' ὡ̃ν γὰρ ἠδίκουν νηπίους φονευθήσονται καὶ ἐξετασμὸς ἀσεβει̃ς ὀλει̃ (Ⅳ) - 32 ׃1 כי משובת פתים תהרגם ושלות כסילים תאבדם (Ⅴ)

Qui autem me audierit, absque terrore requiescet,/ et abundantia perfruetur, timore malorum sublato.]
- Mais celui qui m'écoute reposera avec assurance, Il vivra tranquille et sans craindre aucun mal. (Ⅱ) - But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil. (Ⅲ) - ὁ δὲ ἐμου̃ ἀκούων κατασκηνώσει ἐπ' ἐλπίδι καὶ ἡσυχάσει ἀφόβως ἀπὸ παντὸς κακου̃ (Ⅳ) - 33 ׃1 ושמע לי ישכן בטח ושאנן מפחד רעה פ (Ⅴ)
