- Alhamdu lillahi rabbi alAAalameena (Ⅰ) - In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. (Ⅱ) - Praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being, (Ⅲ) - بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ (Ⅳ) - Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds; (Ⅵ)

The sure Reality!
- Alhaqqatu (Ⅰ) - The Reality! (Ⅱ) - The Indubitable! (Ⅲ) - بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ الْحَاقَّةُ (Ⅳ) - The Sure Reality! (Ⅵ)

What is the sure Reality?
- Ma alhaqqatu (Ⅰ) - What is the Reality ? (Ⅱ) - What is the Indubitable? (Ⅲ) - مَا الْحَاقَّةُ (Ⅳ) - What is the Sure Reality? (Ⅵ)

And what would make you realize what the sure Reality is?
- Wama adraka ma alhaqqatu (Ⅰ) - Ah, what will convey unto thee what the reality is! (Ⅱ) - And what will teach thee what is the Indubitable? (Ⅲ) - وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْحَاقَّةُ (Ⅳ) - And what will make thee realise what the Sure Reality is? (Ⅵ)

Thamud and A´ad called the Stunning Calamity (the Day of Judgment) a lie.
- Kaththabat thamoodu waAAadun bialqariAAati (Ⅰ) - (The tribes of) Thamud and A'ad disbelieved in the judgment to come. (Ⅱ) - Thamood and Ad cried lies to the Clatterer. (Ⅲ) - كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ وَعَادٌ بِالْقَارِعَةِ (Ⅳ) - The Thamud and the ´Ad People (branded) as false the Stunning Calamity! (Ⅵ)

But the Thamud, they were destroyed by the Storm of thunder and lightening.
- Faamma thamoodu faohlikoo bialttaghiyati (Ⅰ) - As for Thamud, they were destroyed by the lightning. (Ⅱ) - As for Thamood, they were destroyed by the Screamer; (Ⅲ) - فَأَمَّا ثَمُودُ فَأُهْلِكُوا بِالطَّاغِيَةِ (Ⅳ) - But the Thamud,- they were destroyed by a terrible Storm of thunder and lightning! (Ⅵ)

And the A´ad, they were destroyed by a roaring, violent wind.
- Waamma AAadun faohlikoo bireehin sarsarin AAatiyatin (Ⅰ) - And as for A'ad, they were destroyed by a fierce roaring wind, (Ⅱ) - and as for Ad, they were destroyed by a wind clamorous, (Ⅲ) - وَأَمَّا عَادٌ فَأُهْلِكُوا بِرِيحٍ صَرْصَرٍ عَاتِيَةٍ (Ⅳ) - And the ´Ad, they were destroyed by a furious Wind, exceedingly violent; (Ⅵ)

69.

Which He made to prevail against them for seven nights and eight days unremittingly, so that you might have seen the people therein prostrate as if they were the trunks of hollow palms.
- Sakhkharaha AAalayhim sabAAa layalin wathamaniyata ayyamin husooman fatara alqawma feeha sarAAa kaannahum aAAjazu nakhlin khawiyatun (Ⅰ) - Which He imposed on them for seven long nights and eight long days so that thou mightest have seen men lying overthrown, as they were hollow trunks of palm- trees. (Ⅱ) - violent that He compelled against them seven nights and eight days, uninterruptedly, and thou mightest see the people laid prostrate in it as if they were the stumps of fallen down palm-trees. (Ⅲ) - سَخَّرَهَا عَلَيْهِمْ سَبْعَ لَيَالٍ وَثَمَانِيَةَ أَيَّامٍ حُسُومًا فَتَرَى الْقَوْمَ فِيهَا صَرْعَىٰ كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ خَاوِيَةٍ (Ⅳ) - He made it rage against them seven nights and eight days in succession: so that thou couldst see the (whole) people lying prostrate in its (path), as they had been roots of hollow palm-trees tumbled down! (Ⅵ)

69.

Do you then see any of them remaining?
- Fahal tara lahum min baqiyatin (Ⅰ) - Canst thou (O Muhammad) see any remnant of them ? (Ⅱ) - Now dost thou see any remnant of them? (Ⅲ) - فَهَلْ تَرَىٰ لَهُم مِّن بَاقِيَةٍ (Ⅳ) - Then seest thou any of them left surviving? (Ⅵ)

69.

And Pharaoh and those before him and the overthrown cities (Sodom and Gomorrah) continuously committed sins.
- Wajaa firAAawnu waman qablahu waalmutafikatu bialkhatiati (Ⅰ) - And Pharaoh and those before him, and the communities that were destroyed, brought error, (Ⅱ) - Pharaoh likewise, and those before him, and the Subverted Cities -- they committed error, (Ⅲ) - وَجَاءَ فِرْعَوْنُ وَمَن قَبْلَهُ وَالْمُؤْتَفِكَاتُ بِالْخَاطِئَةِ (Ⅳ) - And Pharaoh, and those before him, and the Cities Overthrown, committed habitual Sin. (Ⅵ)

|
69.

And they disobeyed the Messengers of their Lord, so He punished them with a severe punishment.
- FaAAasaw rasoola rabbihim faakhathahum akhthatan rabiyatan (Ⅰ) - And they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, therefor did He grip them with a tightening grip. (Ⅱ) - and they rebelled against the Messenger of their Lord, and He seized them with a surpassing grip. (Ⅲ) - فَعَصَوْا رَسُولَ رَبِّهِمْ فَأَخَذَهُمْ أَخْذَةً رَّابِيَةً (Ⅳ) - And disobeyed (each) the messenger of their Lord; so He punished them with an abundant Penalty. (Ⅵ)

69.

Surely We bore you (mankind) up in the Ark when the water rose high,
- Inna lamma tagha almao hamalnakum fee aljariyati (Ⅰ) - Lo! when the waters rose, We carried you upon the ship (Ⅱ) - Lo, when the waters rose, We bore you in the running ship (Ⅲ) - إِنَّا لَمَّا طَغَى الْمَاءُ حَمَلْنَاكُمْ فِي الْجَارِيَةِ (Ⅳ) - We, when the water (of Noah´s Flood) overflowed beyond its limits, carried you (mankind), in the floating (Ark), (Ⅵ)

69.

So that We may make it a reminder to you, and that the retaining ear might retain it (in memory).
- LinajAAalaha lakum tathkiratan wataAAiyaha othunun waAAiyatun (Ⅰ) - That We might make it a memorial for you, and that remembering ears (that heard the story) might remember. (Ⅱ) - that We might make it a reminder for you and for heeding ears to hold. (Ⅲ) - لِنَجْعَلَهَا لَكُمْ تَذْكِرَةً وَتَعِيَهَا أُذُنٌ وَاعِيَةٌ (Ⅳ) - That We might make it a Message unto you, and that ears (that should hear the tale and) retain its memory should bear its (lessons) in remembrance. (Ⅵ)

And when the trumpet is blown with a single blast,
- Faitha nufikha fee alssoori nafkhatun wahidatun (Ⅰ) - And when the trumpet shall sound one blast (Ⅱ) - So, when the Trumpet is blown with a single blast (Ⅲ) - فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِي الصُّورِ نَفْخَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ (Ⅳ) - Then, when one blast is sounded on the Trumpet, (Ⅵ)

69.

And the earth and the mountains are borne away and crushed with a single crushing.
- Wahumilati alardu waaljibalu fadukkata dakkatan wahidatan (Ⅰ) - And the earth with the mountains shall be lifted up and crushed with one crash, (Ⅱ) - and the earth and the mountains are lifted up and crushed with a single blow, (Ⅲ) - وَحُمِلَتِ الْأَرْضُ وَالْجِبَالُ فَدُكَّتَا دَكَّةً وَاحِدَةً (Ⅳ) - And the earth is moved, and its mountains, and they are crushed to powder at one stroke,- (Ⅵ)

|
69.

On that day shall the Great Event come to pass,
- Fayawmaithin waqaAAati alwaqiAAatu (Ⅰ) - Then, on that day will the Event befall. (Ⅱ) - then, on that day, the Terror shall come to pass, (Ⅲ) - فَيَوْمَئِذٍ وَقَعَتِ الْوَاقِعَةُ (Ⅳ) - On that Day shall the (Great) Event come to pass. (Ⅵ)

And the heaven shall cleave asunder, so that on that Day it shall be frail,
- Wainshaqqati alssamao fahiya yawmaithin wahiyatun (Ⅰ) - And the heaven will split asunder, for that day it will be frail. (Ⅱ) - and heaven shall be split, for upon that day it shall be very frail, (Ⅲ) - وَانشَقَّتِ السَّمَاءُ فَهِيَ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاهِيَةٌ (Ⅳ) - And the sky will be rent asunder, for it will that Day be flimsy, (Ⅵ)

69.

And the angels shall be on the sides thereof; and above them eight shall bear the Throne of their Lord that Day.
- Waalmalaku AAala arjaiha wayahmilu AAarsha rabbika fawqahum yawmaithin thamaniyatun (Ⅰ) - And the angels will be on the sides thereof, and eight will uphold the Throne of thy Lord that day, above them. (Ⅱ) - and the angels shall stand upon its borders, and upon that day eight shall carry above them the Throne of thy Lord. (Ⅲ) - وَالْمَلَكُ عَلَىٰ أَرْجَائِهَا ۚ وَيَحْمِلُ عَرْشَ رَبِّكَ فَوْقَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ ثَمَانِيَةٌ (Ⅳ) - And the angels will be on its sides, and eight will, that Day, bear the Throne of thy Lord above them. (Ⅵ)

|
|
69.

On that day you shall be exposed to view, no secret of yours shall remain hidden.
- Yawmaithin tuAAradoona la takhfa minkum khafiyatun (Ⅰ) - On that day ye will be exposed; not a secret of you will be hidden. (Ⅱ) - On that day you shall be exposed, not one secret of yours concealed. (Ⅲ) - يَوْمَئِذٍ تُعْرَضُونَ لَا تَخْفَىٰ مِنكُمْ خَافِيَةٌ (Ⅳ) - That Day shall ye be brought to Judgment: not an act of yours that ye hide will be hidden. (Ⅵ)

69.

Then as for him who is given his book in his right hand, he will say, "Here! Read my book:
- Faamma man ootiya kitabahu biyameenihi fayaqoolu haomu iqraoo kitabiyah (Ⅰ) - Then, as for him who is given his record in his right hand, he will say: Take, read my book! (Ⅱ) - Then as for him who is given his book in his right hand, he shall say, ´Here, take and read my book! (Ⅲ) - فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ بِيَمِينِهِ فَيَقُولُ هَاؤُمُ اقْرَءُوا كِتَابِيَهْ (Ⅳ) - Then he that will be given his Record in his right hand will say: "Ah here! Read ye my Record! (Ⅵ)

|
69.

"Surely I knew that I shall meet my account."
- Innee thanantu annee mulaqin hisabiyah (Ⅰ) - Surely I knew that I should have to meet my reckoning. (Ⅱ) - Certainly I thought that I should encounter my reckoning.´ (Ⅲ) - إِنِّي ظَنَنتُ أَنِّي مُلَاقٍ حِسَابِيَهْ (Ⅳ) - "I did really understand that my Account would (One Day) reach me!" (Ⅵ)

|
69.

So he shall be in a life of Bliss,
- Fahuwa fee AAeeshatin radiyatin (Ⅰ) - Then he will be in blissful state (Ⅱ) - So he shall be in a pleasing life (Ⅲ) - فَهُوَ فِي عِيشَةٍ رَّاضِيَةٍ (Ⅳ) - And he will be in a life of Bliss, (Ⅵ)

69.

In a lofty garden,
- Fee jannatin AAaliyatin (Ⅰ) - In a high garden (Ⅱ) - in a lofty Garden, (Ⅲ) - فِي جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ (Ⅳ) - In a Garden on high, (Ⅵ)

|
|
69.

The fruits of which are near at hand:
- Qutoofuha daniyatun (Ⅰ) - Whereof the clusters are in easy reach. (Ⅱ) - its clusters nigh to gather. (Ⅲ) - قُطُوفُهَا دَانِيَةٌ (Ⅳ) - The Fruits whereof (will hang in bunches) low and near. (Ⅵ)

|
69.

Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did beforehand in the days gone by.
- Kuloo waishraboo haneean bima aslaftum fee alayyami alkhaliyati (Ⅰ) - (And it will be said unto those therein): Eat and drink at ease for that which ye sent on before you in past days. (Ⅱ) - ´Eat and drink with wholesome appetite for that you did long ago, in the days gone by.´ (Ⅲ) - كُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا هَنِيئًا بِمَا أَسْلَفْتُمْ فِي الْأَيَّامِ الْخَالِيَةِ (Ⅳ) - "Eat ye and drink ye, with full satisfaction; because of the (good) that ye sent before you, in the days that are gone!" (Ⅵ)

69.

And as for him who is given his book in his left hand he shall say, "O would that my book had never been given me:
- Waamma man ootiya kitabahu bishimalihi fayaqoolu ya laytanee lam oota kitabiyah (Ⅰ) - But as for him who is given his record in his left hand, he will say: Oh, would that I had not been given my book (Ⅱ) - But as for him who is given his book in his left hand, he shall say, ´Would that I had not been given my book (Ⅲ) - وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ بِشِمَالِهِ فَيَقُولُ يَا لَيْتَنِي لَمْ أُوتَ كِتَابِيَهْ (Ⅳ) - And he that will be given his Record in his left hand, will say: "Ah! Would that my Record had not been given to me! (Ⅵ)

|
|
|
69.

"And I did not know how my account stood:
- Walam adri ma hisabiyah (Ⅰ) - And knew not what my reckoning! (Ⅱ) - and not known my reckoning! (Ⅲ) - وَلَمْ أَدْرِ مَا حِسَابِيَهْ (Ⅳ) - "And that I had never realised how my account (stood)! (Ⅵ)
|
|
|
|
|
69.

"O would that it (death) had made an end of me:
- Ya laytaha kanati alqadiyatu (Ⅰ) - Oh, would that it had been death! (Ⅱ) - Would it had been the end! (Ⅲ) - يَا لَيْتَهَا كَانَتِ الْقَاضِيَةَ (Ⅳ) - "Ah! Would that (Death) had made an end of me! (Ⅵ)

|
|
|
69.

"My wealth has availed me nothing:
- Ma aghna AAannee maliyah (Ⅰ) - My wealth hath not availed me, (Ⅱ) - My wealth has not availed me, (Ⅲ) - مَا أَغْنَىٰ عَنِّي مَالِيَهْ ۜ (Ⅳ) - "Of no profit to me has been my wealth! (Ⅵ)

|
|
69.

"My authority has perished away from me."
- Halaka AAannee sultaniyah (Ⅰ) - My power hath gone from me. (Ⅱ) - my authority is gone from me.´ (Ⅲ) - هَلَكَ عَنِّي سُلْطَانِيَهْ (Ⅳ) - "My power has perished from me!"... (Ⅵ)

69.

(The command is given) "Seize him, and chain him,
- Khuthoohu faghulloohu (Ⅰ) - (It will be said): Take him and fetter him (Ⅱ) - ´Take him, and fetter him, (Ⅲ) - خُذُوهُ فَغُلُّوهُ (Ⅳ) - (The stern command will say): "Seize ye him, and bind ye him, (Ⅵ)

|
|
69.

"Then cast him into the burning Fire,
- Thumma aljaheema salloohu (Ⅰ) - And then expose him to hell-fire (Ⅱ) - and then roast him in Hell, (Ⅲ) - ثُمَّ الْجَحِيمَ صَلُّوهُ (Ⅳ) - "And burn ye him in the Blazing Fire. (Ⅵ)

69.
32
"Then march him tied to a chain the length of which is seventy cubits.
- Thumma fee silsilatin tharAAuha sabAAoona thiraAAan faoslukoohu (Ⅰ) - And then insert him in a chain whereof the length is seventy cubits. (Ⅱ) - then in a chain of seventy cubits´ length insert him! (Ⅲ) - ثُمَّ فِي سِلْسِلَةٍ ذَرْعُهَا سَبْعُونَ ذِرَاعًا فَاسْلُكُوهُ (Ⅳ) - "Further, make him march in a chain, whereof the length is seventy cubits! (Ⅵ)

|
69.

"Surely he did not believe in Allah, the Great,
- Innahu kana la yuminu biAllahi alAAatheemi (Ⅰ) - Lo! He used not to believe in Allah the Tremendous, (Ⅱ) - Behold, he never believed in God the All-mighty, (Ⅲ) - إِنَّهُ كَانَ لَا يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ الْعَظِيمِ (Ⅳ) - "This was he that would not believe in Allah Most High. (Ⅵ)
|

|
69.

"Nor did he urge the feeding of the poor.
- Wala yahuddu AAala taAAami almiskeeni (Ⅰ) - And urged not on the feeding of the wretched. (Ⅱ) - and he never urged the feeding of the needy; (Ⅲ) - وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ الْمِسْكِينِ (Ⅳ) - "And would not encourage the feeding of the indigent! (Ⅵ)

|
|
69.

"Therefore he has not here today a true friend,
- Falaysa lahu alyawma hahuna hameemun (Ⅰ) - Therefor hath he no lover here this day, (Ⅱ) - therefore he today has not here one loyal friend, (Ⅲ) - فَلَيْسَ لَهُ الْيَوْمَ هَاهُنَا حَمِيمٌ (Ⅳ) - "So no friend hath he here this Day. (Ⅵ)

|
69.

"Nor any food except filth,
- Wala taAAamun illa min ghisleenin (Ⅰ) - Nor any food save filth (Ⅱ) - neither any food saving foul pus, (Ⅲ) - وَلَا طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِنْ غِسْلِينٍ (Ⅳ) - "Nor hath he any food except the corruption from the washing of wounds, (Ⅵ)
|
|
|
|
|
69.

"Which none but the wrongdoers eat."
- La yakuluhu illa alkhatioona (Ⅰ) - Which none but sinners eat. (Ⅱ) - that none excepting the sinners eat.´ (Ⅲ) - لَّا يَأْكُلُهُ إِلَّا الْخَاطِئُونَ (Ⅳ) - "Which none do eat but those in sin." (Ⅵ)

|
|
|
69.
38
But nay! I swear (or call to witness) by that which you see,
- Fala oqsimu bima tubsiroona (Ⅰ) - But nay! I swear by all that ye see (Ⅱ) - No! I swear by that you see (Ⅲ) - فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِمَا تُبْصِرُونَ (Ⅳ) - So I do call to witness what ye see, (Ⅵ)

|
|
|
69.

And that which you do not see.
- Wama la tubsiroona (Ⅰ) - And all that ye see not (Ⅱ) - and by that you do not see, (Ⅲ) - وَمَا لَا تُبْصِرُونَ (Ⅳ) - And what ye see not, (Ⅵ)
|
|
|
|
|
69.

Most surely, it is the Word brought by an honoured Messenger,
- Innahu laqawlu rasoolin kareemin (Ⅰ) - That it is indeed the speech of an illustrious messenger. (Ⅱ) - it is the speech of a noble Messenger. (Ⅲ) - إِنَّهُ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٍ كَرِيمٍ (Ⅳ) - That this is verily the word of an honoured messenger; (Ⅵ)

|
69.

And it is not the word of a poet; little is it that you believe;
- Wama huwa biqawli shaAAirin qaleelan ma tuminoona (Ⅰ) - It is not poet's speech - little is it that ye believe! (Ⅱ) - It is not the speech of a poet (little do you believe) (Ⅲ) - وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَاعِرٍ ۚ قَلِيلًا مَّا تُؤْمِنُونَ (Ⅳ) - It is not the word of a poet: little it is ye believe! (Ⅵ)

69.

Nor the word of a soothsayer; little is it that you mind.
- Wala biqawli kahinin qaleelan ma tathakkaroona (Ⅰ) - Nor diviner's speech - little is it that ye remember! (Ⅱ) - nor the speech of a soothsayer (little do you remember). (Ⅲ) - وَلَا بِقَوْلِ كَاهِنٍ ۚ قَلِيلًا مَّا تَذَكَّرُونَ (Ⅳ) - Nor is it the word of a soothsayer: little admonition it is ye receive. (Ⅵ)

It is a revelation from the Lord of the worlds.
- Tanzeelun min rabbi alAAalameena (Ⅰ) - It is a revelation from the Lord of the Worlds. (Ⅱ) - A sending down from the Lord of all Being. (Ⅲ) - تَنزِيلٌ مِّن رَّبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ (Ⅳ) - (This is) a Message sent down from the Lord of the Worlds. (Ⅵ)

69.

And if he had fabricated against Us some of the sayings,
- Walaw taqawwala AAalayna baAAda alaqaweeli (Ⅰ) - And if he had invented false sayings concerning Us, (Ⅱ) - Had he invented against Us any sayings, (Ⅲ) - وَلَوْ تَقَوَّلَ عَلَيْنَا بَعْضَ الْأَقَاوِيلِ (Ⅳ) - And if the messenger were to invent any sayings in Our name, (Ⅵ)

|
|
69.

We would certainly have seized him by the right hand,
- Laakhathna minhu bialyameeni (Ⅰ) - We assuredly had taken him by the right hand (Ⅱ) - We would have seized him by the right hand, (Ⅲ) - لَأَخَذْنَا مِنْهُ بِالْيَمِينِ (Ⅳ) - We should certainly seize him by his right hand, (Ⅵ)
|
|
|
|
|
69.
46
Then We would certainly have severed his life-artery.
- Thumma laqataAAna minhu alwateena (Ⅰ) - And then severed his life-artery, (Ⅱ) - then We would surely have cut his life-vein (Ⅲ) - ثُمَّ لَقَطَعْنَا مِنْهُ الْوَتِينَ (Ⅳ) - And We should certainly then cut off the artery of his heart: (Ⅵ)
|

|
|
69.

And not one of you could have withheld Us from him.
- Fama minkum min ahadin AAanhu hajizeena (Ⅰ) - And not one of you could have held Us off from him. (Ⅱ) - and not one of you could have defended him. (Ⅲ) - فَمَا مِنكُم مِّنْ أَحَدٍ عَنْهُ حَاجِزِينَ (Ⅳ) - Nor could any of you withhold him (from Our wrath). (Ⅵ)
|

|
69.

And verily, it is a reminder for those who guard against evil.
- Wainnahu latathkiratun lilmuttaqeena (Ⅰ) - And lo! it is a warrant unto those who ward off (evil). (Ⅱ) - Surely it is a Reminder to the godfearing; (Ⅲ) - وَإِنَّهُ لَتَذْكِرَةٌ لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ (Ⅳ) - But verily this is a Message for the Allah-fearing. (Ⅵ)

And verily, We know that some of you are rejecters.
- Wainna lanaAAlamu anna minkum mukaththibeena (Ⅰ) - And lo! We know that some among you will deny (it). (Ⅱ) - but We know that some of you will cry lies. (Ⅲ) - وَإِنَّا لَنَعْلَمُ أَنَّ مِنكُم مُّكَذِّبِينَ (Ⅳ) - And We certainly know that there are amongst you those that reject (it). (Ⅵ)
